Sunday Lunch
Chef Jeff Mahin’s California-inspired menu highlights simple, market-driven dishes with a focus on the wood-fire grill. From fresh Hawaiian tuna flown in daily to sustainably farmed Ōra King Salmon, guests will experience seasonal specialties made with fresh ingredients and local produce. To complement the menu, Summer House boasts an extensive wine list that focuses on the state’s distinct regional varietals and independent vintners, along with cocktails and local beer. The Market counter, shared with Stella Barra, serves a selection of fresh-baked pastries, sourdough English muffins and Mahin’s famous cookies, along with small-batch coffee and specialty espresso drinks. Extensive gluten-free and kids menus are also available. Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

Good food and excellent service make a great experience. My friend and I went to Summer House for lunch. Our server, Peter, noticed the gift bag immediately and asked if we were celebrating an occasion. We told him it was my birthday. He brought us the Prosecco we ordered. When he came back to take our orders, we asked about the Prosecco. It was flat. He comped us two new drinks from an unopened bottle, at the 9 oz. size rather than the 6 oz. size we ordered! We both had the grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Excellent! Peter was attentive and friendly. He brought me a yummy cookie for dessert with a birthday candle. He told us about signing up for the Lettuce Entertain You app, which would save us money in the future. And, he showed us how to do it. I've been to Summer House before and always enjoyed the food, ambiance and service. I think this was my best experience there yet. I recommend it.

From the spicy and crispy salad to the perfectly cooked Scottish salmon to the the oats and apple cookie à la mode with vanilla bean ice cream, nothing could have been better except the exceptional service. Mariam was the loveliest and most attentive server one could ever have . The restaurant is managed by the charming Tyler and impressively run.

Excellent food! Superb service!

We've been to Summerhouse many times. The menu is limited in options, and we're aware of that. However, since it was a Friday night, we were careful to book reservations. They were not honored, and we waited well over 30 minutes for a table. There were empty tables, and we could not get a reason that we couldn't have one.

It took 4 waiters/waitresses asked to get coffee, and that type of service applied to the food as well.

They are obviously not, in any way, ready for a busy night. Getting food and attention felt like a "fight." It was a very unpleasant evening. We will only go off hours, if we go back.

So here’s the thing: other Lettuce eateries produce good food. I’ve given this place 4 opportunities weeks/months apart to show they care, even a little bit, about their food. Presentation is sloppy, fish/burgers/buns dry and over cooked. Sautéd spinach is so covered with globs of who knows what kind of garlic paste that it’s inedible. I guess I could’ve talked with the manager, but if this was my experience each time I visited he’s probably heard this before.

We went to Summer House at noon on Sunday during Bethesda Restaurant week and it was very busy. There aren't a lot of soft furnishings and with the stone floor and the high peaked ceiling, it was difficult to hear my guest at times due to the "energetic" sound levels. We ordered from the menu and they serve breakfast until 1pm so we opted for that. I ordered the Avocado Toast with poached eggs and scallion mascarpone with micro greens over toasted brioche and it was amazing. It came with a small bowl with field greens. My guest had the American breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. The waitstaff was extremely attentive, personable, and friendly and we were never made to feel rushed during our meal. Can't wait to return.

Went there for Restaurant Week. The overall experience was very satisfying. Attentive, prompt and friendly service throughout. The food was good, fixed and specials menus. Would have liked more options on the menu, and for all dietary choices especially, since this is a west coast estab. However, what we ate was all very tasty and fresh. Guac+dips+chips, soup, salad, pasta, chicken sandwich, chocolate cake and drinks- all excellent. Will be back to try out the fsmous brunch soon!

Went to celebrate 50th birthday celebration for four life long friends. Service was extremely slow, kitchen got our orders incorrect three times. The tall male general manager came around to apologize for the hiccups - no amends offered. The kicker was that they overcharged us by $27-- thank goodness of the ladies looked!

I'd go back but probably not for a bit.

The main entrees are OK, but much too over priced for the portions. If you want to pay greater than NY prices for so-so service and leave hungry, go for it. We will not return only because of the dinner pricing.

It was a special Birthday lunch for 2 fabulous moms in their 40’s! We hit traffic and summer house was gracious about our 10min late arrival, (I did call to warn them) the food was delicious and dessert was decadent!

Been here 3 times, first time was great! Second time our food took an eternity until we complained to the manager who said he would take care of our bill( he never did). Our last time we went with the family because we like the food, and it took even longer then the second time. The food was good, the service wasn’t, we had to ask a few employees that walked by for refills, our check etc. If you have the patience and don’t mind waiting, this is the place for you.

Our server clearly didn’t care about our table. Comes in take order bring our drink and never see him again until we finished the meal. No refill and didn’t come back AT ALL. The one time he comes back was to drop off the check without asking if we wants dessert.....
What a terrible server for a great restaurant. Strongly recommend him to find a job in McDonald where there is no service skill required.

Summer House will not disappoint. The food is delicious. The pancakes are amazing! You will probably have to get a to-go box because the are large. The service is top-notch. My waitress was very attentive but not intrusive. I recommend Summer House to all.

New Year’s Day pajama brunch was amazing as always. It is now a tradition with us.
We were seated quickly and service was fast. The Acapulco omelette is my favorite brunch item if you like eggs with a bit of a kick. Others enjoyed malt and berry waffles.

In the warmer months- during colder months, maybe for breakfast and lunch. Service was very slow, and food was ok- presentation was lacking. The ceiling lights covered in fabric need to be cleaned—that’s what happens when you have a lot of down time. To be fair, we never should have gone there for Christmas Eve, just not that kind of a place.

As a long time fan of the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant chain, I cannot begin to express how disappointed we were with the service at Summer House. They were slow to inform us they were out of one of our entrees...we were already done with our appetizer. Fifteen minutes after ordering a replacement entree, they brought out a salad that went with the order they were out of. Shortly after that we were informed they were out of that too. We finally got served an hour after we sat down. The manager was nice and comp’d our entire meal, but no one ever can back to check on us. No water service, nothing. We had flag our original server down to find out if we needed to complete any paperwork before we left.

This was our third visit to Summer House in the past two months. We have consistently enjoyed delicious food and wonderful, accommodating service (my husband uses a wheel chair and we were made to feel welcome and were beautifully accommodated all three times we dined). Highly recommend the Sea Bass with fennel and citrus, but in truth everything we’ve ordered has been great. By keeping their menu on the small side they’re able to execute each dish to perfection. Prices are more than fair. Can’t wait until our next visit.

It was a couple days before Christmas and restaurant was very busy. Our server started out great but soon became MIA. Walked right by us and never checked in. No drink refills until she finally came to our table to ask if we wanted dessert. Dropped off the bill but never saw her again. A manager, I think, took payment and returned bill for me to sign. On the way out, stopped by the take out counter to get some yummy looking cookies that I eyed prior to being seated. There was nobody working the counter for at least 5 minutes. I almost walked away but started commiserating with others behind me waiting for an employee to assist us. Left with some very delicious cookies, so worth the wait. Food was good, but not great. The decor is very pretty. Unfortunate that the service that started out so attentive, very very quickly became nonexistent. May possibly try one more time to see if just a bad day.

Been to Summer House many times. Unimpressed by the Cauliflower appetizer, would not recommend it. Unfortunately the waitress had a disconnect with our order. We ordered two shareables and a main entree and asked her to bring it all out at the same time. She didn't and we sat there and waited over 30 min for our entree dish, a manager came by and apologized and thought she may comp us the meal or an appetizer or something for our trouble but didn't. Disappointing overall experience...not the norm for them.

Exceptionally long wait ...our appetizer order was mixed up and I got chicken instead of salmon for my lunch order salad. Waiter offered us dessert on the house but after waiting for almost two hours for lunch we did not want to wait any longer! Was my second visit so this was probably an anomaly but disappointing nonetheless
