Sunset Grille - Chestnut Mountain

Went for our 10 year anniversary. Made reservations 2 weeks prior. We were sat on the sidewalk outside where people were walking around us or within our bubble. Couldn’t even have a conversation without having some kid come running through us. Service was terrible, server never came back to check on us for drinks or see how our food was. She came to bring us our bill and we wanted dessert, that was a bad decision too. If you want frozen then thawed food for a good penny, then this is your place. Food was not good for how much we paid. The only good thing about this place was the fall colors on the trees. Super disappointed. I understand COVID has made things difficult, but the least they could’ve done is put us up on the patio overlook so we weren’t interrupted or felt like we were in the middle of chaos.

First time to the Galena area and this restaurant was well rated by "yelp." We decided to eat at the bar as the outside dining was uncomfortable due to the wind. So we are sports people and the bar was outstanding for anyone who wanted to watch sports. At least 6 TV's and big TV's. Unfortunately the bartend, I will cal "J", was the most unattentive server I have had. More interested in washing glasses, leaving the bar for whatever reason, my wife and I sat there for 20 minutes before we had to summon him to take an order. The "chips" came out cold, the "wedge salad" wasn't very good.....not much bacon and dressing. Never got a "how are things, folks?" Etc. First time in many years that we walked out with a $0 tip. And I usually tip 20-25%. Too bad. I think it is a nice place, but our experience was sub par at best.

We waited 30 minutes for our server to show. The manager did pay for our first drinks. But then the food came and neither of us enjoyed our meals. Food was cold and the brisket tasted like cold roast beef with a barbeque sauce that hadn't been stirred in hours.
The shrimp tacos were also cold and there was a mound of what tasted like parmesan cheese on top.

Walleye was perfect, catfish ok. Service excellent. Great view on Mississippi river from terrace. Highly recommended!

We visited Galena for the first time. You can imagine how many lunch options there are. I’m thrilled we came across this spot because we are avid skiers! The grounds were beautiful, the service was fantastic, the food was ok! Definitely go for the ambiance! We will be back in the winter!!

Went for bday dinner. Amazing views outside! Food was pretty good. Good wine prices. Cute bar indoors. Server was excellent. Just wish we would have made a little early reso to fully watch the sun set as the views are amazing!!

Go there for the view and service; don't expect much from the food.

We went about half an hour before sunset and the view was beautiful and peaceful.

Service was great - our waitress was attentive and informative, gave straight answers on what she liked from the menu. Tables were bussed frequently which was a plus not to have to look at dirty dishes.

The food - not so much. In their defense, I have heard that they are not serving their normal menu, but one from a lower level restaurant. If so, that makes sense. I ordered the ribs and they came covered - not nicely - in a ketchupy sauce and with fries for a side. Fries with ribs? Never seen that before in my life - didn't even get asked as an option for a different side, I made the mistake of assuming it came with a baked potato like every other time I have had ribs in my life. The fried avocado appetizer was interesting but more mushy than firm.

Unfortunately I didn't ask our waitress about the ribs - maybe she might have told me not to order them! :(

We went to watch the sunset and were not disappointed.

Fabulous end to our mini vaca. Gorgeous views. Lovely sunset looking over the Mississippi. Excellent food. Ended with a delicious chocolate martini. You won’t be disappointed

We love the Sunset Grille at Chestnut Mountain Resort. The outdoor seating overlooks the Mississippi River and provides long distance viewing of the River and Iowa. The food is excellent, especially the Walleye fingers served with a wasabi sauce. I would recommend this place for all persons if you get a chance to visit Galena.

Our food was very good. We sat outside and watched the sunset. It was a really nice dinner.

The food was good, steak was a little rare for medium good none the less. Will definitely come back again and tell my friends to check it out.

Sunset dinner was amazing

We love the Sunset Grille!!! The wait staff all took their mask wearing and cleanliness seriously during our visit. The cheese curds are the BEST in the area - and the Walleye strips??? OMG Best place ever - any time of the year.

Service and view were excellent. This restaurant was advertised as having fine dining. I did not check the menu and they only had 3 choices and then provided menu of their grill. I was expecting more selections and to include filet, lobster, etc

We had a very good experience! My Manhattan was ok, but the Burger was fantastic and the view was breathtaking!

A place with such a great view doesn’t really need to serve great food, but they do! Go there if you can!

The spectacular view of the Mississippi from the mountain top makes this a “must try” when visiting Galena. Our service was attentive and unobtrusive; the food was adequate but could use some punchier flavors. The drive up the mountain - and back down - was an experience in itself. Be there for sunset; it will be a memorable stop on your Galena trip plan.

Beautiful setting high over the Mississippi River, we sat on the outside patio, shaded by huge umbrellas. This is our second visit in three weeks. Went there for late lunch to meet friends. The Reuben is the best my hubby has ever tasted, I had a burger, friends had barbecue, all were delicious. This is a great place to dine, had some families eating as well, nice, casual, and kid-friendly too. Will be going there in the fall to view the changing leaves and enjoy the view of the Mississippi.

Food was meh at best. Server was amazing. Views were amazing. The bottle of wine helped you forget how bad the food was.

Great view, decent food.

My husband and I have been to the Sunset Grille several times before and we were looking forward to introducing friends from out of town to the food and the beautiful view. The evening didn’t start out well when the hostess told us to make sure that we reserved outdoor seating next time if we wanted outdoor seating. We actually had reserved outdoor seating and tried to tell her so but she was in too much of a hurry to listen to us. Fortunately our server was excellent and the meal was very good so the rest of the evening was enjoyable. The hostess just needs a little more polish when greeting customers.

The view overlooking the Mississippi is awesome. The service and food, are pretty good too.

We sat in the patio due to covid-19 and wanted to enjoy the outdoors. The staff decided to close all umbrellas providing shades due to some wind that was expected. Further in the afternoon the winds dissipated and was gone. The staff did not bother to open the umbrellas again to provide comfort from the strong and hot sun that day. The experience was ruined that day.

Great Day, Great view, Great table, Great food, a good time was had by all.

Good pizza and service. Large umbrellas were very helpful to keep customers cool.

One suggestion is to wipe dow.n the chairs and the tables, not just the table when guests leave.

We had dinner at Sunset Grill on a Saturday night. The service was fine. But the food was nothing to write home about. I had the same chicken pasta special. It was really flavorless. It really wasn’t worth the price they were charging for it. My husband had shrimp tacos which were also not very impressive there were like 4 tiny shrimp on 2 tortillas. I would not reccomended eating here. There are many other restaurants downtown that are worth paying 20$ for a plate.

Great Atmosphere and steak nachos were great. Very Clean.

Beautiful views of the river and lush greenery on the outside deck. The canopy of umbrellas kept us cool. Our salads were crisp and tasty. Enjoyable place to have lunch or dinner.

Food was good but not as good as last years NYE dinner

Disappointed that it was raining so we weren’t able to enjoy a sunset, but the view was spectacular! The food was hot and delicious.

Amazing service and excellent food! There weren't many people staying at the hotel at the time but we were treated wonderfully and enjoyed 5 star dining.
