Summer House Santa Monica
At the heart of the open kitchen lies a wood fire grill that is the workhorse of many of Summer House’s menu items. The menu, created by Chef/Partner Jeff Mahin, is California inspired and focuses on market driven ingredients, local and sustainable farming, and seasonal specialties, all complemented by a carefully curated list of California and Pacific North Coast wines.
The Market counter, shared with Stella Barra Pizzeria, offers a variety of our signature fresh-baked pastries, cookies, sourdough English muffins, along with locally sourced coffee and specialty espresso drinks.
No matter the season, no matter the weather, you will be transported to the warmth of California at Summer House.

What Insiders Are Saying
It's summer year round at Summer House Santa Monica. Don your finest Lululemon and chambray in an upscale dining environment.
Visiting from NYC and had opportunity to dine at Summerhouse for a graduation celebration. Everything that everyone had was delicious, without exception. Service was gracious, efficient and not rushed. Terrific restaurant!
18.95 for Cobb salad. Wayyyyyyy over priced for the food.
Had a reservation for Summer House at 7:30PM for an special date, but my table for two wasn't even seated until 8PM. The kitchen messed up one of our pasta dishes AND it came out cold. Our waiter was terrific, though - he made up for all the operational inefficiencies this place seems to be going through. I REALLY do like this place, but this was a terrible experience.
Great place already booked for next month for my anniversary!!!
Food was extremely average for the price and there are far too many tables jammed together
making the noise level unbearable. Nice waiter & the wine was tasty but I won't be returning
any time soon.
This is the second time I’ve had a poor experience at Summerhouse in the past two weeks. Both times the food was not up to par. The service has been inconsistent. But tonight was the final straw. I had a 4-5 oz piece of salmon, which was very dry and fishy, along with a very small dinner salad in a cup, and the meal cost on the menu was $35. This was a $15 meal at best.
I am a big fan of Lettuce Entertain You restaurants and have eaten at Summerhouse many times, but I don’t see going back unfortunately. I hope the food quality and service at their other restaurants doesn’t start to deteriorate.
Ever been a waiter? Well, one should keep water and drinks full. Check on the needs of the table.
Been to Chicago twice in the last few months and frequented Summer House both times, first time for dinner and this time for lunch. Excellent food and love the atmosphere. The server was good, however, I rated him just 3 starts because we constantly felt like he was rushing us even after we told him we wanted to take our time. He also forgot our drinks twice when we were getting refills on wine and we had to remind him. A great experience overall. We will be back and we will recommend to friends.
Best waitress ever. Didn’t get her name but spoke with the manager
We love this place! Go almost once a month. Sadly, the cinnamon rolls we ordered for a Father's Day brunch were very, very dry.
Anwar is an amazing server! He’s informative and gives the best suggestions for food and drinks. Everything was delicious!
Every time I go to Summer House Santa Monica, I instantly feel like I am sitting outside near a beach in California. The only thing missing is a view of the ocean. It is a fun, bright and breezy place to have dinner. And the food matches the ambiance, just wonderful.
Food was amazing. Had the guacamole and the fish tacos. Oatmeal apple cookie was to die for. Along with the horchata latte. The Vitamin D room is so airy and calming. Will definitely be going back.
Loud but food delicious staff great
This was our first time here and we’ll definitely be back, next time we’re in Chicago! It has: 1) really tasty, fresh and vibrant food, 2) fun, creative and refreshing drinks, and 3) a wonderful, natural and airy atmosphere, all with a beachy vibe. We came for dinner, grabbed a head-size cookie from their bakery counter on our way out, and promised ourselves we’d come back. The only issue about dining during peak hours is the parking (which, hey, it’s Chicago), so be prepared to arrive early to park and walk quite a ways, or valet ($14).
It was a hot day (90s), my sister is 9 months pregnant, and took 45 minutes to be seated with a reservation in the cooled part of the restaurant. The waiter/waitress service was outstanding
This place was overpriced for subpar food and honestly the service wasn’t even great. Would only go back for drinks.
Great gggghhh hhhhh
We Love, Summer House! It is such a joyous place to dine. The sun through the glass roof makes one feel they are outdoors. The atmosphere is as bright as the sunshine and the food matches that mood. One of our favorites!!!
First time there and will definitely go back. Met two out of town friends for lunch. We all loved the food and the ambiance. It was like being outside with the comforts of being inside. Service was both excellent and fast. Food was outstanding. I had the salmon burger and my friends both had the soft shell crab sandwich. All were excellent.
Bummed they got rid of the calamari from the menu. The brussel sprouts were just OK but the fresh berata cheese was amazing. I ordered the skirt steak with chimichurri and it was excellent. They are great with my daughter’s food allergies.... milk, egg, wheat, peanuts and tree nuts
The service was amazing. Our salad was over dressed and prepared differently than what I had previously ordered - not the same salad anymore. Wouldn’t order it again. Everything else was well prepared.
Great spot for excellent, healthy fare. Feels like California! Sit in the atrium if you can.
The Ricky Bobby drink and caramelized brussel sprouts were delicious! Our mains dishes were good as well. The ambiance and warm sunny vibes really made our experience wonderful.
Great place! Awesome food, wine, and staff. Summer house rose on tap is a must try! Anna the girl working at the pastry shop is also awesome! I will definitely be coming back.
Food was very fresh. Service was outstanding—among the best ever experienced. Previous week I had tried an Italian special salad with poached egg which I loved. It was not on the menu, but I mentioned it to our lovely waiter from Summer House CA who asked the chef to prepare it. So nice of him...delicious!!
Also had a good selection of craft cocktails and light dry rosewines.
Whole meal was lovely. A neighborhood treat.
Food was great. Our server was attentive and the drinks and ambiance were just what we were looking for. Airy and sexy
I love everything about this restaurant. The ambience and decor cannot be beat. I used to live in Santa Monica and the restaurant evokes the feel to the "T". I love the wine selection and the food. The pan-friend gnocchi was incredible! My only complaint is how basic and bland the children's menu offerings are. A place of this caliber could step it up a bit. I hope they'll consider offering a bit more of a range for children with more flavor, and some more fresh fruit or vegetables included. A fish dish, or something with ethnic flair would be nice. My 3 year old found her "spaghetti and meatballs" super boring, and I agreed.
Great food, beautiful atmosphere, wonderful service!
Great food and the ambient is amazing!!
I love that they allow for Brunch reservations, not many do in the city. The food and ambiance is great. The services is just ok, but the food and ambiance make up for it!
Fantastic meal...Great healthy dinner, and a really good wine list.
We had a reservation for 5 people & they seated us at a table for 4. They told us we could wait 35 minutes for a bigger table but we would have to return to the waiting area because they needed the table back. After 50 minutes, we still hadn’t been seated or even contacted with a status update. We checked with the restaurant next door, Stella Barra, and they had a table for 6 open immediately. They were nice, atmosphere was great & food was delicious. Unlike Summer House where the hostess was pretentious & rude. I’ve had previous bad experiences, but this was the final straw - I won’t be returning.
YUM! Great food and the restaurant feels like you've stepped into a California beachfront restaurant....a welcome feeling during a Chicago winter. Try the avocado toast or burrata sampler.
There were families in there that had kids running around and screaming which was not th experience I excepted. I understand that this is not the fault of Shmmer House but it was just very disappointing as I was trying to have a business meeting.
Very bad experience. Very disappointing. Prices extremely high, food very regular.
I was looking for a nice place to take husband for dinner and this was amazing. It was such a beautiful day, I wanted an atmosphere of being outside and this place was perfect and the food was great.
I love this place! The food is so fresh and clean and the ambience puts you in a great summer mood. However, the food is a bit overpriced.
This is one of the rare times where I’ve just been “meh” or less about a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. Summer House has a great, vacation-y vibe - no question about that. But the menu is nowhere near that exciting, and the food is average at best. And it’s extremely overpriced considering the portion size and mediocrity. We did have a friendly server who was kind enough to comp us some of our desserts when they took forever to arrive; however, he failed to comp our guacamole (free with Yelp check-in), so the net result was still a hefty bill for so-so food that takes a long time to show.
If you’re really just looking for the vibe, Hampton Social is a touch better option.
(Sorry, LEYE. I promise we won’t break up over this.)
