Great place for anyone and everyone
We were celebrating my birthday with children. The kids menu was awesome and the birthday cookie with ice cream and candle was really yummy and nice! We ordered additional vanilla ice cream that was amazing and desserts. The atmosphere was awesome-felt transported to another place. So relaxing...never felt rushed. Surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night. Dinner and mocktails were fabulous!
We really enjoyed our meal this night! Being from Southern CA, this atmosphere definitely hit close to home. The server suggested the Salmon starter which was light and delicious. The scallops were very flavorful yet the plating was a bit interesting for this particular dish. We would gladly order each dish we had again. Server was very attentive and friendly. Very happy to have spent my birthday dinner here. Will be back!
Overall it was decent. The lady who was seating us was a little rude. But besides that we had a very nice waitress and the atmosphere was lively. The bill was a little overpriced but besides that it wasn’t a bad experience. Might come back for the coffee again.
Took my son for a birthday brunch. The food was terrific. The atmosphere was bright and lovely. But, the service was exceptional. Haven’t had such good service in a very long time!
Always have a lovely time here. Great service. Good drinks and interesting menu. Options for everyone.
Love everything about it. Just love the atmosphere and the lighting there!
Summer house is best for brunch. Whether a casual meal or a bigger group get together, it’s always a win.
First visit to meet a previous co worker for breakfast. Great open atmosphere with delicious breakfast menu. We all enjoyed are food and were able to hold conversations without a lot of distracting noise. Highly recommend.
Booked a reservation for 8pm, and didn’t get seated until 845. Then our appitizer took another 20 minutes and we decided to leave. When telling telling the manager that we were leaving she asked us, “who should I discipline?” We consider that question a summary of our experience- poor.
Waiter was fabulous, wonderful energy for my mother in law’s birthday. Good food as always
We chose this restaurant as it was re ommended and a good location. No matter what your favorite entrees are, they have a variety to choose from. Everything was tasty and beautifully presented. Pretty ambiance and good service.
Everything was good
The food is so good and so healthy. I loved my brussel sprout salad, though the salmon portion with it was fairly small. Eh, allowed me to save room for dessert! Mmmm, sea salt chocolate chip cookie. Our waitress Mallory provided excellent menu recommendations and was overall super helpful and nice. I love the decor/ambiance too. Feels like a nice escape from a Chiago winter! Lastly, thank you for having mocktails! Us mamas can still feel like we're having something special. Yay!
One of the pastas was extremely salty. I wish the chef would use a little less salt.
Always happy when we go Summer House. Yum 😋
Always enjoy brunch here!!!
We always enjoy our visits to Summer House for both special occasions and Sunday brunch. The service is always outstanding, you just couldn't ask for a better group of waitstaff. Sometimes we need to wait past our reservation time, but we sometimes grab a cocktail or enjoy the fresh water while we wait.
My wife, daughter and I had lunch the other day. Food was very good, well prepared and healthy. Not large portions which is okay with us when food quality is high. My wife had a slight problem with her meal's preparation. After we told the server, one of the manager's came over almost immediately, apologized and said they would remove her entree from the bill. We would have been fine with that alone. However, after finishing we went around the corner to the terrific baked goods counter and ordered two items. When time to check out for those two, the manager let us know those would be on the house as well. Wasn't necessary or expected in our view, but impressed us they went above and beyond to make things right after a small snafu. Our daughter lives in the area as a Depaul student, and we certainly plan to return in the future. A side note -- the delicious s'more brownie in my hand had gawkers commenting and wondering where I got it, as I walked down the street.
Bad food overrated
We eat here about 1x a month. The good is always good but pricey. Make a reservation.
Lively restaurant, perfect for casual birthday lunch with friends! Make sure to snag a rice krispie cookie on the way out!
Delicious and chic!
This was a very disappointing experience. Usually Summer House is much better than it was. None of the dishes were that impressive and the service was nice but slow and in more of a disarray (getting wrong dishes, used plates not getting cleared, wine not being poured or glasses served with wine until we asked, etc)
The wait staff was excellent about making sure that we could make our show at Steppenwolf and the valet let us keep our car there the entire time. Great pre theater dinner!
We had a 1 pm reservation and had to wait 40 minutes for a table. The taller brown haired hostess was incredibly rude, perhaps she should be placed in a position where she does not speak to the public. The food was ok, however the food was served on chipped plates and when we pointed out that out the staff they did not remedy the situation. We received an attitude of "what do you want me to do about that". The entire experience was not representative of the LEY brand.
The food was uninspired to say the least. Scallops overdone, chickpea fritters mushy, medium-well beef was dripping red. First glass of sparkling wine was tepid. Thought maybe that was on purpose but second glass was ice cold. Service was friendly but quite slow. I had heard many good things about SH so I was really surprised at how blah it was. Underwhelmed.
Great food with even better decor! Love the vibe you get at summer house! All guests were happy with their meals!
Went here on New Year's Day with some friends. We had to wait a little past our reservation time, but we ended up with the best booth! Service was very good and the food was absolutely delicious. Fish taco platter, steak with chimichurri sauce, Burger, and I had the grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup. The soup was absolutely fantastic! Everyone loved their meal and the cocktail menu was really good. Had the drink with the gin and elderflower and violet liqueur which was fantastic.
The food is always good and as usual the service was terrific. Just loud.
Went there on NYE...service was rushed because they wanted us out.
Really nice ambiance and service (feels like you're in California), but overpriced for the food quality.
love this place, always a good meal
Summerhouse is great no matter the occasion. A date, meeting friends, family, coworkers. The staff is always so professional and the food is always delicious. The serving could have been a little bit bigger but maybe the food was just soooo good I wanted just a few more bites.
Lots of missing items from the menu. Ordered the burrata and it was like nothing I’ve ever had. Very watery. Based on the missing items and the failed attempt at burrata my guess is they’ve lost their chef and trying to get back in solid footing. Service was good albeit at the end of the night very rushed. We had an 8pm reservation and at about 9 were told there was 7 minutes before the kitchen closed to order dessert. We ordered the cookie with ice cream and it was good. Overall disappointing to have taken out of town guests to this place.
The food and service was very good. Had reservation following theater matinee. Was seated right away. Unfortunately, next to kitchen entrance and twice busser dropped dishes. Also was at banquet as a party of 2. Next to us was party of 4. Of course they had to talk across (not their fault)and between the kitchen and them we couldn’t hear each other so we didn’t stay for dessert. Next time will request a table or in the bar area. We had the crab dumplings (crab ragoon) to share, scallops and trout entrees. All very good.
Lovely atmosphere, yummy menu & attentive service
Very very disappointed they took the prime rib French Dip sandwich off the menu...also, they changed their French fries which are not nearly as good as they used to be😞
Fabulous food, service and environment!
my first visit to summer house was this summer after my grandsons graduation from Northwestern.
I just loved it.
Decided to choose it for brunch to c
elebrate my sister and her husbands 50th anniversary---just her brothers and sisters.
We went to Mass at Old St Pat's in Chicago and to brunch----wonderful!
It lively, fun and the service was great. We also bought delicious bread from their bakery.
