Summer House - North Bethesda
Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

I love Summer House, but I always walk away feeling as if there isn’t much on the menu that I want to order. I was looking for a veggie/impossible burger on the menu, but there was none. Instead, there were three different beef burgers listed. No grilled chicken sandwich. I had to ask if I could get some bread. Then, I had to ask for butter. The portions were small given the price. I left with a sense that the restaurant is pinching pennies. Our service was great and the food came out quickly. The best part of going to Summer House is visiting the bakery!
Beautiful day sitting outside. Our server was amazing. She made great recommendations and everything was delicious.
Went for lunch. Waited 40 minutes for our meals. Had 2 turkey sandwiches which the toast was burned. Also had hash brown potatoes which were soaking in oil and burned!
I have been eating here every Sunday since pike and rose opened. I enjoy the staff and they recognize me and are very kind and curtious. However, the quality and portion of the food is decreased significantly this summer. Is as if someone made a decision to make more money from the loyal customers and give less.
The area is getting more restaurants as it expands. Your management should be careful about getting greedy and cutting corners.
All food was too salty (and I really liked to lay on the salt). We had the lobster mushroom noodles (too salty and incredibly fishy like it had fish sauce in it), the poke lettuce appetizer (so incredibly salty), and the tater tots with lemon aioli (tots delicious but already had so much salt that the probably normal amount of salt pushed me over the edge here). The lemon aioli was very good and the best part of the meal.
Service was great even though it was incredibly busy. Ambiance is awesome but it would have beeni nice to have a candle on the outside tables after it got dark.
Overdone burger, tasteless tuna, and expensive short pour of wine. Used to be much better.
Usually love this place, things were off tonight. Service was mediocre, drinks too tart and the halibut was very dry. We watched it sit while the expediter motioned for the servers to get their food. Waited 6 minutes until the waitress returned with cream and honey for my tea. Disappointed.
Menu has dropped some favorites, but what is on offer is still quite good. For some reason this time the service was unusually slow. Took about 20 minutes for meal to arrive. Manager was kind enough to take our favorite cookies off the bill after we waited nearly 15 minutes for them to be warmed. They usually do etter.
The food was well cooked, good wine selection, great for medium to large parties, and the service was great. Our server was courteous, attentive, and conversational.
Food was a bit slow to come out. But other than that, it was great service by Regina and food by the kitchen!
Celebrated baby’s birthday!
We went for my birthday. Other than acknowledging the birthday at check in, nothing else was mentioned or done. I didn’t have high expectations but what was the point in asking?
The service was pitiful. All dishes were late and/or wrong, and dishes were brought to us at varied times. For example, we waited for our drinks an inordinate amount of time. We were then served an appetizer to share but no extra plates were provided until we asked. Moreover, we were served the main fish but our sides came out minutes later.
Lovely ambience.... Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was was pretty good. Would def come back!
Over-priced and timing if service was way off, but the ambiance is really nice.
My wife’s order was wrong twice which is pretty disappointing for a sandwich that doesn’t seem so complicated to get right.
Mine was at least good even though portion size seems to have changed
I went there to celebrate my birthday with friends on a Saturday night. Our servers switched halfway through the dinner and the original server didn’t notify us. Our order was incorrect. Not likely to return.
Messed up our order. Hostess took forever even though it wasn’t packed. I don’t intend on coming back.
The food was excellent and the service was great.
This is my second visit and I’m just not enamored with the food. My friend and I each had a ribeye and they were both very fatty and very rare when we ordered medium rare. The cauliflower mash was tasteless but the spinach was good. The coffee was very watery... not strong at all.
I wouldn’t go here again. It’s an attractive dining room and the service was great but the food was very mediocre- especially for the price.
Always a good time
Summer house is a great find! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the atmosphere, ambiance, food and service - all top-notch!
Saturday night not the best time to go to SH. Things were very busy and although our wait staff was attentive, she was dividing her time among lots of tables. The food was good....three of us had the double burger sandwich.
Our visit on Friday evening a 6:30 was the least crowded and least noisy we have ever seen it.
Service was great and the food was amazing
We had to wait over 40 minutes for our salad entree. Also, the food didn’t taste as flavorful as the last time I was there.
Nice location with good outdoor seating. Food is good, not great, with a limited set of options to choose from. Service is always friendly and generally prompt.
Celebrated our daughters 18th bday. It was my daughters choice. The food was delicious. Everyone loved their meal. They brought out a special dessert for my daughter and we sang happy birthday. It was a confetti cookie with a scoop of this amazing vanilla ice cream. The only downside was our daughter wanted to sit outside and all they could do was seat the 5 of us at a table for 4. There were still many empty tables and I asked if they could put 2 tables together but the hostess said no because they will need the tables for the dinner crowd. We were a bit crowded with 5 at a table for 4. Was hoping they would of been a bit more accommodating.
The server was just odd. She told us that she wants to go in to politics and that she does not like people from corporate offices. Well, we happen to work in a corporate office. Then halfway through our meal she disappeared and it too 30 minutes to get a second round of beverages which were brought to us by a different server. That different server closed out our check, we never saw our server again...until we were walking out of the restaurant and saw she was bartending at the bar. Just odd. And you should know she was down selling the menu, telling us not to get the pasta or chicken because they are not good...chicken is dry and only Italian restaurants make good pasta and Summer House is not an Italian restaurant. Very bizarre. And I was bringing 4 ppl with me for a business meal when they had never been to your restaurant before, not a good first impression. Thankfully the food was amazing as always. Thought you should know.
Food was excellent and the portion size was very good.
The menu is unique for the area. It was nice to sit outside. Staff is always great. They need better champagne if they want us to come for brunch. Too sweet
Went for restaurant week. Food was horrible and portions so small. Service was slow and refills never came. Cookie was harder than rock. Not going back.
Loved the waiter and the food was good!
Sydney was an amazing server! Made our experience even more lovely!
It was my first time there going to Summer House. My husband and myself went with another couple. We sat outside it was a beautiful evening. The noise level is a little high inside so I would not recommend inside. The food was excellent I little pricey on their main entrée dishes . Three of us got their burgers which there delicious my husband got the rainbow trout which he said was delicious.
I would definitely go back however I would also like to try their sister restaurant which is a pizza restaurant next to Summer houseI don’t remember that name.
A bit overpriced. Limited menu. More of a bar atmosphere than an upscale restaurant. Service was friendly but somewhat slow. I was there on a busy Saturday night. Parking lots fill up near to full on a Saturday night because of the movie multiplex across the street. I would go back if I am in the neighborhood, but with different expectations.
Summer House honored our reservation as we arrived - no wait time - sat immediately.
Our Wait staff was amazing. Very polite and knowledgeable about the menu.
Food was good - not great for the price.
Kitchen was slow - we ordered 2 salads and a hamburger.
Wait staff noticed kitchen was slow and before we complained, he gave us a free appetizer to smooth things over.
We sat outside, (did not request outside seating) - it was ok since the weather was beautiful.
Seating outside brings additional noise, so if you want quiet request another spot.
Parking: No free parking - Meters are restricted with one hour parking only - you can not refill the meter - $60 fine.
Parking garage around the corner.
My two friends and I had such a great time Friday night! Food was great! Brussels sprouts, kale salad with salmon, guacamole and chips, and a lot more! DanRay was a great server and we had a ton of fun with him! Will be back :)))
It was lovely
