SumoMaya Mexican-Asian Kitchen
We went for the brunch. Service was excellent and love the atmosphere with the open style kitchen and the tree. It is a big square room basically and they had a couple guitar player/singers and the style of music fit with theme but as the shape of the room isn't conducive to noise it just became a little too loud and the sound quality not the best. I liked the plate presentment and the tapas style for brunch however some of the dishes seemed a little basic albeit still yummy. The drinks although were pretty bad. The margarita and bloody tasted like a poor quality watered down mix and the drink glasses were sticky and dirty on the outside. Overall it was a decent brunch but not overly excited and might go back but not in a rush especially given the other options in the area.
The brunch is excellent!! They had switched the menu up a little bit I was very hurt when they took off the migas but the new items were good! The oatmeal was amazing and the presentation is awesome! The margaritas bottomless gets me in trouble lol they are so good! The price is definitely worth it! It does get crowded and noisy so it you do not like big crowds go before 11AM that’s when more people come to get the crunkness started lol.
PS... they have Mexican hot chocolate (Abuelita) that’s not on the menu but is apart of it. Sooo good! I pours it into my coffee and it was DELICIOUS!
So loud that we couldn’t have a conversation.
Music just to loud for a dining experience. Other than that it was outstanding!
REally disappointed in this place. Weird dude greeting people not very genuine. Waitress was all over us not giving us a chance to read the menu and make choices. Kept asking us what else we wanted to order. The sushi was decent but the taco's were really bad. Tiny, dry meat, no real flavor. Almost everything has some kind of hot pepper or heat element. Sauces and heat really override any flavor the food may have. REally loud enviroment, music and acoustics. Didn't think the blend of Mex-Asian worked for this place. Really diappointed.
Food and service were good overall but, the menu is not friendly to those who require a sugar-free diet. Every member of my team has a January birthday so we chose Sumo Maya as our team birthday lunch. One of my team members has a strict dietary need that involves no sugar otherwise it will cause her liver to fail. After placing orders, our server came back and let her know that the sushi rice has sugar. She then struggled to find something accommodating and was able to order plain steak tacos. We were also told that the rice dish we ordered (that was large enough to be shared) had no sugar, but when it arrived they announced the sauce that was already poured and mixed in had sugar. I felt extremely horrible that one of my team members wasn't able to enjoy a birthday celebration like everyone else. I also mentioned in my RSVP that it was everyone's birthday. The server came and confirmed with me so I thought desert or something was going to be done (even if it was an additional cost), but nothing happened so I wasn't sure why she even confirmed.
Food is unique and quite flavorful. The noise level is high making conversation somewhat difficult. Timing on delivery of entrees to all members of a party could be improved.
Food was delicious, staff was great, but the music and noise was annoying and interfered with the evening. If I wanted to go to a bar, I would have. I wanted to a nice evening with friends from Singapore but we had to yell to converse.
I love coming here for brunch and bring every friend who is in town. The new brunch menu was good but there were more sweet than savory options and at noon the location was already out of the egg rolls. Our server was amazing and on top of everything. Food quality is good so that's what keeps me coming back. My wagu steak entree was smaller than the last time as well.
I like the menu modifications, fix your upper sunscreens on the southside. We were there at 10:45 lots of sun on the westside where we sat. It was my wife's birthday and she never minds going to Suma Maya. I did request flowers I guess you guys couldn't accommodate that request. Keep doing what you're doing and we'll keep coming!!
This is our favorite place for happy hour and brunch!!! Every thing is amazing from the staff to the food and drinks to the ambiance. Also great place to take friends or family from out of town
Best sushi and best pad Thai!! Love the live music
The service , beverages and food were fantastic! While the energy at Sumomaya is great! The downside is that it is so loud that dinner conversations are difficult and it was hard to hear or be heard by our server. It would be nice to have a balance between the energy of the bar area and the ability to enjoy fun conversations with friends. And for the record I am Not a 60+year old saying this. Hard to even go on a date night on Saturdays. But the food is amazing!
We loved it. Vibrant and beautiful.
This place may take the spot of the best meal we’ve ever had. If it doesn’t hold the top spot it is among the best. The noice level was insane though. I had heard it was really loud in there but I thought i remembered it was after 9 that it got loud. Our reservation was at 730 and the dj was doing his thing. We talked at dinner about all the people we new that would love the food but would never even consider going bc of the ambiance/noice level. It was a fun experience and the food and drinks were top notch.
Our food was delicious and our server was very good. However the experience was disappointing at the very beginning. We Asked to be moved one table over away from the waitstaff table. After talking with the hostess she informed us that she could not move us there because she needed that table to be put together with another table for a bigger party. We made a reservation weeks ago so we were disappointed that they couldn’t accommodate us. If this wasn’t bad enough they never use the table for a bigger party and sat a party of four exactly the same size as ours right next to us literally 10 minutes later. There’s absolutely no reason why they couldn’t seat us at this table. Unfortunately we won’t be returning here. We were left us with a bad taste in her mouth ; no pun intended.
We had a birthday dinner for my daughter. The food was excellent and our server was great. The noise level was so high that even though we were a small group, you had to lean across the table to hear...and we were on the patio in the corner which was probably the quietist place in the restaurant.
The octopus was sooo good we ordered it twice
As was everything we ate. Just a fabulous night of food and service.
Loved the food. Music was WAY TOO LOUD. Would not return because of the noise
We have dined at Sumo Maya in the past, and the food continues to be creative and wonderful.
One this occasion, we had made reservations and were seated at a table for two flanked by a table for six and a table for eight. The vibe at Sumo Maya is fueled by dance club beats, which drives up the volume when people at large tables talk. We requested a change of tables, and when we moved to a somewhat quieter spot (averaging 75db on my Apple watch), we could and did enjoy everything.
It was so noisy that we will never return. Manager said he likes it that way
Been wanting to try this place for some time. I WILL BE BACK. The FLAVORS! We enjoyed the Seaweed Salad appetizer, spicy yellowtail roll and the rainbow ceviche. We were full but HAD to finish it ALL it was that delicious. CANT wait to return!
If you asked me pick between the awesome food and the RAD service I just couldn't. Love everything about SumoMaya.
Wow!! This was by far the best brunch experience I’ve ever had. Our server was amazing and the food was top notch.
We really like SumoMaya. This time we came for Sunday brunch and were very disappointed. We didn't want to do the bottomless brunch and just ordered from a regular menu. While the food was good the service was horrible. We felt we were punished because we didn't want to do brunch. Waitress was inattentive and unaccountable. My husband got served cold meal twice. The manager compensated for it though. And that's why I am giving it 3 stars. We ordered two main entries and a churro waffle. They brought waffle with ice cream way before entries. Waitress blamed everything on a kitchen instead of taking a responsibility when it comes to submitting the order where it makes sense to bring entries first and dessert later. Not to mention the fact that entries were serves 15 min apart from each other. Plus, the portions are so small for what they charge. We love the food there, but got very disappointed with the service.
Our food was incredible! Everything was so delicious. Our service was outstanding!
It was awfull, we brought a cake before our reservation for a birthday party, and said it was a surprise, asked for sparklers and candles they said they had everything figured out, we get there, the waitress asked the birthday boy If he brought a cake which spoiled the whole surprise, it was brought to the table with no candles, they said they didnt had any left, which was disappointing. Our food was cold, the meat was overcooked, they didnt had all the dishes in the menu.
I dont recommend this place.
Everything was excellent and we were thrilled that you could accommodate a party of 14 when we only booked for 10.
SumoMaya is a great way to spend a long brunch with friends, eating shared plates and each person getting their own entree. Along with this, it is $12 more (the brunch price is $32) for bottomless mimosas, margarita's or draft beer. The beer selection was great, and there are multiple flavors of both the mimosas and margaritas. Word of warning here - either Uber, Lyft or bring a designated driver. Your waiter, or any waiter walking by will instantly ask if you want another drink as soon as you have a few sips left. The food is good. We had a lot of sushi rolls, egg rolls (excellent), pork fried rice, salsa and rangoons, which were also all excellent. Service is impeccable and plates are cleared quickly. The seating is for 2 hours, which is more than enough to get stuffed on food and drinks. For your entree, the Carne Asada Scramble was really good, but the winner of the dish was the Enchilada Suizas were amazing. The Egg's Benedict hollandaise sauce was too thick and tasted like they used regular unsalted butter and not clarified butter.
Definitely call and make a reservation as it will get extremely busy during brunch. The outside area is heated and they will adjust the temperature if you need. It does get loud but thankfully the DJ was not spinning. This is a turn off for us at other brunch places that play the music so loud, it is impossible to hear people at your table. It looks like they can accommodate a huge party of 20 or more on the patio. Totally worth grabbing a group of friends and hanging out for a great brunch one weekend.
We drive 45 minutes just to go eat here, the environment is great. The staff is awesome and the food is absolutely amazing.
Our server, Victoria, was great and made our experience a 5 star worthy birthday brunch!
I would recommend for the food, but not the atmosphere. I am not a fan of the loud disco-dinner experience. I don't know if the annoying dj is there all the time but if I were to ever go back that would have to be eliminated. Also, the tables are too small. The food was delivered wonderfully fast, but the table isn't big enough to accommodate appetizer and entree plates, w/drinks. Oh and, yeah, NOT A FAN of the uncomfortable PLASTIC chairs. You are going for a trendy, hip casual thing, but it doesn't play, for me.
Awesome! Quality and unsurpassed service!
Innovative cuisine from Asia, Mexico and Peru. Excellent preparation. Quite noisy and hectic but overall a great experience
Highly recommend the margarita, tuna tostadas, guacamole, and tacos. The atmosphere and music are awesome!!
However, we were disappointed by some of food compared to a year ago: the bacon wrapped dates were overdone and the sushi is just ok. We vacation here from Minnesota where we have some of the best sushi in the country.
Celebrated daughters birthday. Excellent food, ambiance, and service!
Omg!!! The Chilean Seabass could be best bite I’ve ever had. Amazing flavors in a fun and funky atmosphere.
