Sunset Grille - Chestnut Mountain
Amazing service and excellent food! There weren't many people staying at the hotel at the time but we were treated wonderfully and enjoyed 5 star dining.
Read about the beautiful views from Chestnut Mountain and since we enjoy dining outside, thought we would try it. The view was really pretty, but after that, not the best experience. Service was fairly slow, 20 minutes before even a drink order was offered. They were very busy, but the rest of the evening went about the same. I personally did not care for my strip steak, but my wife enjoyed the prime rib. Normally I enjoy lingering a little while after dinner, but here, I was anxious to leave.
Outstanding experience on the deck outside. Food was very good, service was excellent, weather was beautiful to watch the sunset.
The steak I ordered was 99% fat. There was no meat to eat and sadly enough this was their special for the night. The cocktails were awful as well. The resort has so much potential, but the restaurant could very well ruin their reputation. We stayed in a B&B off of main street and drove out that way just for dinner. I'm not a very picky eater nor do I tend to leave reviews, but I thought this was a very disappointing experience.
I waited 2.5 hours and I did not receive the order but the bill for the order not provided.
Hostess did not know that we had reserved "standard" table (compared to outdoor). Not sure why but thought I'd point it out. Food and drink were quite good. Price reasonable. Lovely view. Will definitely return.
A beautiful location for watching the sunset over the Mississippi. Good bruschetta. The Walnut Encrusted Walleye is great, a big portion. Prices are a bit high but maybe you’re paying for the view.
My husband and I went there for an early dinner. There weren’t too many people there at that time yet. The appetizers were good. We got spinach artichoke dip and walleye strips. For the main course I got the Sunset Grill salad and I felt it had a weird flavor to it (I guess it was the vinaigrette that came with it) that I didn’t really enjoy, and a side of horseradish mashed potatoes. My husband got a steak that was over cooked, but he said it still tasted good. The views/ambiance was great though.
Host Taylor was amazing!!!
We had a great time at Sunset Grille at Chestnut Mountain. The food and service were excellent and the beautiful view of the river was even better!
Steak should have had more flavoring. Potatoes and green beans were wonderful. Staff seemed to be running around rather than having a section. The absolute best part...and a must see...is their view!!!!
We went to Sunset Grill with a group of friends, it was a bit of a drive for us and some were hesitant. Once we got there everyone agreed the sunset was beautiful, service was great and the food was amazing. There wasn’t a bad review from a group of 7. Thank you Sunset Grill for exceeding our expectations.
Beautiful view. We had dinner at sunset and it was great! Dinner options are a little limited. Overall food was good. We had a wonderful day!
Everything was great, EXCEPT my wife's steak. She ordered medium well, with almost no pink. It came extremely rare. And her baked potato came dry, with no butter. She sent the steak back, and our server brought her some butter. The steak came back again, rare! Mostly pink! She didn't bother to send it back again. Our hostess, our server, the view, all fantastic. Our cook, not do much. My Salmon, however, was delicious.
The food was alright but the service was very slow. I think our waiter was one of the only servers so he had his hands full.
We were in Galena for the day and looked on Open Table for restaurants and were thrilled to see the mountain top/sunset option of Sunset Grille. They didn’t disappoint. We sat outside on the patio and had a lovely view of the sunset with a delicious meal and good wine. I had the salmon and my husband had the Sea Bass. We were both very satisfied. The service was great, too. No complaints.
We enjoyed the food and the view was lovely! Everything was delicious!
The food, all of it, was outstanding. Grilled walleye, baked pork chop, green beans crisp and unexpected. Go for the food and the scrnery is a bonus
Excellent Martinis, shaken table side. Very good side salad. Hubs had Pork T-Bone & green beans, I had Pecan Crusted Walleye. I am following Keto diet. The waitperson checked & said there was no flour, only pecans. A recent Dubuque newspaper article on the reception area wall said that it had flour, pecan, & panko. Nevertheless, it was a large serving & very tasty. A few nights earlier in the week, we had the Grouper & the Chilean Sea Bass. Very fresh & cooked well. Landing to return soon for Martinis & Sunset on the outdoor patio. A great spot to take friends & family visiting the Galena area.
My wife and I dined early so we could go for a walk on some of the beautiful trails at the resort. Our meals were excellent. I ordered the pork chop special and requested it to be slightly pink in the middle. It was perfect. The fresh green bean side dish was cooked to perfection as well. We do not dine out a lot, but this is one of our favorite locations.
Lingered over cocktails on the outside deck.
Surprisingly good selection of fish. Cooked well with fresh vegetables.
We sat outside and enjoyed the food and view. My steak was amazing melt in your mouth filet.
The view was lovely the food mediocre at best.
Good food, good service, nice view!
Great service! Large portions so we were able to share a meal and a salad with no extra plate cost. Walnut crusted walleye was superb!
We had to wait a few minutes at the hostess stand before anyone approached us to be seated. Once seated we had to wait almost 15 minutes for anyone to even take our drink order. The hostess came over and apologized for the wait and said it was because they were busy but there were about 10 open tables in the tiny restaurant, so I’m not sure how long we would have waited had the place actually been full. The salad was fine, and my chicken fusilli pasta was good, but my fiancé got the New York strip and it was absolutely terrible quality for how much they are charging. You could go to a high quality steakhouse for that price. It was fatty and had very little flavor. The view of the sunset was the best part by far. It really was a beautiful view. Overall, we wouldn’t go back but the view made the night enjoyable still.
Very nice selection and delicious Mother's Day Brunch !
The service/servers were good, dinner came with salad of mixed greens but came out mostly spinach and wilted but waitress took back and brought me a fresh plate of iceburg which i requested w tomatoes and cucumbers. White wine sauce, shrimp, broccoli and potatoe were great BUT filets mignons where tender but bland and cooked to med-well not to medium as ordered.
Was great celebrating New Years if you are A skier and staying in at chestnut mountains resort or nearby. Great value, decent food, great view of slopes and mountain top. Service is very slow though. Overall, our group had fun
Asked for a table close to the window however, we were seated right next to the service/bar area when there were other (more desirable) tables available.
Took a long time for our server to stop by our table. They weren't particularly busy however, we waiting longer than we should have for her to greet us.
We enjoyed the food.
Excellent service. We were seated quickly and our meal came out quickly. The food was great. Beautiful view
Awesome service and great location. We will be back. Worth the drive.
Not sure what the point of selecting Birthday as an occasion and mentioning my wife’s dietary restrictions if no one knows anything or does anything.
It was our 29th wedding anniversary and I asked for a table with a view. Wow....we got a perfect table and the sunset was beautiful!!
The service was excellent, the food was great, the scenic setting outstanding and the sunset spectactular.
Menue both limited and medicore in execution. Soup came before appetizer without apology - appatizer came while we were still eating soup - we told wait staff to hold the main course but it came anyway while we were half way through appatizer - Bad show. We won't be back.
I made a 4:30 pm reservation on Open Table and arrived to be told they didn't open until 5:00 pm. So we waited. The service was okay as was the food. The view of the Mississippi River was delightful. My biggest complaint would be the music coming from the speakers. I could have done without that. Overall, the view saved the date!
One of the best anniversary dinner celebrations we have had in Galena. Food and ambience were great!
This was our second anniversary at Sunset Grille. We JUST enjoy the view of the setting sun from the outdoor restaurant. Plenty of great entree choice sfor non-vegetarians. Need some vegetarian options.
We arrived for our reservation and were seated immediately. The menu was sparse but we were able to also order off of the Summits menu for more selection. The food was mediocre but the ambiance was great. Although this was a Saturday night we were one of 4 occupied tables in the restaurant.
