The pictures shown made me think this was a lovely rooftop restaurant. The truth is far from this. The wall around the restaurant is so high that you can only see the sky and not the city. Only one side with a few tables faces the Boston Garden and the rest of the views are nothing to see. The cost is extremely high for the quality of food. For $90 you can get an omelette, a slice of roast beef, and selections from chafing dishes that could be at any low rent chain hotel. A total rip-off. With tip $245 for two without drinks. Ridiculous.
My husband and I went to the Raj right after we married and we picked a beautiful Sunday. Granted, this is a pricey brunch however for a special occasion such as ours, it was worth it. You pay for the outstanding views, the good food, and the endless Rose. We had a great time!
Much better than last April. The last time we were there, the place was freezing, as the heat had failed. This time it was much better. The food selection while nice, has been "trimmed" considerably from the past. It used to be a "grand buffet". Now it has become very over priced. The service from Tony & crew has always been top notch & still is. They do have concern that the experience has been really "dumbed" down, which sadly, is true. Unlike most time we've been there the place was really quite empty. Last year, it was much better. Check past reviews & judge for yourself. Basically the price has climbed to about $218 for 2 people. This does include the gratuity, but still that's really quite steep for what you get. Our next try will be the Café Fleuri. We ate there years ago & remember it was excellent. The view from the Taj rooftop is outstanding, but the grandeur of the brunch seems to be waning. I'm hoping the "new" owners read these reviews. If you don't step it back up, you'll lose fans like us! We'll be back in early November for our final brunch for the season. We hope NOT to be disappointed.
90/pp for mediocre food. I was very unimpressed- go to the Taj restaurant on the ground floor which has great Indian food.
We were cheated! We ordered a bottle of wine. At the end of the meal a server pored the last of the bottle, not equal amounts and said that he would "top off" my glass. When the bill was provided we were charged for one brunch without the wine fee and the other with a charge for it. $20.00 for one quarter of a glass. Also, the bill included an 18% service charge! There is no mention of a required tip in the limited menu.
Bad service, so so food, and very bad gratuity policy.
We dine at the Taj about once a month. This's ends it.
The Sunday Brunch is the best! The food selection is vat and the quality is superb! The service is impeccable and the view is the best around!
We came for the view, but we were delighted with the wide selections of the buffet. We happened to be seated at the side of the restaurant overlooking Boston Commons, but noticed that the majority of the tables in the restaurant do not offer such nice view. Food wise, we especially enjoyed the raw bar and the roast beef from the carving table. One thing we were displeased about is the bill they gave us. It did not match the online pricing we saw advertising by the hotel in the Boston Magazine: $84 per adult with champagne, $74 without. We were charged with $89 per person even though we had turned down the drinks. The manager gave us a 12% discount after we complaint. I really think that they should post the price of the Sunday brunch on the hotel's website; nobody likes to be blindsided.

It was a beautiful brunch overlooking Boston. The food was delicious.
The service was lovely, and the food was good - but it's such AWFUL value that I cannot recommend this experience to others. The room is not very attractive, looks shabby and tired, and whilst the food selection was nice, nothing about it was worth $218 for two (that's without any alcohol; we declined the "free"'glass of wine that's included in the price, but had to pay for it anyway. It was not free when the brunch is $89 a head). Service is charged at 15.5% rather than left to the diner to add, and whilst I would not dream of not paying a gratuity, I'd rather add it myself (and I would have added 20% because the servers do a good job). I wish I had made myself eggs at home. It's such a shame because the Taj is a lovely hotel and I would recommend it highly, just not what feels like a very cynical take on brunch.
Pretty terrible place, rarely comment negatively. Complete waste of money for poor service and local cafeteria quality food. Would go elsewhere, amazing view though
So let's get the big thing out of the way. When you dine here, you're paying for the view and not much else, so unless you get a table with a view, the bulk of the value is lost. The food is good, but not great. For each item available, you'll find a nearby restaurant that does it much better, but none that do it 17 floors up with a view of the Boston Public Garden (if you're tall enough to see past the roof overhang). Dessert had macarons which were nice with subtle flavours, and cake pops, which you'll find better ones at Starbucks down the road.
Service was good, but one thing I did want to point out. I have a food allergy, and at other buffets (like Henrietta's Table), the server has come up to me and told me exactly what I could and could not eat. At the Taj all they did was put a note on my table about my allergy, presumably it was for me to read since no one was actually taking orders.
Glasses were a little dirty and they were a little slow at filling up our water. It was also extremely hot in there.
Valet service was quite confused or maybe they were upset that I paid with a credit card rather than cash.
First time I've given anything but a stellar review, but there were real problems. First off there was a parade that no one knew about. It probably made over half the brunch attendees an hour late or more. To the morons at city hall: When you do this, please post proper detour signs. Just blocking roads does not help. That part was NOT the fault of the Taj. That aside, here's the problems: The heat was down, so the place was freezing! The food was very good, but there were a few things I didn't care for. The desserts were cut back a lot. The setup was quite a bit different. We kind of liked the large buffet with all the great food & the beautiful floral displays. The smaller displays are nice, but just not the same. The price has gone up at least $10 from last year. We plan to attend in the summer, but if the experience doesn't improve, we'll start going to Café Fleurie or the Bristol Lounge.
Service was not up to it's normal flair. I understand that many of us were late due to the traffic mess, but to be clearing our table & others of table settings before we even went up to the buffet was not acceptable. The brunch goes to 2:30, They seemed to really be rushing everyone out the door. Personally, what I feel the Maître D should have done is offer a special discount for the next visit. Freezing your butt off was not exactly conducive to a good time.
We almost paid more than we had to!!! In open table's Taj's info says that the brunch is $76 per person (no alcohol), and special price for thanksgiving buffet and Christmas buffet ($95 per person). We were being charged the higher price even though we were not on any of those dates, for a 4 people party with gratuity and tax, that meant we were paying more that $100 extra! I asked the waiter about this and he talked to the manager, they ended up charging us the right price but I can only imagine how many people paid the wrong price just because they didn't ask or didn't realize!
Food was great, ambiance was nice although I thought the brunch was going to be on the upper floor as the pictures in Open Table suggested, but we didn't get the nice view, they had the brunch at the 2nd floor.
We had a reservation for 1pm, we were there in time but they had our table ready after 25 min waiting.
The cappuccino machine was broken but the waitress was nice enough to go to the bar a get us some.
Terrible. The food was below par. There was no ambiance. It was worse than eating in a one star restaurant. I cannot recommend this brunch to anyone.
Great view and service. Food was good although to be honest I'd hoped for more at the price point.
We were a party of 8 celebrating my daughter's 19th birthday. The selection of food was exceptional: raw bar, sushi, sashimi, omelets and typical breakfast foods/meats, carving station, Indian entrees, and outstanding salads and desserts. There was something for everyone, even the pickiest eater. The day was bright and clear and the views were amazing. The waitstaff brought over a special dessert for my daughter for her birthday and sang to her. The quality, preparation, and taste of each item were all amazing. We will be back for my birthday next!
As is usual, Brunch was outstanding. Nice to see them adding a few new items each time so there's variety. Only difference was a lot of unfamiliar wait staff. We know the hotel changed hands recently & feel that's the reason. There were a few familiar faces. I think they are rotating staff to different areas. That being said everyone was very familiar to the goings on & nothing was out of place. We plan to attend the last brunch of the season. Sometime late fall/early winter, the hotel(according to staff we know well)Will close for a top to bottom restoration. Hopefully they won't screw up the dining as they did at the Copley Fairmont. The Oak room became the Oak Long bar & it's definitely not our cup of tea. More tapas & chatting amongst patrons rather than the gourmet food it was known for.
Brunch at the Taj was beautiful because of the view, but the food was unremarkable. Most of the price is clearly for the location, which was worth it for its uniqueness.
On very hot day, two of four air-con units had failed. Even in Boston, impossible to get them fixed on Sunday. Also ours was a late (13:30) table for brunch and some hot options were either drying out or practically finished (or both).
That said, staff were all brilliant in spite of extreme heat (kitchen also had no a/c) and the vows were superb.
