Sung Korean Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Had a very pleasant experience. Food and service were both very good. If possible, would recommend the bbq tables, as it adds to both the enjoyment and authenticity of the meal. Do allow plenty of time to dine if at the bbq, the meats will come out sequentially in order for the grill beds to be switched out.
One of our absolute favorite restaurants in Cincinnati, Sung offers a wide variety of Korean dishes paired superbly with some of other Asian style yummy stuff. An absolute delight in regards to the palate, it also brings a superb ambiance with a very nice and eclectic taste in the background music choice. Greatly recommended.
We enjoy having dinner at Sung before walking one block to the Shakespeare theater.
The bowls are always good and this time I tried the baby back ribs-so good, tender and sauce was fabulous. The pineapple parfait was nothing more than super sweet canned pineapple with Redi-whip topped with toasted coconut-not worth $8. My friend had the green tea ice cream and said it was a nice, not-to-sweet note to end the meal on.
The food at sung is great, we got 3-4 appetizers as our meal. The stone bowls are great too though. Our server wasn't very attentive and seemed fairly untrained in table service etiquette, I've served in fine dining before so I have a good perspective on that aspect of things. It's possible he was new.
Would go again but would request an alt. server.
I took a friend who had never eaten Korean before (I've eaten it too many times to count!), so I recommended dishes for him that were more familiar to Americans. We were not disappointed! The food was excellent as was the service and the atmosphere. We will return.
My husband and I really enjoy this restaurant and lucky that it's right around the corner from a local theater. We shared a wonderful traditional Korean roll - Gimbab and Dolsat Bibimbab - a sizzling bowl with rice, veggies, chili paste - mine with tofu and his with chicken. Definitely recommend
This was my third time at Sung and I would recommend it highly to anyone. Although at first I was sad that the floor seating was gone, I was happy to know it had been replaced with a grill on the table where you can cook your own food! So fun. So neat. Very clean. Service was excellent. Ambience was perfect. See you again soon!
I've been to nearly all the Korean restaurants in the Cincinnati and Dayton area and Sungs is perhaps the most pretentious and overpriced I've seen. $12 for a lunch box and charging extra for 3 ban-chan?! Okay so here's the nitty gritty on the ban-chan: Kim chee was over fermented- i.e. Super Old! We're 5 of us having lunch and only 4 pieces of the potatoe pieces- what?!.
For the meal itself, it was just 'okay' - I had the dae-gee bul-go-gi and the portion size of the rice and meat was fine. The taste also was also just okay - definitely not the best I've eaten but okay. There were 2 pieces of kim-bap that were extremely dry and 2 pieces of small mandu that was over fried.
The restaurant itself was very nice- decor and ambiance. And the waitress was helpful & friendly.
I had been to Sung many times in the past, and had always enjoyed it greatly. This time, while the service and the ambiance are still very good, the food was disappointing. My friend and I both found the portions to be dry and, because we do not enjoy very spicy food, we did not add much hot sauce. In the past this was not a problem; the food had always been flavorful and moist. This time the food was bland and dry. We do not plan to return.
Everything was wonderful. I got the hibiscus garden drink, which was very flavorful. We started with a Korean roll as an appetizer, which was a baked sushi roll. The stone bowl bimbap dish was huge. We split it between 2 people and still had some left over. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely put on our list to go back.
We visit Sung each Year during the Cincinnati Wine Festival. I always bring Guests and Sales Staff, and although there are many other choices in Cincinnati , Sung is always warm, inviting, and satisfying. The staff is friendly and efficient., always explain the food, assist with properly assembling the food on your plate even, and check on you often. I know no one will be disappointed in our group when I choose Sung Korean Bistro! The food adventurous will be most impressed! The portions are generous as well. No one will go away hungry! Beverage selections are also well matched to the fare.
Can't wait to go back again. :-)
I took my 16 year old daughter here for her birthday/ mom and daughter date night. This was the first time trying Korean cuisine for both of us and we loved it. The ambiance is very nice. Our waiter, Sean, was outstanding and very attentive. We were originally seated in the general dining area, which is lovely, but we requested to be relocated to the traditional seating area (floor seating) which was met without hesitation. This made our date night one that we will never forget!
The only thing I would suggest is that the background music be Korean. Not necessarily all in the traditional style, but also including some more modern style Korean music (ballad style).
Was able to reserve a table for Valentine's Day and had an excellent time. Was seated promptly at 5:30pm and our waitress was right over to bring us water and take our drink order. They had a special cocktail with raspberry sake and champaigne, topped off with a rose petal that was very good. We had visited before so the menu was familiar but I tried one of the rolls, Magma, with my normal entree and was very pleasantly surprised. An excellent dinner and excellent service. I highly recommend this place.
