Summer House - North Bethesda
Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

Nice atmosphere, food was ok at best. One meal was room temp & cauliflower mash was cold. Wait staff offered to take off bill but didn’t. Food was not eaten. Even when we asked about offer to remove it from the bill we were told it had been, it had not. Expensive experience that was lackluster. Disappointed!
Even with a reservation, we still had to wait at least 10 minutes. The ambiance was great and we browsed the bakery while our table was being cleaned off, but after we were seated we were immediately ignored. Eventually I had to ask the hostess for our waiter, who, once he came, was extremely pleasant. We were seated in an area that allowed us to order from both Summer House and the pizzeria next door, however we couldn't enjoy this little luxury as the items we'd selected from the pizzeria's menu were already sold out. The highlight of our meal was my boyfriend's drink, the dark and stormy. Our food was average at best, including our cookie from the bakery. Considering there are so many other dinning options at Pike & Rose, I doubt we'll be back anytime soon.
The food and the service were good. I think the apps and wine are a bit aggressively priced, while the entrees are reasonable. It’s a nice atmosphere. I am struck by the fact that all three times I’ve gone, the restaurant had had multiple groups of women on “Girls nights out”.
Very good restaurant! My only complaint would be sometimes slow service staff. When my date and I first got there with our reservation we still were required to wait about 10 minutes while parties without reservations who got there AFTER us were seated.
Salmon salad dry and no dressing on the greens. Spinach and artichoke dip was not hot when served.
Always a treat to go to Summer House, especially when Grandma is in town. When you can impress someone who has dined everywhere...well lets just say it made the visit to MD a hit! Even though it was a busy Saturday morning our waiter gave us plenty of attention. The brunch omelets were plentiful (leftovers for later), the eggs benedict divine and the fruit plate was a delicious work of art!
As always an excellent dining experience provided by the summer house.
It was absolutely amazing, I definitely recommend booking ahead of time because we had no wait, a great menu and fast service. Food was amazing
Kids and needed to get out
The service was great! Very attentive and informative.
This restaurant is great for a quaint date, out with friends or just a quiet date with yourself. The menu has something for everyone's appetite.
Enjoy indoor and outdoor seating this spring and summer.
Great customer service and fantastic cocktails
We usually love Summer House, but this week we were disappointed. The waitress must have stopped by six times and interrupted us to ask about the meal, they were out of two items we had ordered, and the food was just so-so. I fear it’s going downhill - I love the ambiance but the food and service left a lot to be desired.
We love everything about the restaurant except the menu choices. They need better options. Their original menu was great.
I have been to Summer House in the past and really enjoyed the brunch experience so it was my first choice for my birthday brunch.
It felt like a manager was either absent or replaced. Nothing seemed to be well organized from the seating to the timing and temperatures of the food. Side orders came out separate from main dishes, my father’s bacon was not only late but also undercooked, the hashbrowns were late and completely unseasoned and the waffle had to be sent back due to temperature and the re-fire was still not hot enough to melt tne butter.
I felt badly for my server, he was doing the best job possible with a subpar kitchen.
This place has been extremely popular and packed for brunch for as long as it has been open, it should run like a well-oiled machine but instead it was quite the clunker.
It was my mother’s in-law first time to Summer House and we were seated at a high top when the main dinner room was 60% empty. We felt uncomfortable to ask to move but the hostess and waitress could clearly see we where uncomfortable. Most of the time it’s a great experience and we talked it up to my mother in-law and were kind of let down.
We always come here about once every other month when we’re in Montgomery County. Food and service never disappoints! One of my favorite places to eat and the area is now bustling since all of the new stores have opened recently.
Delightful lunch/ brunch with friend for her birthday.
A bit noisy and due to crowd it took longer than usual for the food to arrive.
Fresh and delicious Cobb salad and French toast!
New Key lime cupcake, too!!!
Summer House is my new favorite place!! Great food and great atmosphere!!!
Tried a new menus item as per Dana’s recommendation and loved the food , as usual great environment tasty food overall a wonderful experience
Great drinks, delicious food and great service. Always busy but not too loud.
Summerhouse is in a convenient location, which is about the best part of it. The food is expensive, and hardly worth the price. We had the spinach artichoke dip which arrived cold. The chips were fresh and light, however. We had a variety of dishes for dinner, ranging from pasta, chicken and tuna. All of them were on the lighter side of a good portion, and the cost is quite high for what you get. The pastas were tasty, but in now way distinguishable from a good, value branded Italian restaurant. The best part were the shoestring french fries - crispy, fried well, and nice seasoning.
The very next morning I was back meeting a friend for breakfast. Despite the early hour, and virtually no one in the restaurant, my egg white sandwich still managed to come cold and cheese not melted. The hash browns were super cold as well. My advice? Go somewhere else.
Our family of four went to Summer House for Sunday brunch. The food was AMAZING (except for the cinnamon roll we shared, which was very dry). I'd go again in a heartbeat for the hash browns alone! Service was very slow (thus the 3 stars there) although our server was incredibly nice. We didn't say anything about the service because we thought maybe they were understaffed. Love the decor!
Seem experience each time I go here —- good service, pleasant wait staff, decent menu & atmosphere. But, food is unevenly prepared & often not done correctly. This time for brunch —- brought toast instead of English muffin, ham instead of bacon & poached eggs that were very over cooked. I only bring people here who are patient and understanding of the kitchen’s flaws. But, honestly, impedes my desire to go the the place. Never know what you are going to get!!!
The online menu was different from the actual one. We waited 30+ min for a table despite having a reservation. The waitress seemed incredibly disinterested. Once the food arrived, there was a giant hair in the burger! The waitress gave a passive apology. The food was OK but not worth the price whatsoever. Overall a really disappointing experience. We will not be back.
Great food and service. Prices are mostly reasonable, although the menu seems to have shrunk in options lately. Will continue to be a repeat customer.
This is such a refreshing restaurant! The layout is bright and crisp and the food is delicious. Our service was a little slow but overall my friends and I were glad we had our quarterly brunch at this restaurant.
While I wouldn't recommend the dining room, I would recommend the bar and the apps. The service in the dining room was poor. We never knew who our server was since multiple people came to the table but no one ever introduced themselves. The food was ok but since two dishes came cold, we ate after everyone else had finished. The server did make up for the issue with free dessert. The ladies room was dirty and overflowing with trash in the can and only one roll of tissue for the two bathrooms. Clearly, attending to the restroom before the dinner hour was not a priority. I've read that a dirty restroom is an indication to the overall cleanliness of a restaurant. The bar scene was festive and the guacamole and calamari were both tasty. Good for drink and a couple of apps but disappointing as a dinner spot.
I always enjoy eating out at Summer House. Definitely one of my favorite places.
Food was good, but cold. Manager was apologetic and made adjustments. Restaurant was more crowded that usual, so service was a bit slow. Would still go again as this has not been my previous experience with this restaurant.
I absolutely love the environment and the food at Summer House
I have been going to summer house since they have opened. Not sure what has happened since then and now, but it isn’t good. Managers were setting up for an event, nothing but pure frustration and irritations in their faces. They didn’t look happy to be doing their job and neither did their employees. Not sure if it was bc it was the morning time (we were at brunch service) or staff was feeding off management’s energy but they would rather chit chat or avoid the managers then serve us or make sure we were doing okay.
Food: not what I’ve come to expect. This is the 3rd time they’ve messed up an order (Santa Monica omelette) not sure if the waiter was new and forgot to make the changes of the cooks in the back didn’t read the ticket properly. They brought out two order of French toast (only ordered 1) then realized they messed up our omelettes. Took those back a long with the additional French toast. No apology for the mix up or that they got our order wrong, nothing.
Very disappointing what this place has turned into.
I would def still come for us bakery but to sit down for a meal? I can find a better restaurant with better service and happier people.
The food was below par on this recent visit compared to our past experiences.
We really liked this restaurant. The food was fabulous, prices moderate and the cookies are enormous but soooo good!!
Our second visit in two weeks. My wife and I each had a salad- very fresh ingredients and tasty.
Our server was excellent and attentive.
W had one of the half circle booths- excellent, a bit quieter area and quite comfortable.
Great brunch! Love the atmosphere and always food is good.
It was my birthday!
Service was absolutely terrible. Came for brunch and had to ask for coffee to be refilled several times. It is a hue rip off to pay $3.50 for one small cup of coffee because the server doesn’t bring it back. Appetizer arrives right before entrees and they were cold. So disappointing.
Avocado Toast was very good. The issue we had was with Chicken and Waffles and the cinnamon roll. The waffle was like warm when served and the chicken were small over cooked tenders. So small that some were 1-2 bites total. The problem was that they were so small that when cooked; they just ended up being overdone. We also asked to have a cinnamon roll heated up for us. It took about 15 minutes and when served; the outside of the roll was warm at best. Just disappointing this time. We typically really enjoy brunch at summer house.
Love the look of the restaurant, bakery, food, and coffee are delicious. Service has been slow every time I've been here over the last year or so which makes this a difficult restaurant to enjoy with a little one. I was also given the wrong food for my daughter which was disappointing, but in my server's defense I didn't say anything about that. Pick up the service speed and this place will be 5 stars for sure!
