Have been here before and at times, usually lunch in the winter, the food can be superb, but lately have found the summer dinner fare to be very average if not below average, esp. the burger. Wouldn't recommend for a special occasion.
This is a place to come have a drink. The on-tap beer selection is fantastic. The service here is also good but the food is rather weak. Stay away from the gnocchi (they are essentially balls of mashed potatoes). The branzino whole fish is listed as de-boned but comes with more than its fair share of bones and is rather bland, though the accompanying vegetables are tasty. Bottomline: Come for the drinks, go some place else for food.
Had a great dinner, it was our first time there:) I had the Trout (which was awesome) both my wife and friend had the Salmon. We started off with a Cheese Plate and a Meat & Pickle Plate, which we great. We ended out meal with 3 different deserts. I will definitely be back! They have a great bar and wine list. We did bring our own wine this trip and the corkage fee is $15 per bottle.
I love everything about this place. I love the atmosphere and the rustic decor and of course the music and beverages. The servers are great, the location is awesome. The place is great, I have been here now about 4 times and I 'm getting a little bored with the menu. They just need to add more to the menu or change it once in a while. Very Heavy Salt in most things. Not good for a regular diet. But love it the ambiance.
Nice food... horrible forks. Was fighting the entire evening to pick up the food out of the plate. Nice way to lose weight I suppose
I would save your money and try some other place. We had a meal that should have been left frozen! Everything seems to be from the freezer. Menu is minimal. Saw several people walk in and wait for help, and walk out. I had the chicken that was a salt bomb! My other half had the frozen New York Strip steak, came out looking quite gray! Really, unless you are going in the have a beer or glass of wine, save your money and go somewhere else. I can't believe they are still around. Service has a lot to be desired. We will not come back. Also I don't know what that green swash of some kind of avocado was, but yuk! Come on we live where fresh should not be a problem.
The food is pretty good here but we were literally at the table for two hours. Cocktail, shared a salad, had our entrees which neither of us even finished. That is not food related. I say that only from the standpoint of how long it took us to eat, vs. how long we were there. And it took two hours. If you are not tired or in a hurry or bothered by the noise level then this place is good.
I travel frequently and dine out a lot. I've eaten here before and enjoyed it.I
I WOULDN'T DINE HERE AGAIN.
The food was all very salty and over buttered. Great ingredients poorly prepared.
The gnocchi contained 6 pieces of pasta ((shocking for a paste dish)., the vegetables were fantastic Ly fresh but has so much salt that the dish was nearly inedible.
The beef cheeks were tender flavorful IF you could find a bite that was not over sauces or salted.
Service was sad. It's downtown Walnut Creek in a great location the options are endless....they picked someone without an option and not really interested in service.
The drinks are great it obvious when the bar is full tables are open and the restaurant two doors down had a wait.
Great place. Great selection of mixed drinks and beer.
Tried the 3 course menu for WC restaurant week. Everything was delicious! Will return for lunch or dinner. Lively ambience.
Great dining experience for a friends night out. My friend with celiacs was able to be accomadated for with a full gf from apps to dessert. Nice wine, good list of beer. We ate out on the patio where there was live music and a nice fire pit.
Food was mediocre, ingredients were not fresh, messed up my order (forgot bacon on burger), kitchen sink odor upon entering, service so-so, over-priced for quality of food/service. Will not return nor recommend to friends.
Great food and wine list! The roasted octopus was so good. We will definitely be back!
We were celebrating my birthday and found the Caesar salad and fish and chips to be the best we've ever had. Maker's Mark Manhattans were fabulous. Service was wonderful and the manager comped our desserts since it was my birthday.
All in all, a great experience. We will go back soon.
Brunch was great. Food was superb and service great! No rush just relax eat and enjoy!
Always a fun atmosphere with a great wine selection and A+ appetizers. Only thing I'd say is that if you order a medium rare burger, you might get it well done:( but other than that, love this place.
The food was delicious. The ambiance was a bit odd- sort of a cross between a nice restaurant and a bar.
5 stars in my book.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Half of the restaurant is devoted to the bar area . The dining area is needlessly crowded due to the table and chair arrangements in the rear of the restaurant Food is very good but no espresso machine so just regular coffee is offered. Small plate mussels and octopus was superb and surprisingly generous for a small plate. The beef cheeks were melt in your mouth good.Service good. Ambiance in rear dining good
The food is very good here, for the most part (see below),and this time, we had a great server, Jamie, who was friendly and attentive. The room in the back was quiet, which was what we needed for a couple in our party who had hearing aids. Too bad their dynamite tomato soup and 1/2 grilled cheese sandwich was replaced with a bland cream bean soup with croutons. Coffee is delicious. Cocktails tend to be on the sweet side, so we chose wine this time.
Very poor service. Brought dishes in wrong order, said sliders were only available in bar area then served them at the table next to ours. Food was mediocre.
Even though we were seated in the back room, the server was attentive and took great care of us. The food was fantastic as my husband and I are vegan, yet there were plenty of options for us. the chef changes the menu depending on the season and that gives us reason to go back. The beer menu and bar area makes it a great stop on the way home from work if you just want to relax and sip a drink. We will be back!
My wife and I were celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary. We wanted to try a new place.
Sunol Ridge was a good place to try and the food was good. The appetizer with the fried green tomatoes were excellent. The main course, Pork & Steak were excellent and cook just right.
The dessert was not to our liking. But overall the experience was good. It was on Oscar night so it was a quiet perfect for us.
We came to Sunol Ridge with friends and had a good time. We were seated in the back, by the back door that has an exit to the outdoor area, and it was actually a good, quiet spot. The food was good. My wife had the Tandoori Chicken, I had the Beef Cheeks, our friends had the burger and Bacon Wrapped Filet. My froend and I had the local beers (Racoon & Sunol Ridge) beers. Good beer and good atmosphere. We will be back for Happy Hour!
Service was sub-par for a restaurant that had mediocre food and a pricey menu.
This was third or fourth time dining there pre/theatre. We were provided a nice table and a server who we really enjoyed the last time we dined there. The appetizers of Fried Green Tomatoes and the charcuterie of meats and cheeses were both very good and went well with our cocktail orders. Our dinners were very good everyone enjoyed their respective meals.
The desserts were good and the birthday dessert was a nice touch. Kevin is an excellent food server.
The restaurant was so loud we couldn't hear each other across the table. We finished our cocktails and decided to leave. Our waitress was extremely nice and understanding about it and all interactions with the staff was also very nice! Have eaten here before and the food is great--just not an ideal place for conversation!!
Get the pork belly! It is amazing. Scallops are also delicious! Food came very quickly.
Limited items on the menu but great choices nonetheless. We had the place to ourselves but maybe folks were scared off by the weather. Service is good and food selected was good.
Great Sunday brunch. Ahi Poke and Eggs Benedict were fantastic. Great service to go with it.
Very nice place. Not too crowded for early evening, pleasent lighting, and high ceiling makes it feel open. Our service was excellent. The wines list was reasonable. The mixed green salad was mostly kale. If we had read that on the menu, we may not have ordered it, but it was better than expected. The seafood dish was great, but the hamburger was undercooked from what was ordered. The desserts were delicious.
Wonderful and attentive service!
Not the foodie haven we thought it would be. The presentation was great, but it had no flavor.
For Valentine’s Day we booked a table that advertised a prix fixe four course menu at $75 per person with two choices per course. The first two courses rated a 5: ahi tune poke, gold beet and citrus salad, pan seared scallops and crispy snapper. We were delighted and were excited to continue this gourmet trail. But the two entrée choices failed to grab high marks. Braised beef cheek was a tasty comfort food a la French countryside ( 4 star) but not elegant enough for a Valentine’s meal. The chicken breast with black truffle was over-cooked, dry, and tasteless. The aroma of the truffle tickled our fancy but didn’t deliver on flavor. (2 star) We would have preferred a duck, lamb, or black cod as an entrée. Chicken is just too ordinary no matter how it is dressed to be on prix fixe carte du jour. We ordered a different dessert The coconut pineapple panna cotta was a winner (5 star), but the chocolate cake with strawberries was dry and tasteless. (1 star). Our waiter, Kevin, was terrific and I appreciated receiving a long stem rose upon check-in. The atmosphere in Sunol Ridge is young, hip, vibrant, and contemporary. This particular meal rates a 3.5 however because love is in the air, I’m giving it a 4. Next time the chef offers a prix fixe, I encourage him to present entrees that would include a fish and duck option. More stars would be the reward.
Busy day, Valentines Day. Service was a little slow. We saw our drinks sitting on the bar for several minutes. Food was presented well but the flavors and textures didn't do it for us. Perhaps a foodie could appreciate it. We took one bite of dessert and decided it was not for us. We should have gone to Flemings or Ruth's Chris, etc.
Loud ....Bartender doesn't put Martinis in martini glasses, put in a margarita glass..bar was very slow...
We came early and got a quiet place in the back room here. It can be done! The rest of the place became quite noisy as the evening elapsed, but it was fine in the back. Of course, there was no big game on! Cocktails are weak and too sweet, so we would recommend the beer or wine, especially many varieties of both on tap. The roasted tomato soup was excellent, as was the pork loin entree. Generous portions of vegetables were available as side dishes. The coffee was quite good, but it took forever to get a cup! Cheese plate for dessert was ample, but choices were not exceptional. Servers were very friendly, though could have been a bit more attentive., when we wanted coffee.
Nice looking place when first entering. Our table was in back by access to restroom. you don't feel part of the place at all, Waitress was friendly and helpful.
Fried green tomato appetizer was tasteless, as the white sauce provided.
Beer selection is outstanding and they are helpful in suggesting and offering 'sample' tastes, although too small to be effective.
Mixed green salad would have been very good but had way too much dressing. Salmon and mussel/octopus entrees were very good...generous portions and flavorful. Side of mashed potato was bland.
Mix of yellow and white lighting is puzzling...prefer warm yellow light to accent wood features.
Like the place and has potential if you're in the main area to appreciate being there.
First time at restaurant. Ambiance was great and service was excellent. Dining area was off the bar, so you could actually talk without competing with the vibrant crowd. Nice and roomy dining area. Decent wine list with plenty of wines on tap if you wanted to pair along with the meal.
The food itself was somewhat mixed. They accommodated our modification to the salad, and the ahi poke appetizer was fine. My wife ordered the "special" which was somewhat overcooked and dry. My meat in my entree didn't have a whole lot of flavor, but fortunately it had a nice sauce to compensate.
Price was fair. We will definitely go back.
Our appetizer was amazing. It was a tomato salad. My burger was well even though I asked for it to be medium. My boyfriend have the bacon crusted halibut but it was a little too fishy for my taste. Overall it was nice but the food was just okay.
