What Insiders Are Saying
It's summer year round at Summer House Santa Monica. Don your finest Lululemon and chambray in an upscale dining environment.
Went for lunch and was not impressed. The prices are very high for what you get—chips & guacamole for $14! And the Chicken Palliard for $23 was basically a grilled chicken breast. I had the Brussel Sprout salad & requested edamame in place of the peas. The server said no problem, but neither were on my salad. It was a very unremarkable salad for $16!! The atmosphere is great—very bright & you feel like you’re on vacation. But the so-so food & prices will make me unlikely to return.
Our new favorite restaurant!!! The food was great the service was outstanding and I felt like I was away on a Caribbean resort! Thanks for a wonderful experience. Lettuce Entertain never disappoints
We’ve had several lovely brunches at Summer House Santa Monica. The most recent experience, while still pleasant, was not quite up to previous experiences. The food was quite good, if underwhelmingly plated. The service was fair, but our server didn’t really seem too interested. We had reservations, but still had to wait. The music was a bassy club mix that was incongruous with a bright brunch room and not great for the available acoustics. I would probably go back, but I would probably look at a few alternative venues first.
What a great experience! The atmosphere is wonderful and the food was so good! We will definitely be back!
Reservation is a must. Delicious desserts too! We loved the atmosphere and easy to make a play at one of the local theaters nearby.
We were celebrating my Birthday there and were wowed by the experience. Next I would like to go with more people to try more of the "dishes to share". Great food, neat ambiance and awesome deserts!
Great food and service would highly recommend this place
I can’t believe how good this place was. Everything from the food and service to the temperature and the ambience was literally perfect. Drinks were amazing. Each dish was just awesome. I think I’m fairly picky and I loved every bite. Ahi tuna tostados, fish tacos, pasta, trout, asparagus—-literally every single thing we ordered was amazing.
I like Summerhouse a lot and go there frequently. I live in Lincoln Park.
On this day I was there with two good friends for lunch. We are all in our 70s but eat out a lot and generally tip very well.
Our server was beyond pushy in trying to get us to eat and “vacate the premises. “ We were in the restaurant for a total of 90 minutes and I know you are busy mid day on Friday, but that doesn’t seem excessive. I believe she stopped by our table 5 or 6 times to see if we would order, if we were finished, to pick up our napkins, etc.
Once you hit your 70s it’s hard not to feel invisible, and this particular server made that feel very real.
As I say, I have never had this experience at Summerhouse in the past.
Great spot for lunch. Server made wonderful recommendations - Maryland crab sandwich, halibut & rose' were delicious! The creme brûlée cookie is a must!!
Terrific environment, great food, and excellent service! Can’t wait to come back for brunch!
I’ve been to Summer House more than a dozen times and this experience was far and away the worst. I had the turkey club and the fries were not warm. My dining companion had the green veggie burger, which she said tasted like nothing and was mushy. The service was slow. Not s good experience.
We celebrated a birthday and a job promotion and the staff was great so was the food
Great lunch spot. I encourage others to visit
Summer House was great. My daughter has a gluten allergy and they have a broad GF menu and seem to take allergies very seriously.
This particular evening they were very busy and a little behind schedule. We sat about 15 minutes after our reservation time and the service was a little off throughout because of the crowds, but our server was great.
The food is delicious and we will be back soon.
Walked in, and then 10 minutes walked out.
Went next door.
Really poor service, attitude, and treatment.
Won't give them my money.
Perfect place to take your wife who happens to be from Orange County CA. Food and service is top notch
Delicious food, fun atmosphere and great service. Especially loved the tuna watermelon tostada appetizer , the fish tacos and the Brussel sprout salad.
Great for Mother’s Day! Very bright and feels like spring
Very small portions and the scallops were like baby size. The service was great!! Drinks were good!
There were 3 of us and we all had wonderful food. It was fresh, just the right amount and cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back, there are many things on the menu that we would all like to try. One time eating here is not enough!
I was surprised of the quality of the food. Better than I expected. Sat at the bar and the bartender mixed some unusual and very good cocktails off of their cocktail menu.
Summer House is a great brunch spot. Beautiful decor and ambiance. Food was delicious and the rose recommended by our server was outstanding. I would highly recommend this spot, but definitely make reservations.
Great food, service and atmosphere! I would recommend this place 100% & I will definitely be going back!
All of the servers were extremely friendly and attentive. They made us feel very welcome with our two young children. Food was great!
We all enjoyed our salads. The Cobb and the kale. The tuna and salmon were delicious. The restaurant is very pretty. Our server could have been in a bad mood bc when we asked for ketchup with our fries she said we never told her we wanted ketchup.
30-minute wait for a table reserved at 12:30pm
Asked about looking at dessert menu when still working on your main
A favorite. Reservations are always a must. The food is fresh and enjoyable. Good choices for wine and drinks. Not overpriced. The service for this visit was outstanding. A vast improvement from previous meals. Come and feel like you are on a vacation.
Customer service needs improvement! Pasta was cold! Our server had attitude when we didn’t want any alcohol. Just not what we had expected
YES!! Everyone should experience the wonderful atmosphere, food, and staff!
Nice space. It was quite chilly in the Vitamin D room. Service friendly and attentive. Food very good, but prices a little too high.
This is the first time in many dinners that we’ve have terrible service. I sat with my two 2 children for 10 minutes before anyone waited on us. The waiter never checked on us. Never asked if our food for good or if we needed anything else. I was waiting to get another glass of wine and waited too long and asked for the check. Mind you this was a 4:30 dinner and we shouldn’t have waited so long.
I went here for a dinner to catch up with an old friend. The menu was full of new but familiar options and the service is what made this trip really memorable. Will definitely be back!
Met a friend at the bar for a late lunch. Bartenders were awesome and attentive. We had a NA drink and one glass of wine. Food was very underwhelming. Had the kale salad. Lacking flavor and all around seasoning. The asparagus had very woody ends, again lacked basic seasoning and was almost raw. My friend said her burger was ok. She can get a better one near her house for $5! For mediocre food our bill was almost $100! Yikes. Not going back and won’t recommend.
My favorite restaurant in Chicago!! Great for all types of occasions. Family dinner, date night and brunch are our favorites! Ever since we moved out of the city this is a must whenever we come to visit!
Best burger and cocktail I've had in a great while! Will for sure return.
Overall ok. Food is not good for dinner. Have heard otherwise for brunch.
Great experience as always
Food was fantastic. A little pricey but so, so good. Service was good as well. Will go back. So many good gluten free options.
I had a very bad experience at Summer House and will not be back. We had a reservation, but were sat in the bar. Ordered the guacamole (very good). Children’s turkey meatballs tasted metallic and the kids were done with dinner well before the appetizers I ordered for dinner came out. My crab cakes were heavily breaded (why?) and Brussels sprouts were oddly flavored as well.
Beyond that, the prices were shocking to me. Lettuce restaurants are usually priced appropriately, but when I saw $29 fish tacos, I was shocked. If there is something special about them then the menu better use some extra words to justify the sticker shock.
The space is beautiful and I know people love it for brunch, but will not be back.
