very good food. nice staff.
This was recommendation from a friend who lives across the street from the restaurant. Exceptional food and service! We will be back for sure!
Hibachi is great but do not order lobster (came out rubbery) or salmon (everyone in my party that ate it felt ill the next day). We suspect that these items are not ordered as much and may have been as fresh as the more frequently ordered items. Shrimp, chicken and steak all tasted great and no complaints with them.
Enjoyable dinner, good food and pleasant staff. Definitely will be back.
. Great food except for the 22% impose gratitude on our bill for a party of 5. The restaurant was empty with 2 other couples. I tought that was very outrageous
I'm going sum up the entire experience by saying anytime I look up to find a waitress standing over me, looking over my shoulder to see what I'm giving for a tip AND THEN going so far as to tell me what she feels I should give (in the face of poor service) a decision is made to never visit that establishment again!
It was a horrible dinner. They didn’t even recognize our reservation. It took ten minutes to get a drink. We finally got the bill and left. Will never go back again
Foods good. It's sushi! The hibachi portion I can't comment on but it sure sounded lively and fun over there! Good spot for a nice little date night.
Food was great. Service was pretty good. I had to get a high chair even though I noted the need for one in my Open Table reservation. They were a little slow in clearing off dishes and empty drinks. Don't get me wrong, we'll be back. We've been there four times.
It was good but this place use to be better. Service has gone up and staff are friendlier. We wet to the Hibachi table and it was fun but the fried rice had to much pepper and it felt that it needed more time frying. Noodles were o-k and the meat was excellent.
I love coming here and Mother's Day was no different! My Mother and I had a great time and the food was delicious and ample!
Food was delicious and the hibachi chef was excellent! I understand we went early afternoon on a Wednesday, but they waited a long time before bringing out the chef, I’m assuming to see if others would come in they didn’t waste a hibachi table on 2 of us. Once we did get to eat though it was great
I went here with some family. We were promptly seated and our orders were taken shortly after. The food was good and well priced. Service was attentive. Overall good place to go.
Sat at booth instead of Teppanyaki table. Next time would go to Teppanyaki table. I enjoyed our meal. My husband was disappointed. because he had enjoyed this restaurant much more when seated at the Teppanyaki table.
We choose Sumo due to its distance to our house, near the movie theater, and great reviews. We were pleasantly surprised on the quality of food, speed of service, and relatively affordable price point. We had the Shrimp Tempura, Angry Bird and Hot Lover sushi rolls, and Sashimi Deluxe. Delicious
We noticed their Happy Hour specials as we left the restaurant, we will be returning in the future.
Lovely place enjoyed the food and atmosphere the staff was excellent
I have had a better experience at this place before. But this particular visit wasn’t that great. We felt like the Hibachi chef was inexperienced and made the overall experience bad. The meat and vegetables were not well cooked and no entertainment at all. The server seemed very eager to send us out ... we were asked if we need a box two or three times but we were still eating and having a good discussion.
Service wasn’t great at all but the food was on point.
Service was slow. The servers were all literally running around frenzied. The sushi wasn’t great. The fish wasn’t fresh. Rolls fell apart. When I asked for rice for the sashimi, they brought plain white rice, not sushi rice. It took forever to get the waiters attention and for a period he just disappeared. The drinks sounded better on paper but tasted like a bar tender just learning how to make drink.
Fun and engaging crew at Sumo sushi. Let’s go again
Never was able to be seated because they overbooked themselves and still allowed us to make a reservation. Very disappointed in the whole experience.
My 6-year-old loved the sushi meal.
Nice hibachi restaurant. Fresh sushi. Appropriate portions for the price.
We were so happy to find a place open on Christmas. There was a nice crowd. We were seated immediately. The server was not the most attentive but she was very apologetic. The food was very good and the overall experience was great. I will be back.
Very enertaining. Nice group of staff. Good family get together. Kids love. We did Hibachi where they cook in a grill in frount of you and everyone had fun!
Went for my son's 12th birthday had a great time. We made a reservation for a large party (19). The staff was very accommodating. We got there early so that we were not in the middle of the dinner rush. The chefs were amazing and fun. The food was great. My only complaint was that we spent a lot of money there and they rushed us out to the point of being slightly rude. and the bathrooms were not clean - that is a major fail
Lovely restaurant and great space for a variety of occasions. We went to celebrate a birthday and had a blast. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. Our waitress was good about checking on us and offering helpful suggestions for ordering, but forgot a couple of our requests (more napkins, kid chopsticks) and had to be reminded a couple times. I would highly recommend this place, and we didn't even try the Hibachi side, which sounded and looked like a blast. They even went all out for singing Happy birthday to our friend, complete with a mask, mini-gong, and small crash cymbals, along with deep fried ice cream that was posted nicely. Will definitely go again for another celebration!
A great value for the location, but do not expect to be wow'd by the cuisine. Worn decor and poor acoustics make this a good place for happy hour and little else.
Great food. Felt rushed.
The staff was rude. The food awful. The atmosphere was dirty feeling. I've left such a bad review of a restaurant. This was the worst.
We went for a lunch and was the one best Japanese food that we had tryed! The fish was fresh, everything was delicious, the service was excellent (we loved Miss Tina!) .
The ice cream banana tempura was incredible! I want to came Bach to D.C. and return to this special place again!
This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life!! As soon as I walked in with my fiancé we felt unwanted, and when we sat down it took 15 minutes for a sever to touch the table! And when she did come she was so rude and dismissive! We brushed it off because maybe she wasn't having a good day. But then the food came everything was blend I spent $44 on two bento boxes that didn't even have meat in the sushi. The teriyaki chicken didn't have any sesame seeds and when I asked for some lady told me that it didn't come with sesame seeds and I asked if I could have some and she looked at me like I had asked her for something impossible, she finally got me what I asked for. End of the story I will never come back ever again!
Great place! Best chef, it's a must.
The hibachi tables are your best bet, unless you're getting sushi. Great experience and good food.
Sushi was amazing. Service was not so great.
I eat out at least twice a week, Its been a long time since I've received this type of poor service. I don't write bad reviews for not-so-good service because been in the restaurant business for 15+years, I really understand that we all human, everyone has their bad days, but the experience tonight at sumo was extremely horrible. Decided to come here because my parents-in-law never had the Habachi before and this one is closed to their house, so we have 5 adults and 3 kids, we waited for 15 mins, the waitress came took the drink order and apologize the wait, it's OK, understand, u guys busy! Then the nightmare began when this dude came to take the orders, let's call him 'J', when we told him that my 1.5 yrs old and 3yrs old not gona order, they just gona share ours, he rolled his eyes and shaked his head, I already sensed the rudeness, this really pissed me off, I asked him : u got a problem with that? Then he mumbling something like no, trying to tell us everybody has to order Habachi if we sit at the Habachi table, not just that, he talked bad about us with his coworkers too, why I know, because I understand the language and their local dialect! And over charged for the drinks we didn't order, Anyway, food is good, owners nor managers are very friendly and helpful, but please train your servers, because one failed, will ruin everything that u have builded. But hey 'J', we still end up spending good amount of money , lucky you get the automatic gratuity 18%, otherwise I will just leave u less than 10% just enough for you to tip out your sushi and Habachi chef, u won't get a penny. I'll go back, just to see if the place had improved!!!
Fun time at Sumo. The Habachi chef does a bunch of tricks.
Excellent place for lunch for me and my son who loves Japanese food. Had a good time at the Hibachi tables. Would definitely come back again.
The food was good and the service was good.
Amazing performance by the crew!!
