SumoMaya Mexican-Asian Kitchen
Wonderful food and excellent service!
Great food and service!
We enjoyed a delicious dinner as a family of 6!
Incredible food and service. I go every time I’m in town. Wish the music was a bit lower but otherwise an amazing place
When I told my friend I was going here when our family came into town and for my daughters birthday, she warned me about the terrible experience she had just last week.
We decided to still go ahead and go there. There were 6 of us. I gave the very special custom birthday cake to the hostess with very clear instructions.
She assured me that the birthday surprise would be taken care of and they had it in the system since I had notified them beforehand.
Well, our waitress was so snotty, dismissive, inattentive. There was NO bus person so we bussed the table ourselves. The dishes came out so slowly, most of them were not hot and when I asked the waitress if we ordered too much food(we ordered WAY too much) she replied”I don’t know. What do you want me to say?”
When the waitress asked if we wanted dessert, I couldn’t believe it. I gave her a look and she left the table and returned with a stale piece of whatever cake it was with a candle. When I told the manager I was so upset they did not bring the cake, he knew nothing about it. 20 minutes later they brought our asparagus along with the cake. They said they could not find the cake and the hostess had messed up.
Even though the manager reduced our bill, it was the most disappointing experience.
The service at this restaurant is horrendous, the food mediocre and the management is overwhelmed and was going from table to table putting out fires. I have since learned that many people I know have had similar experiences and have never gone back.
With all the restaurants in Scottsdale, this will not survive if they continue on this path.
Reducing a bill is an attempt to rectify but I cannot do my daughters birthday again.
Because of the bad service, it ended up being a 3 hour meal and not a good experience overall.
I should have listened to all that warned me about their experiences at Sumo Maya. Btw, the noise level prohibits you from talking and hearing anybody speak.
Not worth your money, patience or time.
ALWAYS THE BEST, have gone many many times and it is always nothing but wonderful
Went for bottomless brunch and had a great time. The menu had changed from when I went a year ago and I consider it an improvement with a great variety or sweet and savory bottomless items as well as some great entree items. The restaurant is very loud and a bit crowded, and service can get slower. But overall I consider it a great place for a treat.
Great food. Music is very loud. Not a place for intimate conversation
Love the food
Cool atmosphere and great food. Best ceviche we’ve ever had!
Took my family (all girls) for V-Day.
One of our favorite places to dine. Lively & fantastic food! Only complaint is that it was a bit dark in the outdoor dining area.
This is the 2nd time we have been here, my wife and I absolutely love this place. The food is amazing!!
Food and service was outstanding. Only issue was with the noise level. They constantly play techno music at high levels making having a conversation with the person or people you came with difficult.
I love this place. My wife and I have been here a ton of times. The food is really great and the ambience is really fun.
My only caution is that the noise level is very loud. It is not suitable for an quiet conversation or for a business meeting. That said I will continue to go to this place. Great food draws me.
I fun place to go and a go-to place for all of our out of towners and friends in the neighborhood
the brunch is great as well and worth the try
Always fun and lively, this Asian/Mexican Fusion restaurant offers interesting and good food. Fun decor. Love their shishito peppers, sushi, and pad thai. Definitely fun for a group or a date night. Great people watching.
Dinner with a dear friend! Service was excellent! A bit loud however which is typical there. The food was exceptional albeit not quite as hot as it should’ve been upon delivery. The flavors were delicious! Can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow morning with the leftovers! :-)
Good food, fun atmosphere. Didn't want brunch so made reservations for 3 pm on a Sunday. Unfortunately the menu was limited because it wasn't yet dinner hours (4:30 pm). This was disappointing but food was delicious.
It’s a great spot for a younger crowd because the music they play is so loud, you will literally feel like you’re in a club. We had to yell to have a conversation and after a while, it became ridiculous because every table was yelling to have conversations. Combine that with the music, it was not worth having a nice dining experience or worth spending money at this establishment. Service was good, food ok. I’ve eaten here before and remember the food being exceptional. But the brunch food was just ok. We were there on Sunday and they offered brunch. It’s all shared plates and the portions are very small. You get all you can eat starters with an entree for $32. If you want alcohol, it’s an additional $12/pp. The drinks were watered down and starters were so small that it was impossible to share amongst 4. I would suggest the value at brunch isn’t worth it but would consider dining during lunch or dinner. Only if you can tolerate very loud music and people yelling.
A fun place for a group. Very lively, Vegas like atmosphere.
Great food, great service. Not sure why they need a giant projector in such a nice restaurant, kinda has a negative impact on the atmosphere.
Great vibe. Fun menu. Wait staff and kitchen are finely tuned. We noted that there was a birthday in our party when we reserved and didn't need to remind them. This is a fun, relaxing restaurant with a bit of flair, creative menu, really good food and courteous people. We always take out-of-towners here for dinner and have never been disappointed.
Yum. But don’t fill up on
Very good food - nice combinations of the two cuisines, good wait service. Place is very crowded and our outside seating was not the greatest - floor was wet and puddled under our table.
Best place in town! I take everyone that comes to visit me here .
Service was slow. We waited 30 minutes for cocktails and 30 minutes for our second cocktail.
Fun restaurant with tons of delicious food choices. We visit yearly and repeat visit SumoMaya!
As always, everything was delicious, and katie was an excellent server. Prices are still a little high, but the quality is also, so it balances out. Every time a guest comes to visit, we go to Sumo Maya. That all love it.
Superb food with excellent quality ingredients. It was exceptionally loud with the dj that night so it made conversation near-impossible, would have been good to know prior to booking if that was a special occasion.
The food is always good. Guacamole is yummy, had sushi rolls, pad tai and something else I can't remember. The music was so high, and the people were super loud. The staff also do not know when to pick up chairs... they just drag and throw metal tables against the concrete floor around. The gent did apologize after I sort of snapped. Just go ready to deal with the incredibly high noise pollution.
Great food. Great service
Food was underwhelming and overpriced. Shaking beef noodle dish was the worst -3 small pieces of filet served over raw onion. The side of noodles was a $3 up charge which is crazy because it is a noodle entree. This is a place is a scene and somehow gets away with small expensive plates of mediocre food.
We were told the restaurant was loud but that was an understatement. We were seated on the patio which was slightly better than the main room but the pounding of the Euro trash music was not only uncomfortable but hurt your ear drums. Everyone had to yell to be heard & it was absolutely ridiculous trying to have a conversation. The menu, food & service was great but the music ruined the whole experience. I understand later in the evening it becomes a pick up joint so the restaurant should start playing the awful music later when everyone has had a few drinks in them so they can tolerate the noise.
A+ service at the bar
Food and service is outstanding:) it is like a dance for your taste buds!!!
We had a reservation for 1945 and there were still no tables available at 2015, so we finally sat at the bar for dinner. There were three hostesses doing literally nothing to help with the situation. When we sat down, the cloth napkins were wet and there were no menus. We ordered and finally received food at 2045.
Food was generally good, but we specified no cilantro, which they said they could do and the food came out with cilantro. I would worry about eating here with allergies since attention to detail was not very good.
Overall the poor management of reservations and weak service overwhelmed a potentially good, maybe even great meal. Would not recommend or go back.
Obviously a very big hot spot for diners to go! Thought food was really tasty. Service could’ve been a little more prompt- while everyone seemed nice, we hardly got water refilled and had to wait a long time to order. However, we’d definitely go back!
