About Summer House - North Bethesda

Chef Jeff Mahin’s California-inspired menu highlights simple, market-driven dishes with a focus on the wood-fire grill. From fresh Hawaiian tuna flown in daily to sustainably farmed Ōra King Salmon, guests will experience seasonal specialties made with fresh ingredients and local produce. To complement the menu, Summer House boasts an extensive wine list that focuses on the state’s distinct regional varietals and independent vintners, along with cocktails and local beer. The Market counter, shared with Stella Barra, serves a selection of fresh-baked pastries, sourdough English muffins and Mahin’s famous cookies, along with small-batch coffee and specialty espresso drinks. Extensive gluten-free and kids menus are also available.

Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

The service was very slow. The server was friendly but distracted. One drink order never arrived even after asking about it halfway through the meal. The guacamole was very good but there were problems with the entrees. The burgers all came cold and the tuna burger was raw inside.

I had made a reservation two weeks in advanced for brunch but still had a 30+ minute wait. The hostess were very rude and not accommodating at all.

The manager brought us free apps once we were seated which was nice. The food is just okay. Nothing special for their prices.

Food was good, service was reasonable - the waitstaff was certainly working hard. However we were seated almost 30 minutes late for brunch, despite having a reservation. I also noticed that the lunch menu specified which meals were vegetarian, but the brunch one did not, and as a result of a poor description and lack of a symbol, I ordered a meal that I could not eat. So definitely make sure to ask if there are additional ingredients not listed if you have any dietary restrictions!

Popular place. You will wait an average of 30 plus minutes even with a reservation AND when you get there before your reservation

great hostess. so flexible when i had to add two people last minute. two downsides:
table was not ready right away and we had to look around for the server a few times.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Summer House! Everyone working there were very friendly, from check-in, to our servers. The food was delicious. We ordered tuna tartar, guacamole, and the brussel sprouts for appetizers. Very delicious. Our drink were the winter sangria. The best sangria I've ever had. Wish it came in a carafe, so we ordered multiple glasses. Our entrees were delicious and timed right. Kale salad with tuna tartar, tacos, and burger were perfect. It was a lovely experience. I will highly recommend Summer House and cannot wait to go back.

After seeing the menu the three of us were a bit disappointed as it was very limited in in the number of offerings; however, the quality of the food that was served was very good. Given the limited menu and the difficulties we had hearing across the table we probably will not go again. This would be a fun place for a large group get-together.

A great place to grab some dinner anytime. Menu includes lots of variety so your whole party should be happy with the choices. The wait staff was attentive without being obtrusive. The lobby includes a great cookie/ snack bar with outstanding treats! They also accommodated my party when when we were 45 minutes early for dinner!

My recent dining experience was exceptional. Although it was a business meeting, my companion and I were able to relax as we reviewed our agenda. The food was very tasty and fresh, and the service was excellent. Our server was attentive but respectful of the fact that we were conducting business. I will continue to dine at Summer House as often as possible.

The restaurant did a poor job managing our reservation. We had an 8 pm reservation and our party arrived a couple minutes before 8. Our wait was 35 minutes. The manager was apologetic and said drinks and appetizers were on him.

After we finished eating, before dessert menu and coffee were to be offered, our waitress informed us that dessert and coffee would be on the house. We all shared a cookie and my wife had coffee.

As diners, there were two problems:
1. Managing our reservations
2. Why did the restaurant change their mind about what was to be on the house. We never asked for anything to be free to begin with.

Everything tasted delicious. The service was perfect and we love the round booth. Another fun birthday celebration at Summerhouse! I came with 3 friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. We started with Brussels sprouts - very tasty. I had the Kale Salad with Ahi tuna. They are careful and accommodating about food allergies. After the meal our server brought a massive chocolate chip cookie with a candle in it for my friend’s birthday, and even brought me an extra gluten free cookie so I could join in.

We go to the summer house every Sunday with the kids and we had by far the best experience this past Sunday. We got there and sat down and daughter wasn't feeling well so she ran to the restroom. A young lady that work there notice my daughter wasn't feeling well and asked right away if we needed anything. She got my daughter a gingerAle right away. How sweet!

Server was outstanding. The chicken tostada's were excellent and my partner opted to add spinach to it. The avacodo toast was delicious. I wish the bread was less broiled on the bottom as it was a bit too crunchy. The veggie hash had a bit too much tarragon for my friend. The homemade English muffins are out of this world. They don't validate parking but the 1st two hours are free at the parking garage.

Service and food were very good. We had an excellent experience and highly recommend Summer House at Pike and Rose. French toast was awesome!

One small item is that the hostess was unfriendly and drunk with power deciding when we would be seated although we had an opentable reservation and arrived on-time.

We had a very enjoyable casual dinner with friends. My favorite appetizer by far is the tuna and watermelon tostada, perfect amount of spice! The steak frites was delicious. The shoestring potatoes and arugula salad are a nice compliment to the steak. Although we’re typically hesitant to order sushi at any place other a “sushi restaurant”, we wouldn’t hesitate to order it from here again. Definitely fresh!

The restaurant is beautiful and the service was good but the food had no taste at all. My friend and I ordered the chicken and waffles and another friend had a benedict dish. My friend who ordered the benedict only ate a few bites and said it was awful. There was a nice portion of chicken with a full size waffle but the food had no flavor at all. I even had to ask for a glass of ice because the water carafe was not even cold. The water was warm. Beautiful restaurant but not worth the trip since the food isn’t good.
