Our first visit to Summerhouse. Food was excellent! Service was terrible, our waiter was terrible. Ordered Bloody Mary’s and waited for a quite a while before he came back and said can’t have them before 10am (they are listed on the breakfast menu). Asked about the Mexican Hashbrowns and he described them as “Mexican” and nothing else. They are fabulous by the way. Ordered cappuccinos since no Bloody Mary’s, he brought them with no sugar/Splenda etc and no spoons. Again after waiting a while my husband went inside to get sugar and spoons. Didn’t check on us and they were not that busy yet. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Food was outstanding.
I love the atmosphere and food at this restaurant. However, EVERY time I have gone here for a weekend brunch the service is bad. The coffee is always cold and that's before I have to wait another 10-15 minutes to get sugar on the table and/or cream and/or a spoon. Hot coffee is a MUST as well as serving it with the accessories. Please work on it!
Took the kids for my daughter's birthday. She is a vegetarian and there were plenty of good options. Everyone loved their meals. Service was good as well. We will be back.
Our waiter was unpleasant. If I go again I will request for a different waiter
I've eaten at this restaurant before and had an issue with food timing, but the service and food were great. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time. The service was very slow and the server rarely came back to the table to see if we needed anything. The food was mediocre, especially for the price (poke cups had miniscule pieces of salmon for $14.95). Food visibly sat under warmer lights for 15 minutes while the rest of the meals were being cooked, then when served to us, the meal was cold. After expressing concerns to the manager, he kindly comped the entire bill, which was nice customer service. What put a really bad taste in my mouth, and what will prevent me from going back, is that the server confronted my husband as we were leaving about our issues and debated about the service.
The food at Summer House is always interesting and very tasty. They have an impressive Gluten Free menu as well.
Very basic food items, small selection and over priced. The establishment is solely focused on maximizing profits.
Our third visit. Great food and service, as always. We appreciate the healthy menu.
I have been to Summer House at Pike & Rose about 10 times now - it never disappoints. This particular time we were celebrating a dear friends' birthday. The handcrafted cocktails are delicious - our entire party had the Pomelo Fresco and it was light and refreshing. We shared the guacamole and chips which were delicious - we were a bit confused by the teeny tiny salsa accompaniment but were not bothered by it. Three of us had the Poke Bowls and two of us had sandwiches and we were all pleased with our meals. Our waitress brought out a huge warmed Birthday Cake cookie topped with ice cream and a candle for all of us to share - such a nice gesture. I will continue to return to Summer House - one of my faves!
I specifically came to have the amaxing and delicious impossible burger. But instead found they had switched to the beyond burger. It was okay but not nearly as good as the impossible burger. Summer House - please switch back ASAP!
Summer House is one of my favorite restaurants. I like being able to see the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. You know your meal is right off the stove. Excellent salads and main dishes.
The restaurant and its patrons have a trendy feel. The food was very good - everyone in our party enjoyed their dishes. The service was pleasant, but the wait for the food was pretty long for a Tuesday night.
Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. The Pike and Rose neighborhood is very charming.
Good service. Great food. Dining room seemed emptier than usual perhaps due to the weather. Would have been nice to get a 10am reservation for brunch instead of 915 especially due to the low turnout when we left. Also when calling the restaurant was told there were only 0800 and noon reservations available (called 48 hours in advance) but open table had 830, 845, 900 and 915 available for table of 6. Booked the 915.
Great brunch spot! The food was great and the interior was so aesthetically pleasing. The service was good and the food came quickly. The menu for lunch and dinner also looks so good- I will definitely be coming back!
Graduation celebration with family members
Our server was not very attentive or helpful with questions about the menu. It was very loud and we have trouble carrying on a conversation.
Wonderful place to bring friends and family. Enjoyed the food service and ambiance.
It was great. I’ll be back.
The avocado toast is great! I was a little disappointed with my Bloody Mary; it was a bit watery, but that probably won’t stop me from coming back one day.
Good tasting food with a clean and bright setting
This is the same review I left on yelp. Summer House has reached out, however I’m not inclined to return due to allergy safety concerns.
I will preface this review by stating that my only other experience at Summer House was fantastic. We were there for brunch and had the ahi tuna sandwich and the grilled chicken sandwich and both were delicious. Understandably, we went back again for brunch and ordered the prime burger and the mexican hashbrown. To start, we were brought the turkey burger instead of the prime burger, which we found out after having taken a bite. Side review, turkey burger patty was dry, and over dressed with pickles. This order also had a food allergy warning which was clearly communicated to the server. This restaurant has a policy whereby they flag orders with food allergies with a labeled skewer. It is very concerning how they could mix up an order so badly, yet still include the allergy safe skewer, which indicated to us that the food is safe when it was clearly the wrong order.
The mexican hashbrown was very thick and dense. The cheese that was supposed to be melted on top of it had formed a solid piece. The sunny side up egg was undercooked and still had a layer of stringy egg whites. The ranchero sauce was cold, and was very bland. Instead of crispy potatoes and warm eggs, I got a starchy lump topped with dried cold cheese and undercooked eggs.
In summary, they do some things well, and other things very very very poorly. Service is hit or miss as evidenced by the wrong order we got. Probably will not go back since there are so many other great options around the area. Summer House needs to address some very serious issues.
had a delicious meal with a group of friends for a birthday celebration and the drinks were fantastic and meals delicious. The brussel sprouts and the onion rings were to die for!
We had a 7:30 reservation and didn’t get seated until 8:10. The kitchen ran out of the special item of the day. It was so loud that we couldn’t talk until most of the restaurant filed out. Not worth the money or experience
Friendly staff and lovely if loud atmosphere, but the food service was insanely slow especially for an easy to make brunch order on a busy but not super crowded day. Several of us got the french toast and found it to be so sickeningly sweet we couldn't get past the first slice, felt like I had just eaten candy for brunch. We could have all shared one plate of it and then gotten something savory to cut the sugar. Also it was odd that instead of just bringing a creamer jar of milk for coffee they first brought it in little metal condiment containers, next it was brought out as a partially filled glass which was just messy to pour. The kids menu is great, especially for my picky eater.
I love Summer House. I’ve been here serval times with family and friends and it’s always quality food and great service.
Totally a win for anyone, especially during the weekend for Brunch.
Good food! Fast service!
It is always nice to sit outside and this restaurant has that option. Servers were very nice and attentive. Food is fine but not as good as True Foods in Bethesda. Menu always looks good but I find I am disappointed with the execution of some of the dishes.
We eat here somewhat regularly and have always enjoyed it. It always has both excellent food and service. But the music was so intrusive on our most recent visit that we couldn’t wait to leave. It was so loud we couldn’t hear each other talk, and that was after it was turned down. The selection of music, a type of dance house music, served to focus the volume right on your nerves. If this is the new normal, sadly, we won’t be returning. I hope this was simply a temporary operational glitch.
The food was excellent and staff was caring and catered to all our need. Also, the food was fresh and still hot when it came to the table. The wait time was not long before the food arrived at our table. Waiter was excellent!
The food was ok, our server was the worst with customer service. We ended up getting a gift card and comp’d dessert and appetizers for how extremely frustrated I was. It was our first time there.
Wonderful restaurant! I loved the atmosphere, it was bright, modern and fun. Attentive and friendly customer service. The food was delicious and the location is perfect. Totally recommend for casual and formal get togethers.
We had a wonderful anniversary brunch. We could not have selected a more appropriate place for our special day.
Great service, great food! Overall happy with my first time at Summer House. Would defiantly make a trip back!
The experience was very “meh.” While the food was decent (except for the tepid coffee, which was maddening), the service was substandard. We had a patronizing, snooty (yes, snooty) server who eeked out fake hospitality who was inattentive and absent for most of our meal. We got more attention from his colleagues who observed us fervently looking out for our server. I would not recommend this place to a friend. There are far too many better options in the DC area (or even within walking distance of Summer House). I’m sorry I chose it.
Pleasant atmosphere to enjoy brunch with friends. Decor will transport you out of congested DC area straight to Santa Monica! Nice selection of menu items. Their take on avocado toast was very tasty; wonderful applewood smoked bacon on the side; accommodating wait staff. A bit noisy for conversation, but could still be heard across the table. Convenient parking across the street. Nice spot in Pike & Rose. Would return if in the neighborhood and wanted a bite.
One of my favorites, but off their game last night. Loosely rolled sushi, no appetizer plates, empty wine glass, dry chicken sandwich with a burnt bun, and not great service.
The food, waitstaff, and ambiance at Summer House are all great! I particularly like eating outside there when the weather allows. I'm less enthusiastic about the dinner menu - prefer lunch - and it can get really loud there during dinner time also.
This restaurant has a fresh clean look with coordinating menu items. Love the vibe! Always pick Summer House when we're in the area. Would recommend to anyone who wants a casual setting with great food and beverages. Also the pastry case is amazing!
