SumoMaya Mexican-Asian Kitchen
Very interesting eclectic fusion menu. Beautiful contemporary atmosphere. Food excellent.
My daughter and I had a great time there tonight. The guac with homemade large round chips was a great starter. We then split the steak tacos (simple but great taste) and the green tea soba noodles. Phenomenal service, great tastes and a very comfortable setting. Nice to have the subtle TVs off to the side of you want to check the scores. Might have turned the music down one or two notches.
Very, very loud. It is hard to hear what others are saying at your own table the noise level is so loud and the music is blaring. Certainly NOT the place to go for a nice quiet dinner. But if you are into the "club scene" then this is the place for you. Food is okay. Some things are very good, some things not so much, and some things are just plain weird.
Always excellent service and food. But unfortunately the acoustics is not good and this lends for a very loud experience .
Other then that we enjoy SumoMaya
My wife and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary. It was much more than we could imagine. Alec our waiter was fantastic five stars to him. Alec took the time to setup a special table just for us. Beautiful flowers and a glass of champagne waiting or our arrival. He explained the bunch menu with us. His service was on point. What an experience. Thank you for helping make our anniversary very special.
The food was incredible
The food was wonderful; very fresh. It had a vibe. I would recommend sitting outside if you want to talk, but still very fun. I would go back in a heartbeat.
We heard rave reviews about sumomaya but the night we went was incredibly loud, the food was interesting with the fusion ideas but many of the dishes did not blend well. The first round of drinks were fantastic, the second round weren't drinkable. We may have just found an off night.
Awesome service and amazing food! Come to this spot every time I am in Scottsdale and it never disappoints.
One of the things that I love about SumoMaya is that there is so much to choose from it is possible to eat a number of different items and feel like you had a great multi-course meal. The downside is that there are so many things I leave having wanted to try! This has been echoed by everyone I've taken here, and it has become one of my first stops when a visitor comes to the area. Fun and festive so be ready to compete with noise on occasion, but definitely a unique spot in the valley that is worth visiting.
I understand why some people would like this restaurant but for the two of us it was underwhelming. The atmosphere is decent, the food was ok and the service was sub par.
as always the food is great but their serving process leads a lot to be desired. this is two straight times that I have gone, one at lunch one at dinner where on a table of four one member food was so late that all the other party members were done eating . this time was my spouse who had salmon which one wouldn't think would take that long. I know they will tell you that things come out in order that it cooks but you cant have some patron be so late that everyone else is finished. I for one ( having been their at least 6 times) will likely not go again until I hear that this unacceptable service is fixed. One other annoying issue was the surcharge on the bill for $2.96. When I asked was told this is the result of minimum wage increase by the state. come on will a $125 bill just add 2-3% to prices and get on with it.
Great vibe, great music and great food. A must go if you like sushi, etc.
The food quality is great! We had a lovely experience and excellent service with Audra! We will be back...
It was great!
Food was good, service was excellent but noise level and pricing was high
Wow!!! Completely shocked with the Gordon Ramsay "want to be".
The manager? Had a pep talk/shouting match with the kitchen staff for 30 minutes!!! Completely unacceptable if you are going to have an open kitchen. The manager was all about himself and could not get it together when it got busy. Should NOT have to wait two hours at 4:30. The restaurant wasn't busy, but
Everything we ate was delicious. The staff were all very attentive. However the restaurant was REALLY loud and not conducive to conversation for oldies like us.
SumoMaya has very good sushi. overall the restaurant is way overrated.
the manager was nice, as it was my wife b-day ,and sent over a thoughtful desert.
would only recommend if people were here for an extended time and have tried many other better places.
Wonderful food, great service and great environment
The service was slow, the food was terrible, the restaurant was uncomfortably warm, the drinks were pure sugar, and the server was distracted and easily irritated. Will never return.
I had a wonderful dining experience. I initially thought the noise level would disrupt my dinner but it was a good balance. I had the Sea Bass which was delicious. The Spicy Peach Margarita was fantastic. The service was outstanding. I will definitely be back.
Great ambiance and outstanding food and cocktails, per usual.
Everything was great until they literally kicked us out because they needed our table for a bigger party. I mean we were eating dessert, having a nice conversation and they couldn’t even find a table before telling us to move or leave? Definitely not going back to this place.
Great vibe. Good food. Fun happy hour. Cant wait to go again
Love it period....
Came here for my birthday and it was fabulous! A little dark and somewhat overpriced, but worth the occasion! Loved it overall 💕 Got Korean tacos, mai mai tacos, and rolls
Best food and drinks EVER.
Always very good, rock shrimp appetizer, ceviche, tacos and crab noodles were all excellent choices.
No greeting at front door. Friendly server Guacamole and sashimi excellent. Other dishes far less compelling .
Outstanding mix of unique flavors. Knowledgable and accurate service. Provided good recommendations. Will be back.
Always a great to visit for special occasions. Great food and service.
There is a DJ spinning records by check-in. It’s a lively atmosphere with amazing food. Our server, Aaron, took great care of us. The food comes out fast! The drink menu also has many delicious and crafty options. I wanted to try everything on the menu, but since that wasn’t possible, we will have to return every time we visit Phoenix! If you want an amazing experience with unique flavors and a top-notch menu, don’t pass this up!
Our surfer Anna was fantastic and the food was delicious.
Yuck 🤢- the Sushi was mediocre and the attempt to fuse Japanese with Mexican flavors fails. You’ve been to other Asian fusion restaurants that were delicious so we were looking forward to eating here, but honestly it was bad.
Mariah was our server - she was amazing!
I visited recently for a birthday brunch celebration. The music was so loud you could not hear your conversation. Service was slow. I have been to Sumo Maya for dinner and it was a much better experience.
They seated our reservation of 4 at a bar table for 2 people. We couldn’t even fit for menus on the table let alone 4 entree plates. The response for the manager was too bad. The waitress was nice and shocked they put 4 people at a table for 2 people. Seems management doesn’t care about customer service as they didn’t come back, said they would look for another table and never came back. Shocked at how poorly the manager handle the situation. Food is good, waitress was very nice, but attitude of management is disgusting.
The service was kind, but not attentive or responsive. The food was a mess. Stick to one cuisine–keep it simple. The noise level was ridiculous. I would rather be strapped to a chair in the middle of a gymnasium of trapped and crying two year olds than dine here again. Because they, at least, would have an excuse for all the noise.
one of our favorite places to go, we had never been for brunch! we loved it and recommend SumoMaya to all our friends!
