Summer House Santa Monica
The menu is California inspired and focuses on market driven ingredients, local and sustainable farming, and seasonal specialties, all complemented by a carefully curated list of California and Pacific North Coast wines.
The Market counter, shared with Stella Barra Pizzeria & Wine Bar, offers a variety of our signature fresh-baked pastries, cookies, sourdough English muffins, along with locally sourced coffee and specialty espresso drinks.
Even though the restaurant was half full the service was a bit slow. We had to ask twice for two go containers for example.
Food and service was great as usual.
Beautiful decor. Light and bright. Food disappointing especially among caliber of restaurants in Chicago. Great margarita but $16 was excessive. Also $16 burger plus $1 for cheese was excessive. Food was nothing special (think Applebees) but salads looked like more upscale options. Will try again for brunch but definitely not dinner.
A lovely setting for dinner. A great spot to go before seeing a play at Steppenwolf or the Royal George Theatre, both of which are 3 blocks away.
Summer House was just a little bit less than dazzling today. First time that's happened.
Our server was fantastic! Sadly it was pretty empty due to the current situation, but definitely worth going or ordering from here!
My favorite restaurant in Lincoln Park and maybe all of Chicago! So gorgeously decorated inside with the best Cali vibe and the food is always delicious! Best cookies ever!
All was great
We had a wonderful time once we met our server; however, as we approached the hostess stand when we arrived, the hostess greeted us without ever looking up from her screen and with a very uninterested voice. Like a machine, she asked us how we were doing, but when we answered and asked in return, she ignored us. To top it off, she sat us by the coffee maker, away from others when far better tables were available. I wouldn't NOT come back because of this, but I can't say I'll be rushing back when other venues offer more welcoming customer service. Our waitress, Tess, was wonderful though!
Great spot for lunch, good food amazing service! Will be going back for sure.
Wish the menu was more varied
Soooooo Sloooowwwww, good service at the table to the customer but would never return with what we need and food took probably 45 minutes to come out that ridiculous
Great ambiance, perfect for a day time lunch/brunch and a drink. 2 out of the 4 items were great. The other 2 simply needed more flavor
Be prepare to wait. Even with a reservation.
Every time we visit Chicago, we have to visit Summer House for brunch! Such a beautiful restaurant and the service is always exemplary! Always recommend this to friends visiting.
Came to celebrate a late lunch for my bday. That atmosphere is Amazing, I was happy the minute I step foot (so bright and airy!) Food was a little pricey for the skirt steak and fries but when I got my birthday cookie and ice cream, it was like having a little piece of heaven! I highly recommend dining for the atmosphere and service, it's superb! The prices could be a little more reasonable, but the ambiance alone makes it worth it and of course the BAKERY! Will definitely go back!
Great atmosphere and vibe, quick service, good food, would prefer it if more flavorful. We tried their egg benedict with salmon, Acapulco omelette, hash brown with peppers. The egg benedict was good, the omelette and hash brown were a bit bland.
Would come back for the atmosphere.
We made a reservation for 8:30 and didn’t get seated until almost 9:10. Granted, we did show up at 8:35. The hostess was very short with us and did not explain anything that was going on. When we were seated, we were finally able to catch up, talk etc. The waiter came over several times seeming like we need to hurry up and order. Once we did order we never saw our waiter again. We sat with the same glasses, empty, that we ordered from the bar while we were waiting. We finally flagged down another waiter and got 1 drink before we left(1 drink for all 4 of us). Overall, it was a poor experience, food was half decent and service was very poor. We have been wishing to come to Summer House for over a year. Now we probably won’t come again.
We had to wait for 45 minutes
We had a dinner reservation at 7:30 and didn't sit until 8:20. If you are on a schedule, I can't recommend
Steak frites were just okay. Bucatini was great! Cocktails are great. Only downfall is that the restaurant is so congested if you aren’t seated in the actual main dining room. Great spot all around!
Went with my two daughters and one of her friends ages 19 to 21 very trendy place and they enjoyed it but would not rush back. Place was really pretty and had a nice table so atmosphere was the best part of the evening. Food was just OK and expensive for what we got but of course the drinks were really pricy. I ordered a martini and the waiter asked me what keep of vodka so I stated whatever maybe Tito which is a basic vodka and when the bill came he up charged me a additional $3 so one Martin was $16 and it was small.
Anyway the girls enjoyed it and was glad we went.
My friend and I celebrated our pharmacy school graduation! The restaurant was beautiful and the food was DELICIOUS.
I was in town for work and we got recommended this restaurant.
The service was probably the worst I have ever had anywhere. Our waitress was rude and treated my table like we were nobody. I will not go back for this reason.
I had a coworker that down syndrome and could not order himself. She looked at me in disgust. truly awful
Great place for lunching with friends. Enjoyable atmosphere, food, service, and Rosé.
It was great. I loved the ambiance.
The butternut squash soup was definitely the highlight of our meal. The rest of the food was good, the tofu tacos were very interesting and tasty. Wish they had a larger selection of entrees. Wine seemed slightly overpriced so we opted for cocktails instead which were just fine. Our server was very attentive and did a good job at keeping our glasses full at all times. They sent a complimentary dessert to help us celebrate our special occasion. Definitely will return.
We had a great time! Tasty food and fun cocktails. We loved the bright, laidback feel of the restaurant.
overall an okay experience- i had a reservation at 8 and was not seated until 8:30, this seems to be common here as it happened the the only other time i’ve been here too. i was then seated at arguably the worst table in the entire restaurant (by the drafty window right next to the hostess table so there are constantly people standing a foot from the table). drinks were good as were apps. entrees were okay but nothing to write home about and overpriced for what they are ($18 for a fried fish sandwich?!). our total bill was $80 for two cocktails, an app and two entrees - pro tip ❗️ if you sign up for the email list online, they send you a $25 voucher - this was the only reason we went a second time.
overall i’d maybe recommend going for brunch/lunch over dinner but be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes even if you have a reservation.
I made the reservation a couple of weeks prior and even called the week before to specify it was a birthday and we wanted a booth. We arrived over 45 minutes early with the intention of having a drink next door. I checked in with the hostess and reiterated my request. 5:30 came and went. I checked with her several times and she kept saying they’ll be a table soon ... it was after 6pm by the time we were seated. I’m not sure if you had too many reservations or what but waiting that long was unacceptable. In addition she was not very friendly and didn’t really seem to care how long we waited. The dinner was delicious and our waiter great but there needs to be something done about the wait.
Real California vibes. Good variety on the menu but kind of pricey. Would go back
Great breakfast! Fresh and delicious!!!
Good food. Creative and tasty.
Favorite lunch spot.❤️
The decor was lovely and the food was exactly as expected from a LEYE restaurant.
Love the ambience. It is like taking a trip to California, especially nice in Chicago winter. Our server was exceptional.
Its very bright and cheery. The waiter was great. Just enough. The food is good. The chairs are comfy for a while.
It’s one of our favorite restaurants. We went on our first date here and are now married. We come back every year on our date anniversary.
I love the ambience.
Excellent Beet Salad and the Idaho Trout was cooked to perfection
