Summer House - North Bethesda
Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

Service was sub-par, at best. I don't like to write negative reviews, given that I work in the service industry. The server greeted us and started by saying "do you guys want anything or do you just want some time? you know drinks or anything?" He walked away, brought back the coffee with cream my step dad ordered, without a spoon or plate or anything. He then asked me to repeat my order three times. It still came out wrong. I ordered fried egg whites and instead got eggs over hard. I informed him and he said "oh, um, like, do you want them remade or what?" No. I stopped you for nothing. Just to let you know you suck at your job. He went to have them remade and I finished everything on the plate, except the eggs, and my remade eggs still hadn't arrived. I waited a few more minutes before stopping someone and asking for a manager. This person was a manager. He was very polite and helpful. He told me that the food would be out shortly and even though I told him I didn't want it anymore, he still boxed it for me. It was my step dad birthday, which I noted in the reservation. The server, after the manager brought back the boxed food. Came and dropped the check - no mention of dessert, no questions about how everything was, overall very obviously uninterested. Honestly, I know service staff mocks bad reviews, so go for it. Maybe you were having an off day or something? Either way, this place is too overpriced to have such average service staff.
We love, love, love Summer house for its personable service and great food. DanRay is the BEST server ever. We will definitely return.
The food and service were great. Appetizers and entrees came out at a good pace
They messed up the order in which we got our food and then they said they would take care of an appitizer but when the check came, they tried to get me to pay for it
Good ambiance, great service, below average food and small portions especially for the price
The salmon was excellent. The tortillene was dry. The squash soup was good. Service was excellent, Like all open architecture styles with bare floors and ceilings and exposed kitchens, it was noisy.
Love decoration and the green tea is the best great
They have a good brunch menu and their bakery items are to die for
Wasn’t impressed by summer house the last few times I went but was pleasantly surprised again today!! Got the chicken Cobb salad and it was very good. We had a reservation and they were behind so we got sat a little late but otherwise great service and the kitchen was quick which it hasn’t been the past few times. I think they’re picking it up again to make it the restaurant it was when it first opened.
Was amazing. The food was delicious. The server was delightful. The overall experience was just what we were looking for.
Good service and appreciate the willingness to make substitutions on the sides. We both had the trout which was good.
We had excellent food and service for a birthday dinner. I had the salmon on the recommendation of the server and t was fantastic.
The food was good but the service was terrible. The waiter forgot to bring out a gluten free menu, then forgot the salads, then forgot to bring out coffee with our dessert.
I love everything about Summer House! Food was delicious. Ambience was great. Service was perfect. Definitely making this spot my Friday night and Sunday noon restaurant.
Good food but rather pricey. Better deals for price and overall quality at happy hour.
Although our hamburgers were not cooked properly, the restaurant immediately corrected the issues. I have had much more positive experiences in prior visits so I would visit Summer House again.
Good food and great atmosphere - really enjoyed my lunch.
Very accommodating by seating our party as they arrived. Service was just attentive enough to not interrupt our conversations but take and serve our orders during a business lunch. salads and sandwiches (gluten-free bread!) were tasty although salads were huge for lunch.
Summer House has a nice combo of good food and nice ambiance - a great place for brunch with family and friends
Great food, great service. Excellent lunch place for work or social outing.
Very disconcerting dining experience due to water flowing from ceiling into dining room. Lots of hustle and bustle to evaluate problem and remediate
The family and I enjoy eating at Summer House. The food is always delicious and the dessert are to die for
The food was good but not great. We had brussels sprouts and squash soup appetizers, and roast chicken and salmon mains. Everything was good but nothing was outstanding. Nice, upbeat looking place if you like light colors and an open layout. Large bar with a tv. Fine for dinner if you're near Pike & Rose and just looking for a place to go but we liked Perch better. Probably won't return.
Great food, great service. 😊
Always a nice brunch experience with great service and beautiful ambiance
The food was not great, bland at best. Will not be returning
It's a very nice setting and the food was very good.
The service was attentive and low key which I like.
The menu changed from last I was there and I didn't like anything on it. The table they saved for us was in a corner too which was near the window and it was cold.
I gave this restaurant an ok because I asked for a gluten free menu since I'm gluten sensitive (yes it's a thing) and ordered the turkey club but what I had received was the regular version with the 9 grain bread. I started eating it only to realize this tastes too much like actual bread for it to be gluten free. I asked my server if this was gluten free and she said "oh did you have the gluten free menu"? Well, yes, since you were the one that handed it to me. I got a sorry from server but I was really impressed by the manager who asked me how my health was and if I needed anything and they comped my meal. The server got off easy since I don't have Celiac Disease and just a sensitivity or else I could have been extremely sick. I hope next time the servers are more aware of their patrons requests. I also was with my pregnant friend and they sat us at a high top table with hard bar stools. :/
A very nice evening. Had to wait about 30 minutes before my table was ready. The service was great.
Went to brunch on MLK day - service, atmosphere, and food was great. Always liked Summer House, but the menu and service have only improved over the last year-plus. Also, the gluten free options are really awesome here and keeps me coming back.
Best eggs and bacon and French toast EVER!!! And of course it’s beautiful inside. Thanks so much. Though I will say the time it took to get my cappuccino was so long and the presentation could be better. Comparable to the rest of the place it looked thrown together and ugly and it’s way too small
We love Summer House. This was our third visit and our first time for brunch. The restaurant was crowded and lively although we had no trouble have a conversation. The food choices were plentiful - breakfast and lunch items. The Cobb salad was beautiful as well as tasty and the hash brown eggs benedict was excellent. Our waitress was very sweet but slow and a little forgetful. Although it was really busy and she was probably a little overwhelmed. Overall we had a wonderful visit with friends in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere.
The food was horrible, the service was worse. Our waiter disappeared after taking our order and we didn't see her again until desert when we made sure to ask for the check because we thought otherwise it would take forever to get it. My appetizer came out after everyone else's and my husband's french fries were ice cold. Rarely do I give such bad reviews but it was truly a horrendous dinner
This is how a restaurant should operate. When we arrived, we were asked to wait past our reservation time while patrons finished up and the table was cleaned. It took a bit longer than I would have liked (a little over 15 minutes) but the restaurant was both apologetic and gracious, and offered our table a complementary appetizer as compensation. The appetizer (mini ahi/watermelon tostadas) was delicious and, more importantly, set a good tone for the rest of the meal. Otherwise, the place is open and attractive and the food is great. Or server was friendly (but not fake waiter over-friendly), informed, and funny - even enhanced the meal. And the ice cream sandwich is a really excellent dessert! Overall a great night, thanks to restaurant management and kitchen and service staff.
It was Bethesda Restaurant week, so they offered a prix fixe menu. My wife had the salmon, I had the burger. Both were excellent, my cocktail was very interesting, and the service was just right. This is our second time at this restaurant, both were excellent.
Excellent service wonderful waitress.
Really friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Great service, nice food. A place to go chill with a good friends
Menu has changed so what you order comes in differently, but it’s not specified on the menu. The girl serving us is bad news. Second time she messes up so bad on our orders. Once food was made again, it was burned.
