Tapas was good
Great restaurant with wonderful food and amazing service. We really liked our waitress. She was knowledgeable, had recommendations that were spot on and rolled with the silly humor at our table. The only bad part was the air conditioning was out, so it was a little hot. We were glad to sit in the outer part of the restaurant as the bar area is a little loud, but fun ambiance that works for all.
This was an outstanding culinary experience! Hope when you go, Bart is your culinary guide. The place runs fast and like clock work
Favorite restaurant of all time! So many flavors and unique dishes .
Had a wonderful time!
The perfect margarita was spot on.
Had the guacamole app which always perfect, amazing fish tacos and skirt steak tacos.
The third drink was as good as the first!
A favorite place!
Sumomaya was recommended by our concierge. If you like Asian food and Mexican food you are going to love this place. Definitely has a cool and fun vibe with loud music and a fun atmosphere. We chose to sit on the enclosed patio as it was a little too loud to talk inside. The menu has a lot of options and there were too many choices for just two of us. I highly recommend going with at least 4-6 people or even a larger group. I feel like I would need at least 5 visits to try everything hat sounded amazing on the menu. The highlight of our visit was our server Emily. She walked us through the restaurant concept and menu. She was energetic, friendly and very helpful when it came to the menu items. We had the bacon wrapped dates which were amazing. The rainbow ceviche had a very fresh flavor accented with lots of citrus. We also enjoyed the grilled avocado salad with chicken. The chicken and avocado were both grilled and had such a flavorful char which added a depth to the dish. We will be back again.
A new experience in food. Tacos are too small but tasty. And music was a little bit to loud. Nonetheless, I will go back.
It was our first visit to SumoMaya and we were highly impressed! The unlimited brunch was such a great deal! Our server Zach was so attentive and the service was top notch. Food continuously came out quickly and Zack was on top of re-filling our drinks. Thoroughly enjoyed all the shared plates and the wagyu steak and eggs was delicious. Highly recommend going for brunch!
Every bite of our brunch was delicious! I especially loved the avocado toast and chia yogurt. Even a DJ at 10am, expect the party vibe
Air conditioning doesn’t work. Hasn’t worked in months. They have some portable units l, but seem to Dist be blowing warm air around.
Question…why wouldn’t they inform customers of this when you make your reservation. It is entirely unprofessional.
Sitting in a “nice” restaurant sweating is not the experience one would expect
We had reservations for over a month at SumoMaya. We were sat at the worst table in the house. Service was slow, small portions, and very expensive. Food was mediocre at best.
Air conditioning was not working and temperature in restaurant was hot. When I asked the staff how long the air conditioning had been out, they informed me that it had been out for several days. Outside temperature was 100F, so too hot to eat outside. I had to pay my check and leave the restaurant after ordering drinks, because it was too uncomfortable to dine there.
It was extremely loud! Music was thumping! It was almost impossible to hear someone next to you!
Air conditioner was out
Their air conditioning is broken! It’s hot and super uncomfortable. My wife and I moved to a table outside and it was more comfortable but then loud with large parties all around me us screaming. Food overall was good to very good. Sushi Rolls were great. Lobster tacos great. Skirt steak tacos, not good no flavor. Ceviche Crudo was very good.
Cool vibe but not a good place to go to unless they fix their air-conditioning. Especially if you’re going on a date or special occasion, definitely don’t go. After we moved seats outside, we watched other couples be seated in our previous location, and one by one they left the restaurant entirely because is was so bad.
That being said, we made the best of it. First time. Not going back anytime soon. Especially if they don’t fix the air conditioner!!!
The food and service was great, but the music was way too loud and the speaker system was terrible.
The atmosphere was beautiful and the waitress was so sweet! The food was delicious and the mojito drink was the BEST!! We got chicken and steak tacos, avocado rice, and guacamole. I can’t wait to go back again!!😁🍸🙌👍
Aaron was an excellent server. Great ambiance and great food!
I came to Scottsdale 2 years ago for my bachelorette and we were
Told we must come to sumo Mayo…and it was unreal!!! I would dream of coming back. On this trip I came twice. First day was kinda disappointing. Nothing terrible just I could tell it wasn’t the same. Service was good tho. Either way I camE back a few days later and my husband and I had a better experience. Kimchi rice and the sushi rolls were very good. Chicken Taco was too salty and another chicken dish we didn’t like and the waiter was so nice to take it off our bill. I m def not obsessed with this place anymore but a fun vibe nonetheless.
I know it’s “Covid times” but staff with masks is not only visually a turn off but also so hard to hear especially with the loud fun music. Also… no menus available whatsoever even when we asked. I do not like to use my phone at dinner. I am at a sit down full service restaurant, not chipotle. Give out menus. I would have stayed longer and ordered more food had I just saw a menu. Server tried her best, these restrictions on her are not her fault. I haven’t been to a restaurant in the valley lately that had such strict rules. For their success I hope they change
Food is fantastic and lobster ceviche terrific but they should mention on their website that their AC condensors are not working. Having a quality meal in 90 degrees heat is unacceptable.
One of the AC apparently has not been working for months and it was so hot, we were very uncomfortable the entire evening, sweating. While the food was really good, overall it was not an enjoyable experience and we just wanted to leave however the service was very slow. I think the least the restaurant can do is to notify the AC is not working when you make a reservation as this has been out for a while.
We were really excited for our reservation at SumoMaya as it had appeared on majority of the lists for Top Brunch Spots in Scottsdale and it had great reviews!
All I'm gonna say is the a/c in half of the restaurant does NOT work! They apparently renovated and didn't account for the new beams in the ceiling and it somehow blocks the a/c vents. It was miserable! Temp was approx 100 degrees on the Sunday (09/05) we went and it wasn't much cooler inside at our table.
The food is truly delicious, our server was cool....she prob had too many tables to wait on and didn't come around for drink refills much but honestly the only thing we wanted refilled was WATER. They ran out of Prosecco, so we were only able to get 2 mimosas.
The place is really cool inside, maybe at night it is more pleasant...however for right now until their a/c is fixed....I'd stay away!
They had a live DJ for brunch it was SOOOOO loud.
The shared apps were great. The entrees were variable- my friends like the wagyu beef but ahi tuna was mediocre.
The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars was cause if the discomfort of their chairs. Probably the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in for a restaurant like this.
Food/service amazing. I’m all about the dj and music setting, I think the sound was a bit too loud tho.
Overall I will for sure always come back, but I will make sure to get a different chair if it’s the tables with the lawn chair style chair.
Was seated outside on patio with no air flow in 110 degree heat. Only received 1 refill on water during our entire experience after asking our server multiple times for water.
What an amazing place for brunch and bottomless mimosas. The music is awesome too.
Fun place. Food is great. Just over reaching. Working to hard to be cool? Sushi is excellent. Pork tacos wondrous. Mexican Raman failed to connect. Fusion is hard I guess. My second time here. Still don't want to come back. Wife loves it.
Meh, I was underwhelmed by everything. The prices were expensive. It was very busy on a Tuesday night so obviously other people love it.
Waited an hour but my food didn't come up. This place was super loud can barely have a conversation. The open kitchen concept is great but it gets really smoky if you sit next to the kitchen.
Food is amazing!!
The food was OK. The drinks and service were good. The music is so loud that you have to yell to talk to your party.
Sumo is usually my favorite spot but last night was disappointed. There was no working AC only fans. No AC in Arizona is absolutely ridiculous. I will not be returning until I know the AC is fixed. Such a nice restaurant but having no AC doesn’t work for me.
Food was delicious. Service was great. Loud & club like atmosphere.
The most amazing sushi! Very unique menu.
Fun and upbeat vibe
Super friendly staff
Music too loud and food portions are too small.
Other than that it’s great.
Always my favorite place to eat. The flavors of the food are amazing. Usually have trouble limiting the number of items to order to what I can actually eat in one sitting. Menu has good variety for those hesitant on fusion restaurants. Only advice is that they need to keep temp in there a little cooler, it was very warm and I was sweating esp with all the people.
We were sat outside on the patio with very hot temps. The temperature made it uncomfortable and the service was extremely slow. We waited 20 minutes for our drink. Also the hostesses was very rude when we asked if we could be sat inside.
They really need to designate their reservations for inside vs outside.
I won’t be going back knowing that I could be sat outside again even after making a reservation.
We reserved our table many weeks in advance to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived the restaurant had no air conditioning and sat us at a high-top bar table right next to a portable fan they were using in attempt to cool the restaurant down. When we asked to move the only other table they could give us was on their covered patio which was even hotter! The temperature that day in phoenix was over 100 degrees.
