Summer House - North Bethesda
Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

The food was below par on this recent visit compared to our past experiences.
We really liked this restaurant. The food was fabulous, prices moderate and the cookies are enormous but soooo good!!
Our second visit in two weeks. My wife and I each had a salad- very fresh ingredients and tasty.
Our server was excellent and attentive.
W had one of the half circle booths- excellent, a bit quieter area and quite comfortable.
Great brunch! Love the atmosphere and always food is good.
Service was absolutely terrible. Came for brunch and had to ask for coffee to be refilled several times. It is a hue rip off to pay $3.50 for one small cup of coffee because the server doesn’t bring it back. Appetizer arrives right before entrees and they were cold. So disappointing.
Avocado Toast was very good. The issue we had was with Chicken and Waffles and the cinnamon roll. The waffle was like warm when served and the chicken were small over cooked tenders. So small that some were 1-2 bites total. The problem was that they were so small that when cooked; they just ended up being overdone. We also asked to have a cinnamon roll heated up for us. It took about 15 minutes and when served; the outside of the roll was warm at best. Just disappointing this time. We typically really enjoy brunch at summer house.
Love the look of the restaurant, bakery, food, and coffee are delicious. Service has been slow every time I've been here over the last year or so which makes this a difficult restaurant to enjoy with a little one. I was also given the wrong food for my daughter which was disappointing, but in my server's defense I didn't say anything about that. Pick up the service speed and this place will be 5 stars for sure!
I have eaten there and Stella Barra over 100X and this was my worst experience there ever. The service was AWFUL and only 2 of the 7 meals were edible
Food is clean. Ambiance is nice. But very over priced for what you're getting. Plenty of cheaper and better options in Bethesda/Rockville.
This was my first time dining at Summer House. The food was good but not worth the price we paid for the amount of food. $16 guacamole? There was nothing special about it and it wasn’t a large serving. Our waiter was attentive but he forgot 1 out of 3 coffees ordered. We felt rushed to finish our meal as they were constantly turning over tables. The decor is nice but the restaurant is very loud and I struggled to hear across the table. We probably won’t be back anytime soon.
Our server Kyle was excellent. He was very patient and helpful with our group’s special orders. He was attentive but let us enjoy our afternoon birthday celebration at leisure. Everyone was pleased with their selections and the atmosphere is so relaxing. Really nice experience.
Food was good, not exceptional; service ok; ambiance - nice; very noisy (more than most)
Casual, healthy, relaxed atmosphere with great service.
We brought friends from out of town on our most recent visit for lunch and all four of us enjoyed our meals. The Cobb salad was overall very fresh and satisfying with the exception of rather dry, overcooked chicken pieces. Our companions enjoyed their avocado toast with poached eggs and chicken sandwich. The young male servers were wonderful and knew their stuff and couldn't have been more charming. The room is airy and light and does convey a summer house atmosphere which is certainly uplifting on an otherwise chilly, dreary day.
Wonderful lunch. Fresh food, with lots of sensitivity to dietary limitations. Will definitely go back!!
Limited Menu offering, few waiters make us wait long. Quality so so, for expensive bill
We had a fantastic meal. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was great - from the appetizers (tuna tostadas, yum) to the entrees. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. I especially loved the salmon which was prepared perfectly. As we were celebrating a birthday and an anniversary, the server brought us delicious cookies on the house. Great dining experience!!
Love the atmosphere but the food is just awful, especially for the price. The hard boiled eggs in my salad were over cooked and green and the chicken looked like week old leftovers. They replaced the salad but nothing was fresh. Don’t come here if you’re hungry.
I always enjoy this establishment. I truly enjoy the gluten-free desserts as well!
I wanted to love this visit, but nothing was overly impressive. I’d certainly give the restaurant a second shot and try something else. I’m sure they have good food and better service than we experienced.
Delicious food although some of the appetizers “to share” portions were tiny.
Service was good and the overall experience was very nice.
Took 30 minutes to seat us for lunch despite our arriving 5 minutes before our reservation time, so I’d hate to have been there at dinner time. Once we were seated, our server was attentive and our food took about 15 minutes to come out. The food was excellent - the avocado toast was delicious and my friend got the tomato soup and grilled cheese and said it was also very good. But I won’t come back for lunch unless I have lots of time.
Excellent food service and atmosphere.love the friendly environment
We ate later in the night and hour before they were going to close so they did not give us the full guac that i have gotten at other times from the restaurant. It was just mashed avocado instead of added corn and the other toppings they usually add.
Terrible first time experience. Alerted restaurant of gluten free diner upon time of making reservation. Took 10 minutes to be seated past reservation time. Wasnt met by server for another 10. Slow on drinks, arrived separately too. Took over 25 minutes after being sat to place order with server. They were out of the gluten free cinnamon roll which we found out 10 minutes later, then ordered gluten free pancakes and were told they were out of those 5 minutes after ordering. How hard is it to bring out a gluten free menu at a restaurant that offers so many options? Also I was a server for almost 8 years and keeping track of running 86s during shift is paramount and should be part of the spiel. Get it together summer house, you have all the makings of a great spot, just terrible execution. I hope to be contacted by the restaurant to discuss this horrendous experience further.
I’ve tried to like this place since they opened as they’re the closest place to get gluten free brunch options (have a family member with a severe gluten allergy and they are very good about accommodating allergies/health concerns in general) but they’re food is subpar at best and seems to be going downhill since opening. At this point I only go if someone else is paying and I’ll just order a drink or something from the bakery section.
They’re great for a quick bite to chat up with friends but if you’re looking for a quality meal perhaps try one of the surrounding restaurants. Also they’re extremely crowded on the weekends but the staff is amazing and will do everything they can to make your stay worth it.
Loved the wine list. NIce California selection. Expected to see a bit more seafood on the menu. Nice spot, albeit the suburbs.
Lunch. It was very busy but no more than OK. Salad average at best. Soup and grilled cheese was nice.
Waitress paid little attention to us and was not especially warm.
The english muffins to go were terrific.
My friend and I went there for lunch. We absolutely loved it and will be returning. Matthew was our server and did a phenomenal job.
Love summer house, the food wasn’t as hot as it usually is, and the changed the chicken and waffle a bit. I sub for French toast which is amazing. French toast was larger but the chicken was a lot less which aas disappointing. Food was great thou, chicken was a bit salty, but it’s always a treat going there.
a wonderful place to relax and enjoy great food. excellent staff
A bright and chatty vibe for dinner with friends or after shopping/ movie. Good wine and cocktail list- fresh food cooked expertly. Uncomplicated and easy to get in and out in an hour - a bit too noisy to linger.
My first time checking this place out and I loved it. The food was delicious and the staff is great.
We enjoyed cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table and had a fun conversation with the bartender. The crafted cocktail recipes included ingredients that aren’t on a typical menu, and made for a tasty drink. We weren’t impressed with the generic fried calamari appetizer, but we finished our seafood and pasta entrees. The best part of the meal was actually desert. They have a daily made selection of baked goods, including unique cookies. Desert is best enjoyed with ice cream and an espresso shot or two to complete the dining experience.
Food was delicious. Ambience was nice. We were seated right away.
Great weekend brunch menu. Have dined here twice. Will return to try the lunch and dinner menu. The ambiance is great and the food is good.
Love the ambiance great staff and wonderful breakfast
Hannah served our table with so much grace and friendly manner. Good job!
We enjoyed our stay but unfortunately the hot chocolate was not warm enough and we expected to have a drink with real chocolate and less marshmallows in it.
It had been a while since we had eaten here. The food is okay but overpriced.
