No AC. it was hot and my whole group was sweating. We live in AZ time to get better Air Conditioning for that kind of money
Great food and service!
Birthday dinner was great!
The A/C was not functioning well at all.
Food exceeded expectations! Service was on point as well.
We had read some bad reviews regarding not friendly hostess and waiters. Our hostess was very friendly and our waiter was outstanding. The food was excellent. The manager also came to our table a visited with us. Can’t wait to go back.
The food was fantastic. The pacing of bringing out the dishes was perfect. One of our party does not have a cell phone, so not having a paper menu was somewhat difficult. There was confusion over the reservations. The waiter was good and helpful until the end. He complained when we asked to have the bill split three ways and said it could not be done. The noise level was high.
Visiting on vacation, and went here on a recommendation, great fun place , cool vibe, very attentive staff, food and drinks delish! Try the plantains, and the sticky cake, so yum!
Food & service was great.
They need to turn down the music - it’s not a nightclub- we had to yell to hear each other
Music was too loud. Not the best sushi for the money.
I went here with my husband on Friday night. We had a 6:45p reservation, made weeks ago. (I’m pregnant and still am able to enjoy many things on the menu here, as they have plenty of cooked fish etc) However, when we arrived they offered us a high top in the back corner next to the bar, with uncomfortable clear plastic hard chairs and a table not really large enough to fit two meals. I simply told them we did not want to sit here and the hostess said she could get the manager then. The manager explained the only other offering they had was the bar, which we took since the chairs are at least padded and more comfortable there. He was not very accommodating…offering us the high top…the bar…or a table outside in the rain.
All I can say is that when you have a dinner reservation ….you don’t expect to be seated next to the bar at a high top table or at the bar for that matter, unless specified as part of the reservation request. If this is all the restaurant had to offer, they simply need to call guests ahead of time to explain to them that they will not be seated at a dinner table. If I had known in advance, I would have chosen to go elsewhere.
Moving on….it was impossible to service to eat a meal at the bar.
We were brought out food that wasn’t ours and then charged for it. Food runners did not know who ordered what and where.
Horrible experience. The food is mostly tasty here for what it is, however, their manager needs to learn how to provide good customer service and learn how to take care of guests appropriately and professionally, as well as be more understanding. He never once offered an apology in any form.
Perhaps it’s just a great place for a bachelorette party; however, not classy enough for a nice adult date night.
fun environment with good food. we recommend!
The ceviche and tacos were delicious but the sushi was just moderate and overpriced imo. Also the fedeos secos noodle dish was not our cup of tea, it seemed like spaghettios with sausages and mayonnaise.
It was extremely warm in the restaurant which hurt the ambiance and overall experience. I wish they had Happy hour pricing but they do not. Not somewhere to go if you are on a budget. Overall I thought the drinks and food were really good. The service was good as well.
Dined for my birthday and had an excellent experience!! The cocktails were delicious, and my favorite sushi was the gluten free cali roll and the spicy crab roll!!
celebrating our one year anniversary in Scottsdale and this restaurant was phenomenal. We would eat here every night to experience different foods!
Chairs are extremely uncomfortable. Food very spicy. Service great. Unlikely to return anytime soon
The food, service and atmosphere is always good!
Good and service was amazing. Bart was excellent, knowledgeable and gave perfect recommendations.
My friends and I came for a birthday dinner 3 weeks ago and had a fabulous time. Our server was knowledgable, bubbly, and very attentive. The food was delicious, unique, fresh, we loved it. I actually ended up booking a brunch reservation for us during our dinner. We were THAT excited to try the brunch menu here.
Fast forward to today. We were seated on the patio which was shaded, had ceilings fans, and a few swamp coolers going. We wish we knew we were going to be seated outside before we were actually seated, but we brushed it off. Our server and a trainee arrived, and we ordered our drinks and food as we were both hungry and excited. The server explained the food will just come out as soon as it is made, item by item. For shared plates, we ordered the "sumo" egg rolls off, pancake "street tacos", and crab rangoons. The egg roll order arrived in less than 5min and we literally receive half an egg roll cut in half, for four people. The food runner said more were coming so myself and a friend ate the 2 pieces. It tasted like a panda express or trader joe's frozen egg roll. Nothing amazing, and again, we received HALF an egg roll for four people. I received my al pastor pad Thai and scarfed it down. I give it a 6/10. It didn't taste like al pastor and was basically stir fried pork pieces in the noodles.
After more waiting, I noticed a table who sat down after us had already received 3 rounds of food and 2 rounds of drinks. We asked our server when our shared plates were arriving as we witnessed multiple tables around us receive plates we also ordered. Our table's second entree arrived and my friend who ordered it, ate half of her ramen. She said it was okay. Still no shared plates at this time. Server came back and we told her no shared plates had arrived yet + we were missing two entrees. It took another 20min for both of those entrees to arrive. And yes, still no shared plates. We notified our server again and her quiet, passive aggressive attitude was no long
We were visiting from San Diego and we went to Sumomaya for our anniversary and it was the most perfect experience! The food was amazing, our server was awesome, and our dinner felt so special with a complimentary dessert to top it off! Highly recommend!!!
Our Server was Amazing. I’ve have him twice now and I would have to say he’s my absolute favorite and I wish I knew his name. Food is delicious as always. Drinks were great! Definitely my favorite place to go for dinner. We come here to celebrate our anniversary/Birthdays here every year!
Amazing staff and great vibes. The food was incredible and everything was next time perfect!
Bomb brunch. Small plates and entrees.
Fantastic and fun atmosphere! Interesting and creative food!
Far too noisy to hear anyone. This restaurant has become a hangout for young kids and parties and it’s a shame.
They are probably losing money eliminating a more foodie type crowds who want to linger and taste a full menu.
Bad last experience.
Our first visit back in a while, although the cuisine is still fabulous, some of the character has been lost due to removal of the colorful chairs and table settings. Service is top notch. The kitchen and seeing staff are like an oiled machine.
Sumo Maya has always been one of my favorite restaurants, but last night was a big disappointment. The margaritas were not good and the salad I typically order was different and I couldn’t eat it. Plus the guacamole was full of quarters of avocado that were hard and couldn’t be eaten. My entire party has been to sumo Maya numerous times and I don’t know if any of us will go back.
Place is a home run every time. So good all around.
Place to see and be seen more than to enjoy the culinary experience. Slow, almost neglectful service and so noisy (background music) almost impossible to hear someone speak directly across our table.
The food was outstanding last night! Loved the street corn and fried rice. Very fun vibe and the decor is great.
Amazing food, so flavorful, unique, presentation is the best, highly recommend, only thing was little too hot inside, had to sweat a little, otherwise 👌
Our waiter was so great! We went with his recommendations and loved them! I will definitely come back again soon!
We had fantastic service from our server and food was great.
However the hostess was extremely rude and snobby! She was brunette with her hair in a braid. We had a reservation and she tried to sit us outside when it was 110 and a dust storm was coming in. She told us it would be 45 minutes so told her we would wait. Then she said oh it’ll actually be an hour. She was extremely rude and put a damper on our evening. It was also very hot inside.
Made reservations 3 weeks in advance for 6:15 pm. Inside was full upon arrival so they were seating people on their enclosed outdoor patio in 111 degree weather. They had fans on with 2 swap coolers running. Obviously this did not help. Employees were also getting in front of the swap coolers to try and cool off because they were also hot. When they got in front of them NO air was able to get by making the horrible situation even worse. Table was full of condensation from our drinks my back and bottom were sweating. I asked to be put inside or be put on a waitlist to come back in. They said it would be up to 2 hrs.
When we left they had 4 (4) tops open on our way out. We were never told anything became available while we were left outside in sweating in the heat.
Our server was Amazing and the food was good. In weather over 100 they should close the patio and only seat indoor instead of trying to get more money. Not a pleasant experience:(
It had been awhile since we had eaten at SM, so we thought we'd try it post-Covid. It's always been a fun lively atmosphere, but this time around the DJ/music was WAY. TOO. LOUD. Like major anxiety-inducing loud for what we were hoping would be a relaxing mid-day brunch. We wanted to actually talk to each other while eating instead of just staring at our phones, so we asked to move outside on the enclosed patio. Noise level was a teenie bit lower outside, but no misters seemed to be on, just fans blowing around 100 degree hot air. But we got thru it and just resigned ourselves to being sweaty and miserable. The brunch food and drinks were very good, and service was prompt and friendly. We'll be back in cooler weather, and hope the music noise level is a little better.
If you are looking for a place to yell over the insanely loud music to the person sitting next to you or the waitress than this is the place for you.
So hot outside
The evening had a shaky start but we ended up enjoying ourselves. We made a reservation 6 weeks prior and reserved an inside standard table. When we arrived we were told we could only sit at a high top (not quite as comfortable) or outside (extremely hot, 108). Despite saying we would wait, the hostess quite rudely told us that wasn’t an option and that if we didn’t like our choices we could leave. We opted for the high top. Our waitress service was excellent as was the food. Evening salvaged. Still undecided on whether we will return as we were made to feel unwelcome at first.
