Summer House - North Bethesda
Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

Summer House never disappoints! And the happy hour prices are incredible!
Every visit to Summer House over the past few years since its opening has been a pleasurable experience. The food is always just right and the service is super friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance does resemble a summer house in Santa Monica so that in itself adds to the calm, happy feeling. I especially like the salads for lunch and during my most recent visit, I had a yummy avocado toast with perfectly poached eggs on top. My companions enjoyed their salads which are so large they provide two meals and usually a half is taken home! Parking in the adjacent lots is free for two hours, so going there is an especially good deal!
The food was delicious and the environment is great. They were able to accommodate a party of 11 (with less than 12 hour reservation request) on a Sunday morning for brunch even though they were otherwise full. Will definitely be returning.
Food was excellent, however breakfast sandwiches took way too long to get to our table. However, the management was fabulous and took good care of us in the end.
Food was great, ambiance was chill but nice, and I liked that there is outdoor seating. I think our server forgot about us at some point, but besides that I enjoyed myself.
Summer House is one of my most favorite restaurants. From the ambiance to the service to the food- never disappoints!
We enjoy your restaurant but your staff insists on putting mayo on our sandwiches even though we always ask for no mayo. The sandwiches were redone but it shouldn’t be the case
It’s my new favorite spot. It’s so beautifully decorated and feels comfortable. I just love the staff and scenery. Absolutely amazing
The food is always cold and the management fails to properly address the situation. It’s extremely inconsistent.
The waiter was having a bad night. He was apologizing to every table and when we saw a family get up due to what looked like they were waiting too long, we ordered all our items up front. He never came with our last round of drinks so we paid bill and as we were signing one of the two drinks appeared by another waiter.
I made a reservation for four adults and an infant for my birthday and asked specifically for a table at a low traffic area of the restaurant. Instead we got the busiest area where people were going next to our table to the bathrooms and the waiter service area was behind. Every time someone gone by they would kick my son’s stroller and then they would constantly ask us to move it even though I had raised a concern about our location.
Finally as I was not enjoying my dinner because I was constantly bothered by people kicking me in the back or asking me about my stroller, I asked to speak to their manager. The guy ignored my asking for his name. Was telling me about fire codes and every other person’s concern but my own. Offered to move us as we were just getting our entrees. Even though he later comped our dinner, I didn’t want to even get the dessert and just left. This was a complete disaster and on top of that the food was mediocre. Poorly seasoned (trout), or over salted (cauliflower mash) or just poorly executed (calamari that had more breaded onions than calamari with a heavy spicy but really not aioli) - no, free food didn’t taste better, guys. Not at this place.
We ate outside which was lovely. I ordered the veggie burger on gluten free menu. Took a very long time to get our food. That’s very typical. The veggie patties were very loose and mushy. When I asked the waitress if this was the proper consistency she said oh no. Definitely not. Let me get the manager. Manager never came. I ate part of it because I was very hungry. Then after 20 minutes she came back and said they were going to make me a new one. I said that would be a colossal waste of food since I wasn’t going to eat it. Then she said I could take it home which I didn’t want to do. Never saw the manger and still got charged for the meal. Very bad service and follow through. Will not go back. The final straw. Been there many times and put up with slow service and mediocre food for a fun place. No more.
We went for the first time a few days ago. The food was excellent, nice wine and great service. We never felt rushed and really enjoyed our dining experience.
We ordered a variety of meals and they were all good. The service was a little slow and the restaurant is quite loud so it isn’t a good place for quiet conversations but we all enjoyed our meals. My husband returned the next day for lunch and said his turkey sandwich was delicious!
Girls night out. It was great!
Excellent food and service.
I had a wonderful birthday celebration. Thanks waiter Josh for a lovely afternoon.
Sunday brunch at summer house during spring and summer are fun. The setting is lovely (we were on the back patio) and the server was great, though the drinks service was slow and not timed well with each person in my party getting drinks at different times.
The food on the other hand could be better. I ordered the avocado toast. The poached eggs were over cooked (did not run) and the toast was not toasted and cut too thick. The strawberry shortcake was a deconstructed affair with the cake itself being too dry.
I will give it another go, but the sister restaurant Stella Barra is much better food-wise and there are a lot of choices at Pike & Rose
Service was a bit off. Food just average. Atmosphere very nice. Restaurant has good potential just needs some tweaking. May try again. Food was nothing to be excited about. Great atmosphere
Went earlier in the week and the food was so good I returned three days later. Had table shares (crab cake and calamari) plus a blueberry mojito. The calamari is some of the best I have ever had!! So delicious, along with the two dipping sauces. Drink was amazing, too.
Love this restaurant a lot!! But this time we were sat outside and it began to rain and they couldn’t accommodate us with seats inside, not a table or a seat at the bar...just a little disappointing. But the food and service were great as usual!
Great food and great service. Always accommodate special request and do not stress if there is a change in reservation. For example, our birthday dinner went up to 5 people after we made reservations for 4. I called immediately and the reservation was corrected without any issue. The young lady was friendly and very understanding. We had two birthdays and our waitress was so helpful and made both feel special.
Consistently good food and service
Food was a disappointment. It was bland and had no flavor. The service was excellent. Ambience was OK
Sat outside which was great since the weather was nice. However the food was disappointing - ordered the double-deck turkey burger - very small for the price paid and without much flavor. The Alcapulco omelet was bland as well. Food took quite a while after ordering although it wasn't that busy. Server kept forgetting what he needed to bring (water, refill, etc.) so came back multiple times to ask again.
very nice to sit outside when the weather allows it for brunch or lunch. Reservation highly recommended if you don't want to have a long wait.
Appetizer did not come out ontime, burger was cold, and split in half, i dont know why. Egg was over done. Was not satisfied. Service was good.
Food was a little on the salty side and I've never seen a bloody mary with a salt rim. It was rather hot and muggy inside because they had all the windows up. It made it hard to enjoy the food when you have to constantly mop your forehead. Sometiems had to ask the waiter multiple times for items like ketchup.
We had a great Fathers Day brunch.
Great Father’s Day brunch. Family friendly, good kids portion, tasty food and great service.
Our waitress Hailey was excellent and really made my daughter's birthday dinner special.
Indoor seating was as good as outdoor. Like a perfect Cali summer vibe. Perfect
Our waitress Carolyn was the best!
We really enjoyed the food here, although on the day we went the service was slightly slow; but it was worth the wait! Very fresh, very helpful people, and we will return to try more dishes soon!
Emily was a great server! Super friendly, personable, and attentive!
I recommend Summer House but with a few qualifications: First, it's hardly a value. While their main courses are tasty, it's annoying how some restaurants (like SH) "debundle" entrees by making the main item (i.e, a protein) a la carte or with a small side. To get a proper side, you pay extra, even for veggies. In my opinion, sides should be included for a proper meal. Second, the menu has gotten less adventurous lately. The food seems to be targeting a delicate palate; bold flavors are missing. And for a restaurant that claims to be born in Santa Monica, CA, where's the seafood? Only fish available is trout and salmon (but that's merely just meeting the lowest standard). Steaks are prevalent but expensive. Finally, the draft beer list is woefully thin. On the other hand, the restaurant is pleasant, has a nice atmosphere, and should appeal to most people for an upscale-casual experience.
I took a client there for a lunch meeting. Typically, I'm happy with my food choice. This time around it was just "ok." I did not care for the Turkey burger. I was expecting a more traditional ground turkey burger and what I got was anything but. A bit disappointed this time around.
We had an amazing experience. We sat outside on the patio and it was so beautiful outside. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about my gluten allergy and I felt very comfortable dining here.
Delicious food options and all were quite creative and tasty. Sad outside in shade and really enjoyed the experience.
Entrees are very expensive. I know it is a trendy area, but overly expensive for what you get.
