Fabulous restaurant! We were a group of 4 and all of us LOVED this restaurant. We shared everything. Be sure to order the Chilean sea bass and the guacamole with pomegranate. Outstanding! We can’t wait to come back!!!!
Great service and wonderful food! Will definitely return!
Our server Juan was wonderful and took great care of us and gave us plenty of recommendations! The guitar player that played on Sunday was very loud and it was hard to hear our tables conversation but the food and everything was awesome!
Awesome food but portions pretty small
This was a fabulous place for a bachelorette party! When our party size increased, they were super accommodating even though it was a Saturday night. Food was amazing and not too pricey. All around great place!
This is one of the best restaurants in the Valley. Most people keep choosing the same items on a menu. I do too, but at Sumomaya I always add something new and it's always delicious!
My friend and I were visiting Scottsdale over a weekend and went to SumoMay 2x while we were there! It was amazing food and we even said we should fly in just for the day and take our husbands there! I can't recommend this place enough!
The energy was high, service was excellent, food delicious and savory! An unforgettable experience! 👍
Food is good but portion size is much too small for the price. The major negative is how insanely LOUD this place is. Do not plan to have casual conversation cause not going to happen. While I would surely return to try some other menu choices despite the price I won’t be returning because of the awful noise and overall loudness which leaves for an unpleasant unsatisfactory experience.
We went for restaurant week. We had a group of 5. One of us ordered from the restaurant week menu, the others from the regular menu. The food just wasn’t that good and very expensive. Our first round of cocktails was great, but the taste of the second round was not the same. The servers were bad. They repeatedly kept trying to take away food that we were clearly still working on, we orders the Filet mingnon and it was very grisly. Not impressed.
Why can't I park my own car? The only way to park is with the valet. The restaurant was less than half full yet they seated us in a cramped double next to a full and loud table of six. Why do that? can't the staff walk the extra 20 feet to another table. I should have asked to be moved when we were seated, but the waiter and staff were on top of us before we really noticed our surroundings. I don't expect to be seated right next to a full table when the rest of the restaurant is half empty! I had the Korean beef taco which was good but the Kimchee was just ok, Kimchee should have a kick this did not, so basically it was just cabbage in a sauce. Would I go back, yes, but warily, management needs someone that really knows what they are doing in the dining room, not just someone who looks young and hip, because the dining experience was just so, so.
Too noisy for us to visit with friends. The food is fantastic though. More of a hip scene than enjoyable dinner atmosphere.
Wife’s birthday but they didn’t do anything special for her
Just a great place with excellent food! Restaurant week let us enjoy so many new places! Thanks
The food was good, the sushi was quite exceptional , we enjoyed ourselves. Still we wouldn’t recommend going for the restaurant week menu as it’s only a culmination of the what seemed to be the least expensive items on the regular menu. Pretty much when compared to the regular menu it was no deal at all so we just ordered off the regular menu. We ended up feeling kinda duped into eating dinner out that evening as their restaurant week participation was the main draw. For those looking for a special experience for restaurant week I’d stay away. Yet, for other occasions such as an after work cocktail or dining out with a date or friends I would recommend it.
The food was amazing, but the service was lacking. We had made a reservation, and upon arrival, the hostesses seemed very confused about which party was which and who should sit where. Once we were seated, our first/main waitress was great about getting drinks out and food orders made, however, the food came out very staggered, the other wait staff we encountered weren't super friendly, and we had to work to get our waters refilled. All-in-all, though, I would recommend this place, and I would probably return simply for the delicious and unique menu.
Nothing special. Guacamole that sounded interesting was just a mediocre guacamole w dried fruit and pomegranates on top. Chips served with it were extremely salty. Empanada was not good at all and the pad Thai was fine, but no Asian Mexican fusion happening, just a lot of added chili peppers. No need to go. So many better restaurants to chose from. And I’m really not a pickyeater! Just like to find interesting menus and see them carried through. Missed.
I’ve been here countless of times and the food has always been good! Every time I’ve been here the service has been questionable. If you book a reservation make sure to request Erica as your server. Recently we had Erica as our server and we will be requesting her every time we go. She was very attentive to our table, we didn’t have to wait long for our drinks or food. Make sure you get the enchiladas!
This place was fun. 10 dollar bottomless drinks for brunch was nice. Food priced at $29 pretty much all you can eat. Cant quite mix everything they do together, but it was fun trying. Everything we tried was delicious. Very friendly and positive service. Sort of a Vegas type restaurant for its uniqueness and vibe. Would return for sure.
They were great and the people watching was beyond!
Fantastic experience! Food was delicious, uniquely prepared, and visually artistic! Yes, portions are on the small side, but the flavors are delicious! Our server, Erica, was genuinely helpful and sweet! The ambiance is Scottsdale hip - a bit loud, but that’s also due to a lot of people enjoying their dining experience.
Fun atmosphere with an active vibe with great food and service.
Most of the appetizers and side dishes were fairly bland... the bean dip hummus was probably one of my favorites but the rest really lacked flavors... the entree was on point thankfully and your mimosa seemed were tasty and I didn’t get a headache which was a plus...
Overall it was a good experience
We have been to Sumomaya several times in the past. What keeps us coming back is how creative and delicious the food is! It can be fairly loud in this restaurant, so not a great place if you need to carry on a conversation, but it’s very energetic and has a cool vibe. My only complaint this time involved being roundly ignored by the wait staff - so much so I had to ask if we had a waitress! She even waited on another table of high schoolers (poor choice for her earning potential!) before us, well tipping middle aged people... Once we got a different waitress to take our order, food appeared quickly and was as delicious as usual. Her service was very good and resulted in over a 20% tip. We almost mentioned the service problem to the manager who bussed our table, but he only asked how the kitchen did - no complaint there.
The food was much better than expected (I try not to believe the hype before I go). The service was also much better than one usually gets in a busy, popular place. The only downside was the noise. Much worse than I expected. DO NOT go here and expect to have a meaningful business meeting. DO NOT go here if you want a deep and serious conversation with your companion(s). If you want to break up with a partner, then by all means do it here during dinner… whatever unwelcome words that will be directed towards you, you will not hear.
Never received one of our sides. Other sides were served after our main course (served late). Food was pretty good but would have been much better if we received our sides and at the correct time.
This is my 2nd time back to back and every time I bring more friends! Josh our server was amazing and always willing to take care of my guest!
Great food, service and experience! We’ll be back!
I took a small group to celebrate my husband’s birthday. In advance, I redeemed 5000 Open Table points for a $25 gift certificate specifically for Sumomaya. However, when I tried to use the gift card the manager refused to accept it; she insisted they have “absolutely no way” to honor the $25 credit. Needless to say, this was an awkward, embarrassing, and frustrating experience on what was supposed to be a celebratory evening. We will not be returning to Sumomaya Scottsdale; for a mere $25, this restaurant has lost a number of good customers.
The food was great. The bartender was attentive and was there for anything i needed. The only drawback is i was in from out of town and told earlier in the day i would get to sit outside. I was looking forward to taking advantage of that before I can’t do that in chicago anymore. I arrived and was told they were able to move me inside. That is not what i wanted. They said they had big parties out there. Disappointing experience due to that. So i opted to sit at the bar. The bar crew was great but still upset my table was given away outside. We’ll see if i return on my next few trips this year
Expensive for small portions. Taste wasn’t anything special. Not bad but I wouldn’t go back. Service was good, venue is attractive.
We were lucky to be recommended and glad we went
Great atmosphere good food and service
We went Asian this time
Will try Mexican next but be interesting to mix
The Vietnam beef was FAB
Extremely noisy restaurant and very difficult to hear people at our table. Excellent service though and overall good value.
Excellent food, as always, very hip scene, great to watch a game!!
The food was SO good! Some friends and I were visiting Scottsdale and several people recommended the restaurant. We ordered multiple things - calamari, tacos, sushi, noodles, cocktails and dessert - and shared as suggested by the waiter and it was AMAZING. All of it! I wished I was a local and could return more frequently.
We went here based on a recommendation from a friend for a date night and it was excellent! The Mexican/Asian combo menu is so unique and we got to try a little from each. Everything we had tasted amazing. Definitely recommend!
Wife and i went for our anniversary, great service right from start to finish. Food was amazing! Would recommend for any occasion.
LOUD. Very, very LOUD. Did I say LOUD? Unless you want to scream at the server and whoever you’re dining with, skip it.
