What Insiders Are Saying
It's summer year round at Summer House Santa Monica. Don your finest Lululemon and chambray in an upscale dining environment.
We absolutely loved the place, the food, and our server Tony! We didn’t feel rushed and he helped us find an excellent bottle of rosé to compliment our brunch. And cookies for dessert were scrumptious!!
Lovely ambiance on a cold winter's day! Wonderful service and exceptional food! I
Had an awesome experience they made my anniversary special as well
Service was fantastic, decent food and drinks!
Loved the simulated breeze! It was a great experience.
One of our favorites in the city! An oasis from the cold chicago winter! This time we brought friends for brunch and everything was delicious: Salmon, Turkey Burger, Home Made English Muffin Egg Sandwich and of course home made cookies for dessert. Our server was a doll and even split the Salmon dish for our friends to share. Can't wait to return!
Just fab! My friend and I had an amazing meal for an excellent price
We are post Steppenwolf regulars here. The staff was slammed and despite having reservations we had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated. On the upside we could not decide between each of two pasta plates. The manager, who had subbed in for a too-busy waitperson, just ordered us both. What a delightful surprise that was. We left very happy. Thanks to that enterprising manager.
Gorgeous space with excellent food, cocktails and even mocktails. We tried one of each. The mushroom appetizer was great. So was the local burratta. We loved the gnocchi. It had a great sauce with a little bit of a kick. The steak frites was also really good. Ice cream sandwich was delicious, fun and huge. Split it between 3 people. Service was excellent. Available but not too available. I felt as if they let us take our time and didn’t rush us from our table. My only complaint which has nothing to do with the food and service was there was way too many little kids in there for dinner on a Saturday night. Toddlers and babies. Don’t go expecting you can find a table that isn’t near children. They were EVERYWHERE!!!
The appetizer was fantastic and the Rose wine our server recommended was delicious. Enjoyed everything we ordered. I didn’t enjoy being seated near the front door in the bar area during a busy night because the noise and activity level of the front waiting area was distracting. Next time I’ll ask for a table in the main dining room.
What a great place to go on a gloomy winters' day. Truly felt like you were transported to California. Really comfortable room, great food, great service.
The atmosphere/view was amazing. But I made a reservation and still had to wait 20 minutes. Felt rushed to get out and very overpriced for what we got to eat and drink.
Very nice place for brunch. It was not that crowded a few minutes after they opened. A lot of people started showing up between 8.30-9. Recommend to all foodies out there
Good scene, good vibe, it was just expensive for what it was
Everything was delicious! Would recommend for any date night or girls night out!
Good good in a comfortable atmosphere was made even better by service that was prompt and efficient without overwhelming. Jenna was great.
Had a wonderful lunch with my daughter. So much sun coming through the glass ceiling it was a sheer delight for mid February! Food was amazing and service was wonderful! We will be back! Best Guacamole and chips we have ever had! And the fish tacos were amazing!
Love the location
It took over 15 minutes to get 4 cocktails on a Monday evening dinner at 6:30. They were also “out of” the Ricky Bobby drink.
Fries were cold. Very disappointed in the whole evening.
We loved it thank you!!
Not as good as it was in the past. Food was not as succulent or well seasoned as in the past. Omelet had less kale/spinach. Hash brown Benedict was overlooked. We will look for other brunch places.
Great food, excellent service in a unique atmosphere.
Overall I was very pleased with my dining experience.
We had issues with our courses coming out to quickly. Before we were a quarter of the way through our starter, the main dish was already out, So it sat there getting cold and we had to ask for new fries before we started eating. The food was good, just felt Very rushed.
great go-to brunch spot. there is something for every taste palette....i have not had a bad meal here
Love it here!!
The service was excellent. The restaurant was bright and sunny and charming. The food was a little disappointed.
Excellent service, incredible food and incomparable ambiance. Love coming back here!
I have two words for you. A. Mazing. We were blown away with the food and atmosphere!! Especially on these chilly winter days in Chicago...a breath of fresh air! The GF menu was incredible and we left feeling full and refreshed! We will definitely return!!
The food is over priced and lacks creative/flavorful touches. An appetizer of chips & guacamole costs $16 which would be justified if it were something beyond standard guacamole and corn chips but alas... This place is always insanely busy which I would typically credit to exceptional food but this neighborhood seems to give birth to rich white people without taste so it’s more likely that you can see and be seen here. Our server was absolutely exceptional (Aimee). She was friendly, energetic, down to earth and struck the perfect balance between being attentive and letting us enjoy our evening.
Overall the place lacks specificity. What about the menu is authentic to Santa Monica? Or the beverages? Or the interior? Or the uniforms?
Always a pleasure to dine at SH. The atmosphere is fun and casual with families and couples and friends. The food is very good, the Cobb Salad is huge! The service is exceptional. Friendly. Attentive. You never feel rushed. Always buzzing in the dining area.
The kale salad is a MUST have!! Restaurant week was fabulous and I have been during regular menus - It's a great relaxing scene to "get away" especially when the weather is crummy!
Stepping out of the Chicago rain into the warm, but so light and airy, main dining room for lunch you would be forgiven for thinking you were in California. We caught the last day of Restaurant Week so I had the set menu special (two choices per course and a 3-choice wine pairing) and it was amazing value, full-sized portions, and excellent quality. My partner had the avocado grilled cheese sandwich and a mocktail, and both were so fresh. Our server, Lindsay, was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and deserves a special mention for her great recommendations, both what is popular and what she actually prefers. It's been a while since I've been so impressed on a first visit that I'm worried we've been spoiled! We'll definitely be back for dinner, and my only regret is that we didn't try this place sooner!
Wonderful atmosphere and the food was delicious. Our server Tony gave the best recommendations.
Got sat, waited to be served for 20 minutes. Had to speak up, think we were forgotten about but they recovered nicely! The service was great, as was the food!
Food and service was wonderful! Will be back again!
Summer House is my go-to spot. I’ve been to SHSM almost every week since moving here about six months ago and have never had a bad time! I recommend the avocado toast, but most things on the menu are good. The cookies are delicious but sooo big
Good food and great cookie desserts! The calamari was especially tasty
The food and service was pretty bad on Monday eve. Not the typical experience at this restaurant. Brussels were soggy and our server never asked how the food was or checked in with us.
We went for lunch and each had a beef burger and a turkey burger. They were tasty. Coffe was good too! $14 valet parking is too much but we are able to find street parking.
