Sundried Tomato American Bistro - San Juan Capistrano Ratings and Reviews
We were impressed during our initial outing at Sundried Tomato American Bistro, enhanced by the unique food and first-rate service. The occasion was a joint birthday celebration, which they acknowledged with complimentary brownie sundaes. Overall, a delightful culinary experience - we'll definitely return for an encore. So many yummy-sounding menu items, there are more we'd like to sample.
My food was very good. I had the calamari small plate and a small salad.
Calamari excellent, salad was missing some ingredients(hearts of palm).
Asked for dressing on side. Salad was dressed.
Food came before I got my drinks
Had to ask.several servers for water.
The server never came back to table while I was eating and brought check before I asked for it. No chance to.order coffee.
My friend arrived by train and we had only a few hours to dine and enjoy our conversation before she left. I walked around and looked at 5 different restaurants before I selected Sundried Tomato and made a reservation. Thomas C. was an excellent server, patient, answered all our questions and gave us time to study the menu. The food tasted fine but was a bit pricey.
We arrived when the restaurant opened and it was quiet but then a party of 8 sat next to us and the noise level was beyond normal. Completing our meal quickly, we walked to Starbucks and enjoyed our coffee there.
We decided to have an early New Year's Eve this year. We went to Dana Point Harbor right before dusk and watched the Christmas lights come on and then drove to Sun-dried Tomatoes in San Juan Capistrano for a 5:45pm reservation. Our table was ready and all four people in our party enjoyed the time we spent at the restaurant. We all loved our meal--even though it was a special (somewhat smaller menu), we all found something we liked. I ordered the lobster tail and it was delicious. We might do this again next year!
I suggested SunDried Tomatos to my girlfriend. I had not been there before but she had and she raved about it. Had a very romantic table near bar area. Wine was very good and waiter never pressured us to order. Was told Tomato Soup was outstanding and it was. We split lamb chops and a pasta dish. Very good. There 2 1/2 hours and time flew by. Great restaurant-don’t change a thing.
My young friend and I were on a writing journey from Los Angeles on Metrolink and we stopped in San Juan Capistrano for lunch before our return to L.A. We had reservations at 12:30 and were seated promptly with a choice of indoors our out. The hostess and servers were friendly and attentive to our needs, but did not hover over us. My friend had the lamb burger and I had a spinach salad and half chicken pesto sandwich. Both were exceptionally delicious--a definite cut above. The half portions of salad and sandwich were more than ample. I was concerned about the timiing, because we didn't have long before our return train, but service was excellent and we had time to stroll around Rios Street as well. I hope to come back with my husband for a romantic lunch. With the train station a five-minute walk away, it's the perfect date without the hassles of traffic!
Pleasant atmosphere with pretty decent brunch. The vanilla french toast was delicious and succulent however the grits from the blackened shrimp and grits was somewhat bland. Overall good dining setting. Setup is good for daytime and nighttime dining however nighttime dining may be a time for a more intimate setting. Great customer service. Thank you for a good dining experience.
Many folks find this spot to be great, in fact, my wife absolutely loves it. I am actually a very simple guy that would rather spend an evening at Selma's or Lucille's so my review probably isn't really fair to the restaurant but, just being an 'ol basic country boy, it is a bit out there. However, their Sunday Brunch is outstanding...the braised beef, goat cheese omelet is the best. Dinner, well, if you love it, you love it. If you don't, you probably only go because you need points with the wife.
When we arrived we were told we would have to sit outside in the cold since our reservation were made by OpenTable. Or we could wait 15-20 minutes for a table inside. Funny a table was available almost immediately. Then the fries and soup were cold. The waiter brought new fries and the soup was heated. Also one burger was ordered medium rare, but the wait staff said they were all the same. After we started eating we found the medium rare burger was given to the wrong person. Otherwise the food and service were good.
Being the leader of a family whose members are gluten-free and allergy-challenged, I'm always anxious about choosing the "right" restaurant. Nonetheless, I was greatly pleased with how satisfied my wife and daughter were with the outcome of our family's special holiday gathering. The servers were all well in tune with our dietary needs and catered individually to us all. Delighted with the appetizers as well as the entree selections, we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening together, including the specialty desserts. Decorated nicely for the holidays, we all loved the ambiance of the place. In addition, a round table helped to engage all five of us with one free-flowing conversation all evening long. We'd easily choose this location once again.
The traditional cream of tomato soup and the angus beef burger never disappoint. We both really enjoyed this comfort food meal. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She took time to make certain she had our order just right, with exactly the right accompaniments we requested.
My wife and I went for Thanksgiving Dinner which we very seldom do but this year we did not want to travel.
the Turkey Dinner exceeded our expectations by very very much!
This Dinner was so Good we were very impressed and when I received the check OMG it was so reasonable we were shocked!
Great Food, Great Service, Great Time !!!!!!!!!!!!

We have dined many times at Sundried Tomato Cafe and have enjoyed every experience. The service is excellent and a great variety of food options for every taste. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing and if you want to enjoy a game, they have two TV's in the bar area. Easy access from the train station and parking structure.
The food was good, but the service from the waiter and bus boys was terrible. The restaurant was only half full for a Friday nigh, so service wasn't poor due to a large crowd. It took 10 minutes before anyone greeted us at the table. After having to ask for water, bread and butter we finally got our dinner. At the end our waiter never came back to ask us about our meal or additional needs. We had planned on a dessert, but after waiting another 15 minutes decided to skip the dessert and go some where else for an after dinner treat!
Nice value menu for Monday night. Service was excellent but seemed a bit slower paced than usual--probably less staff on a Monday plus tourist season just ended. This remains one of my favorite places in town for contemporary American good with a flair and the quality has remained consistent over the many years we've eaten there.
