Love the food though music is too loud. Because the seating is very much one big room it would be better to lower the music volume.
Presentation of food is great and the food is delish
Food came out way too slow. 1-2 shared plates every 20 minutes. Dinner dragged on. Business people want to get in and out of there. 1.5 hr tops for dinner.
Such a great spot to grab a fun dinner in the Scottsdale area. Amazing food, great ambiance.
we were visiting from out of town and found this spot. Great service, great food, really well paced, and good with food allergies. Highly recommend!
Fantastic... everything was absolutely delicious... love the environment. Chef is phenomenal. Service was excellent. 5 stars all the way around...
It’s good, but We don’t recommend sitting outside. One table wants the heater of the next wants it on. Not a great situation when it’s a bit chilly outside. Most of their seating is actually outdoors.
SumoMaya was such a treat! From the moment you walk in the door you know you are someplace special. We love restaurants that serve plates to share but particularly ones that serve creative dishes and SumoMaya went beyond all expectations! Can’t wait to go back.
When you go to Scottsdale do NOT miss SumoMaya... #1!
Although the food was good, I found the music a bit too loud, it was difficult to make conversation - not the ambience I was looking for in a Sunday brunch. The waitress going around to refill water spilled it twice enough to wet our feet. The spoons for dessert was dirty - one still had what looked like whipped cream. The waitresses bringing food to tables do not seem to know which tables they go to. Definitely not recommending this place.
Kinda pricy but my overall is still a 5. Our waitress was Excellent! Best mahi tacos ever and tableside Quacamoli ever!!!
ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES TO GO WHILE WE ARE IN ARIZONA, SERVICE WONDERFUL FOOD OUTSTANDING
Our server was good but somewhat robotic in his comments.
Very loud..terrible service
10 minutes to request water
We went while on vacation. Excellent food. Very busy but very fun. A little pricey but recommended.
Amazing food and drinks. The kids fried rice was the best I have ever tried. Rainbow ceviche was divine!!! Calamari was delicious! Highly recommend eating here!
Veronica our server was great! It is too loud to hear any conversation on table.
It was way too loud (music included) for our entire group. We love music, but not like that when trying to dine. It's a super loud restaurant in general. However, the food & service was good.
Great service and food!
Did not care for my ceviche. Too much liquid, not that much seafood.
Fun dinner outside on the patio. We split 5 dishes between three people and had a LOT of food. It’s really not as “Fusion” as I would have thought. But the dishes were all Good and were true to their respective country. I would go again! Pad Thai, asada quac, sushi rolls were spot on!
The ambience was comfortable. My preference was to sit outside. The noise level was a little too high. The ceviche was mouthwatering super flavorful. The coconut Curry soup was our favorite. Super spicy so be careful. The ginger fried rice with Sunnyside egg was exceptional. I’m going to try to make it at home.
Average food and our expectations were so much more given the interesting menu and Mexican-Asian fusion theme. You know when you walk in and see two very, very large TV screens, the food will be hit and miss. Service was excellent though.
We enjoyed everything we had! Such a great menu with interesting choices. Service was good. Lots of big tv’s to keep a eye on the game. Service was good & prompt.
Had a wonderful lunch there spring break 2017 so anxious to try it for dinner this year. Crazy busy, understaffed, food expensive and barely mediocre. Could not carry out even minimal conversation....actually left an ok tip because our waitress was drowning. Small plates were actually fortunate-we stopped ordering them and left!
Too noisy for us but otherwise a very good experience. They even called us to say we left a sweater behind. Glad we made reservations on Open Table so they woukd have our phone number and be able to let us know to come back for the sweater. Really interesting dishes with unique presentations. All food tasted GREAT!
Our server who was training another server was awful! Food was extremely spicy. Martini was $16 really!! This is Scottsdale not Manhattan or Ocean front dining.
One of our three diners enjoyed the seabass; the other two found the lobster dynamite and the rock shrimp dishes tasteless and uninspired. Our service was VERY slow.
The live music was ok and it felt as though our waitress was trying to rush us out but overall had decent service. The shareables were better than the entrees. Very unimpressed by pad Thai but loved the quac
Very little portions for high cost.. everything was small portion.. not worth the money do not waste your time
The chicken mole was one of my favorite dishes ever.. such complex flavors and a tremendous value for the money. I ALSO LOVED THE RAINBOW ceviche. The guacamole was outstanding but too much for two people. Like many i found the music way too clubby with loud bass track. Find some more modern music that you can eat to. Turn it up after ten if the crowd changes. The service deserved to be better for the quality of food. I still would go back next time. Lots left to try
Terrible experience. No one in our party of four will ever go here again. The food was ok, but portions are exceptionally small. The tacos, I get it, are appetizers, but they make most “street tacos” look huge. They should be called taco chips. The noise level is atrocious. Tables are squeezed together and the ambiance is frenetic at best. It was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long, long time. Never again. Ever.
Noisy, bustling, tables cramped, very loud. Food inconsistent. Guac was great, chips were great, squid was awash in sticky sweet goop, wings were ok, tacos were tiny and almost totally taste-free, seaweed salad was impressive and tasty, yellow-tail roll was bland and uninspired. Food appeared at random intervals. One beer was flat while the next was 1/3 head.
In a word, inconsistent. Not worth the high prices. Slightly annoying. Decor was trying for a vibe but falling short.
Had friends visiting from San Francisco. They loved the food and the vibe! Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu/food allergies!
Great food and good service. In town and would go back a second time on same trip. Don’t hesitate. Club music was loud on entry but fit atmosphere.
The food was excellent. I was with a group of seven and I was able to try a myriad of dishes. I have to say I was impressed. The thing that was most impressive was the Oaxaca Old Fashioned. The bartender who made this drink achieved perfection. I do have to say the service was pretty horrendous. Maybe because I was seated on the patio with my group. I noticed the servers inside seemed much more attentive.
The Bottomless Brunch is my favorite in town! The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is upbeat and fun. The mimosas are pretty awesome too!
I booked a noon reservation and we weren't seated until 12:30pm. They had a table at 12:15pm for us, but we were told it wasn't set completely. I asked since we had waited already, if a table on the patio was available. They said they were working on one for us. I had put on the reservation we were celebrating my mother's birthday, but no one had acknowledged her birthday until I specifically asked our server if they were able to do anything. Once we were seated we did have an enjoyable and delicious meal.
Four of us went on a Saturday night, on the very high recommendation of a friend. As soon as we walked in, we knew this would be a less-than-positive experience. The noise level - both of people talking in the open, hard-surfaced room, as well as the incessant bass of the music - was overwhelming. It was impossible to hear our server (who, despite the impossibility of anyone in that noisy environment describing the specials, was excellent). We even asked several times about the noise level, and different workers mentioned that they go home with a hoarse throat and ringing in their ears. (Anyone read: OSHA violations?) As a voice and hearing professional, I was extremely dismayed that these young people were subjected to such an inhospitable work environment.
That said, the food and Herculean effort made by our server were both fabulous. She recommended we come back on a week night or for lunch. Sadly, our out-of-town guests had already formed their opinions.
So - buyer beware. If you are coming for the “club” experience, where loud techno-rock overshadows any attempt at menu explanation, and where music is your desired focus, not food, then this is the place for you on a Friday and Saturday night. If you are looking for a fabulous and creative menu in an eatery in which you can converse with your dinner partner, this is absolutely not the place for you, particularly on a Friday or Saturday night.
Our dinner at SumoMaya was phenomenal from the creative culinary experience to our very attentive server named Victoria. We will be back..soon!
