Service was excellent. Choices for Vegans were limited, but the waitress let me choose sides, including collard greens, broccoli, carrots and sweet potatoes. What was labeled as “rice” turned out to be rice pilaf, which was a disappointment to me.
The appetizers were great, but the main course was simply divine! We chose the backed stuffed shrimp and grilled octopus with veggies! I'm still licking my fingers....
The Cafe has been remodeled and is bright and clean and friendly in ambiance. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious and healthy real Portuguese cuisine. A treasure in the steadily renewing East Cambridge.
Soup and salad were good. The main course was not super fresh- likely had been frozen. Very few patrons on a Friday night- dining area was almost empty.
Great food and service, plus live music on Saturday. Wonderful experience, we will go there again.
Must do for great Portuguese food. Had succulent seafood, great service and a lovely ambiance. Everything was delicious -- such great value. Highly recommended.
It continues to amaze me how under appreciated the Sunset is. Easily the best "bang for the buck" of the four Portuguese restaurants in the area. Large portions of delicious food accompanied by amazingly tasty and inexpensive Portuguese wine.
Great lunch food and service was fast served.
Great Portuguese food with generous servings of fresh food combined with good flavors.
Ambiance is quiet but we found easy parking off the street .
The restaurant located away from the buzz of Cambridge restaurant scene is really a find .
Based on the other recent reviews I was really hoping to like this place - sounded like it might be a nice neighborhoody hidden gem. Unfortunately what we had was very ok food and slow, fairly incompetent service. The only thing worse than the taste of the sausage appetizer was its presentation -a six inch by 3 inch slab of meat rolling around on a big plate. The cod was decent but the scallops were small and tasted like they were too old or had been frozen and thawed too many times. There were 2 waiters working their butts off on a fairly busy night while another guy just stood around. He seemed content to just keeping telling them someone else needed their attention (as if they didn't know) instead if actually pitching in to help himself.
There are lots of good restaurants around. I would recommend skipping this one.
The food was the best Portuguese food I ever experienced in Somerville (and there are a ton of restaurants in that neighborhood.) Our waiter was professional and clearly experienced. The atmosphere romantic but noticeably empty for a Friday night. I recommend the Portuguese codfish cakes and their signature Bife á Sunset dish.
My only criticism is that I asked for my extra food to be placed into a take away container and only 1/2 of it made it into the bag. The bill was close to $100 for 2 people with wine included. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.
