Sunset Cove Ratings and Reviews
I imagine the restaurant might be best in summer when you can watch the sunset...regardless, the lighting was the most dismal I've ever seen in a restaurant- dim but pierced with bright white flood lights that made everything and everyone in the place look incredibly ghastly. Requesting to sit by the window, I thought we'd have a lovely view of the Tappanzee Bridge, but it's tinted (probably for sun in the summer time) so the bridge is barely visable. For the prices, the food was ok, but sadly my dining companion felt nauseated afterward and spent the rest of the evening in pain. Needless to say, I cannot recommend this place.
Clearly a local spot for group occasions - I think there were three birthdays there - noise level was really high but you get that with birthdays - not a place for a romantic dinner for two. We originally booked because it was listed as participating in Hudson Valley Restaurant Week on Saturday night (not all restaurants did). We were surprised when our server said there was not Restaurant Week menu for that night (?!) We decided to stay nonetheless- food and service were good but the noise level was unexpected
I made this reservation through open table specifically because it did not indicate that Restaurant Week menu was unavailable for Saturday. It was not. I had to complain to the manager after they provided the restaurant week menu to a large party sitting across from me. The manager ultimately apologized and provided dessert without charge but it really soured the evening.
The brunch buffet was very good and very well prepared. The staff was helpful and friendly.
I would recommend the brunch this is the 3rd time I've been there, it is even better in the warm weather when you can sit outside
and see the great view of the new Tappan Zee bridge.
Enjoyed eating outdoors on the Hudson for brunch. The only drawback was the 'fly scene' surrounding the inside brunch buffet. Therefore, I only ate the foods that were cooked in front of me, i.e. omelets, pancakes. Unlimited Mimosa's were good, service friendly, good price point for brunch.
Very disappointed with the quality of the food served this evening. The branzino was over cooked and tasteless. The octopus appetizer was barely grilled and extremely salty. The whole experience was disappointing. Although we’ve ordered the same dishes before with a positive experience, I highly doubt we will go back any time soon. A total waste of money for sure
My husband and I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon to sit by the water and have dinner. The view is absolutely beautiful, a spectacular sight of the Hudson River and Tappan Zee Bridge. We ordered calamari, raw oysters and wine. My Savignon Blanc was $12/glass. My husbands Chianti was $13/glass. After chewing on rubber band-like calamari and the sauce it was served with was terrible. It was obvious why this place is not crowded at all. Odd for a beautiful day at a place with a view like this. We decided to not have dinner there. We won’t go back.
We went in the evening so did not enjoy the views. The food is pretty good and the service was fast. Starters special - mozzarella Cheese (3 balls v soft but meaty) with tomato and Balsamic vinegar and oil - Excellent
Flat bread – good
Side - Risotto w mushroom – very good
Main course Chicken Scarpariello – v good
Pasta special w shrimp and linguistine – not good
Our waiter Javier was great. We had a guest visiting from out of town and he thought Javier was exceptional. Our guest (as well as my wife and I) really enjoyed our dinner. And Pete the bartender was terrific as we had a drink at the bar before we left for the night.
We've been to Sunset Cove a handful Of times when visiting Tarrytown from NYC, but the food keeps getting better and better. We were a party of four and everyone loved their choice (especially one of our party, who is a particularly picky eater). She had the soft shell crab special and loved it! They probably could use a little attention to their management team who were a bit rough about the 5:00 dinner start time.
Overall the experience was mediocre at best. Tables were sticky and service was SLOW. We had reservations and were able to put our names down to sit outside and get a text when table was ready - which was great. It took a while to even place our order. Another party next to us was complaining of a similar issue. We had to ask another waiter to get our waitress to place drink order. The food all had a very fried flavor and no one came around to ask how it was or ask if we wanted another round of drinks or check how our food was. Overall, for the price - certainly not worth it. There are much better options on the water along the Hudson.
Our meal was a little disappointing. We were seated outside as requested. The seats had no cushions and were quite uncomfortable. With the new bridge construction, the restaurant is almost under the bridge now. The waitress appeared and quickly enumerated the specials. We had to ask her to repeat three times. I ordered the tuna wrap which sounded very interesting. She described the tuna as being like aeoli, with black beans. What arrived was a tuna salad sandwich on a black bean wrap with French fries- which was never mentioned. It wasn't even good. My husband's fajita chicken wrap was quite good. In hind site, I should have sent back my sandwich because she didn't describe it well and I didn't want a tuna salad sandwich. I doubt we'll ever go back.
We were pleasantly surprised, especially by the AMAZING VIEW, delicious food, and excellent service! The live band next door in the Tiki Bar was a bit loud and not our first choice in background music, but it definitely added to the festive and energetic atmosphere!
