great service, good food, \\great gem out in the country
My husband and I visited Chestnut Mountain for the weekend. The food was decent but the service wasn't anything to write home about. Our server didn't mention any specials to us after we heard her explain them to each table around us and brought us a completely different bottle of wine from what we ordered. Additionally, we ordered the bruschetta, which has a TON of olives (?) in it. Granted, we didn't read the menu description and we just ordered the appetizer, not thinking that olives would be in the bruschetta. After it came out loaded with olives, we needed to send it back. It took the server over twenty minutes to see that we hadn't touched our food. She was a bit salty about it but we apologized for our oversight. We look forward to coming back to Chestnut Mtn but will be cautious about eating here again.
This was a great end to a day of skiing. The food was delicious; a little on the expensive side but worth it!
They were closed when we arrived for our 5:30 dinner reservation on xmas night we made thru open table. disappointed but luckily the bar next door was open and we were able to eat.
We had a great experience. The only thing we would suggest is allowing guests on patio to order from inside menu. Sunset menu is limited for the dining outdoors.
Te View was good. The service and the Food lacked. I will say it was a Tuesday night in the middle of September but the server did not know the vegetable or the soup for the day. The Tenderloin steak that was the highest price item on the menu really lacked any flavor. The steak was cooked well but had no flavor. My Wife's pasta was very good but if the service and rest of the food would have been better a better review would have been in order.
This restaurant has amazing views of the Mississippi River! The food is very good. Service was pretty good, our waiter was rather shaky. Prices were a little high but typical for a resort. The atmosphere and views were worth it!
Overall very good, but the scallops were too small.
A delcious meal overlooking the ski hills and the Mississippi. Gorgous sunsets.
Upon our arrival, the first thing our server told us was that she was unable to split checks for parties bigger than 8. Since we were a party of ten ladies out for a bachelorette celebration, it would have been good to know this when the reservation was made. Our server continued to be rude and unfriendly. From drinks to entrees to dessert to checks, she auctioned off every single item (Who had...?). Our first batch of bread was delicious and warm and when we asked for seconds, we received cold, hard, wheat rolls that were nothing like the original baguettes and garlic rolls. Three of us ordered the prime rib special. It was cold and gray. Our server took the steaks to the kitchen and nuked them and still charged us full price (note the manager never stopped by to check on us despite the food issues). Midway through dinner, a server tried to mount an LED light pole into the middle of the table while rudely leaning over the diners without a single "excuse me." Additionally, the staff made patrons move so they could take down the sun umbrellas. Galena is such a lovely town and the owners of the shops are always so kind and welcoming. I was shocked at how terrible our service and food was for such a charming town.
We were on vacation in Galena and wanted a view of the sunset over the Mississippi River. This place is beautiful! This is a ski resort that is also open in the summer. There is a zip line and Alpine sled rides for the adventurous! The patio overlooks the Mississsippi and the sunset is gorgeous. There is also indoor dining. The scallops were perfect, the minestrone was done well, and the fresh bread and butter were welcome. Prices a little above mid point but well worth the view and service was very good. Worth the drive out of Galena to the river.
This restaurant at Chestnut mountain is good for a great view of the Galena countryside but the food is mediocre. There are tables outside overlooking the Mississippi river & the surrounding hills which provides an awesome view. However, the food was nothing special & expensive. You are paying for the view. The service was good.
The food was cold and overcooked. Portions were excessively big and the waiter failed to inform us when asked.
We have eaten at the Sunset Grille multiple times before and have always enjoyed the experience. This time, however, some of the other people there (who were customers who got food at the bar and tried to come out and sit at a reserved table that they didn't make reservations for) whose conversation topics and noise were extremely off puting. They caused us to have to eat quickly and leave. This time and the one entre we had was not good at all and the filet (ordered cooked to no more than medium) came out medium well toward well done. Its flavor was also not as good as I expected. The menu had also changed since the last time we were there and not for the better. Very disappointing experience for us this time. May try again sometime but not for a while.
We definitely had enough food for another couple meals. The food portions were huge.
Wait staff was very inattentive. Two meals were not very good. One over cooked - One was not what was ordered. Yes both were removed from bill but too little to late We were not offered dessert. Excuses were that there was only two wait staff.. I counted 4 inside tables...
Unbeatable views of the Mississippi River from the outdoor patio of the restaurant. Food and service were both great the night we visited, which was pretty busy. We shared a few starters - the Garlic Herb Shrimp and Caprese Salad - and I had the Chicken Piccata for my entree. It wasn't a traditional Piccata, as the chicken breast was thicker than you'd find in an Italian restaurant - but the chef's take on it was very tasty. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. Overall, a perfect way to spend a summer evening!
didn't have our open table reservation when we arrived. the tuna and sides were excellent.
Food is average at best and the service was terrible. The only reason for two stars was the view from the outside deck table.
The food was mediocre, service was barely acceptable, but the scenery was outstanding. Waiter was not very attentive.
Absolutely loved the Chicken Caesar Salad, great flavor. My husband had the New York Strip and it was cooked to perfection! I would have liked to see a few more menu options but was very pleased with what I ended up with.
Easter. Never again. Staff and crew completely overwhelmed. The lines for the single queue buffet ranged from 30 to 1 hour from sitting. No menu options.
Reservations were wide open… That is not the problem…
This staff needs to learn that on the few major occasions ( like Easter!!) there needs to be multiple -- just 2 - queues to the buffet. Just bring in additional warming apparatus which will alleviate the "one line only" conundrum which resulted in … By example… One person who could not determine what he or she might want for an omelette or another option… which effectively stop the entire line of 50 people or perhaps 75 at 1230.
Management staff… Please feel free to contact me… Actually I had a masters degree that included queuing (lines!!!)
We walked out… Many others did as well… I had a handicapped person… It was embarrassing and the Chestnut Mountain staff must be commended on their fine offerings… But they need to learn how to serve people when the issues are not in the usual manner…
It wasn't not even open when we went. We made our reservation on here, and it didn't say it wouldn't be open. We were dressed up and had to go to the sports bar next door. We're pretty disappointed.
Was better first time - food is good but service our second night was poor
Thank you so much for providing our family with a wonderful dinner experience to close out our holiday ski weekend. We look forward to our "closing" dinner at Sunset Grille and Maureen serving us every year. Again an enjoyable and memorable dining experience for us all! Thank you Maureen for your excellent care of us! See you next year
The food is good.... not great. The view over the Mississipi River is why I go there.
The food portions were way small then I thought they would be for the price. 2 out of the 3 items on my plate were cold
You get the bar menu from the restaurant next door for lunch
Our only problem is that it was cold and too brightly lit, we did ask for more heat and lower lighting and they obliged.
Food was good. View at sunset was spectacular. Very enjoyable evening.
