Summer House - North Bethesda
Summer House evokes the breezy feel of a summer beach house with whitewashed wood, earth-toned tiling and warm hues. Glass garage doors along with a lofted ceiling and hanging string lights, bring the outside in – no matter the season.

Always a good time
We had to wait over 40 minutes for our salad entree. Also, the food didn’t taste as flavorful as the last time I was there.
Nice location with good outdoor seating. Food is good, not great, with a limited set of options to choose from. Service is always friendly and generally prompt.
Celebrated our daughters 18th bday. It was my daughters choice. The food was delicious. Everyone loved their meal. They brought out a special dessert for my daughter and we sang happy birthday. It was a confetti cookie with a scoop of this amazing vanilla ice cream. The only downside was our daughter wanted to sit outside and all they could do was seat the 5 of us at a table for 4. There were still many empty tables and I asked if they could put 2 tables together but the hostess said no because they will need the tables for the dinner crowd. We were a bit crowded with 5 at a table for 4. Was hoping they would of been a bit more accommodating.
The server was just odd. She told us that she wants to go in to politics and that she does not like people from corporate offices. Well, we happen to work in a corporate office. Then halfway through our meal she disappeared and it too 30 minutes to get a second round of beverages which were brought to us by a different server. That different server closed out our check, we never saw our server again...until we were walking out of the restaurant and saw she was bartending at the bar. Just odd. And you should know she was down selling the menu, telling us not to get the pasta or chicken because they are not good...chicken is dry and only Italian restaurants make good pasta and Summer House is not an Italian restaurant. Very bizarre. And I was bringing 4 ppl with me for a business meal when they had never been to your restaurant before, not a good first impression. Thankfully the food was amazing as always. Thought you should know.
Food was excellent and the portion size was very good.
The menu is unique for the area. It was nice to sit outside. Staff is always great. They need better champagne if they want us to come for brunch. Too sweet
Went for restaurant week. Food was horrible and portions so small. Service was slow and refills never came. Cookie was harder than rock. Not going back.
Loved the waiter and the food was good!
Sydney was an amazing server! Made our experience even more lovely!
A bit overpriced. Limited menu. More of a bar atmosphere than an upscale restaurant. Service was friendly but somewhat slow. I was there on a busy Saturday night. Parking lots fill up near to full on a Saturday night because of the movie multiplex across the street. I would go back if I am in the neighborhood, but with different expectations.
It was my first time there going to Summer House. My husband and myself went with another couple. We sat outside it was a beautiful evening. The noise level is a little high inside so I would not recommend inside. The food was excellent I little pricey on their main entrée dishes . Three of us got their burgers which there delicious my husband got the rainbow trout which he said was delicious.
I would definitely go back however I would also like to try their sister restaurant which is a pizza restaurant next to Summer houseI don’t remember that name.
Summer House honored our reservation as we arrived - no wait time - sat immediately.
Our Wait staff was amazing. Very polite and knowledgeable about the menu.
Food was good - not great for the price.
Kitchen was slow - we ordered 2 salads and a hamburger.
Wait staff noticed kitchen was slow and before we complained, he gave us a free appetizer to smooth things over.
We sat outside, (did not request outside seating) - it was ok since the weather was beautiful.
Seating outside brings additional noise, so if you want quiet request another spot.
Parking: No free parking - Meters are restricted with one hour parking only - you can not refill the meter - $60 fine.
Parking garage around the corner.
My two friends and I had such a great time Friday night! Food was great! Brussels sprouts, kale salad with salmon, guacamole and chips, and a lot more! DanRay was a great server and we had a ton of fun with him! Will be back :)))
It was lovely
Daniel, our server went out of his way to make our evening enjoyable. He suggested menu items, including fabulous wine and was attentive but not intrusive. We had a great table that gave us an outdoor feeling with indoor protection from the elements and passers-by. I’d suggest it for friends, dates and easygoing nights out.
I love the relaxed atmosphere here- Service was well-timed and friendly, and food was amazing as usual!
We had a totally nonexistent waitress who also gave us misleading information about the food we ordered. The manager eventually took over, but all around it was a horrible experience.
I like to go to summerhouse for business lunches as the staff is always friendly, the food is good with plenty of health selections and it's ideally suited geographically
Wush the menu had more selection. Price a bit high on wine and food.
Excellent room and bar. Beautiful place!
Great service. Very bright and sunny atmosphere. Artichokes Fantastic. Brussel sprouts salad could use more dressing!
I don't usually have favorites but this is definitely a place i keep returning to. Great dining areas.. open and light. Excellent food and competent friendly servers
The place is beautiful! Brunch Menu is limited but adequate. Virgin special beverages are tasty. Ordered the classic eggs Benedict which was just ok and not as warm as it should have been. Service started off great but then took a nosedive. We had a hard time getting our check. Finally a different waiter said he would get it but then brought us the wrong check! Eventually got the correct one. If I lived near the area I would consider trying it again but it was definitely not worth the drive from Virginia.
Enjoyed Sunday brunch. Food was fine. Ambiance even better. However, having to wait 10 minutes for server to bring milk or cream for coffee and then 10 more minutes to bring a teaspoon is not acceptable. What we hear from our friends about this place is that the food is ok, but the service is poor.
Overall a very good experience, but a few items to note. Had to wait a bit on a 7pm reservation, but it's also Saturday night. Great zero proof cocktails, a wonderful addition when a member of the party isn't drinking. Appetizer and kids meal came out quick. Unfortunately had to keep on asking for the kids drink and the server seemed to disappear at times.
When the halibut came out we noticed it didn't have the sides as listed on the menu. When we asked the server about it we had a bit of of a discussion, especially after we noted it was listed on the menu and they said it wasn't. When they brought it to us they said it was because they keep on changing the sides.
The rest of the food was very good, really impressed with the steak, halibut, and sides, especially the fries. The last item to note is my wife told me the women's bathroom was in poor condition after we left, multiple things broken/not functioning which is rather surprising for a place like this.
The food was mediocre and overpriced. The turkey burger tasted like something out of a fast food chain and the Cobb salad was ok. The cookie was good but was also really oily. The server kept forgetting what we asked for (drinks, sauce, check) and it wasn’t even busy.
The ambiance is really nice but that’s really all that is good
Service extremely slow, we order cheese sandwich and soup.
Our waitress was not attentive, most of the time we had a hard time finding her
We dine at Summer House often. This time we were not very happy. We have many out of town visitors we bring them to Summer House. It was very very Hot in the restaurant the service was not good. The food was also not as good as it always is. We may be re thinking our restaurant choice in the future. Thank you!
We had a horrible waitress. Other staff and the manager were great though. And the food was delicious as always. We also love sitting at the tables outside on the sidewalk.
Food was excellent, albeit a bit pricier than one would expect. Worst example was with the drinks: $14.95 for a bloody Mary during Sunday brunch. Granted, that reflected a subtle up sell by the waiter who asked my wife, “Will Tito’s vodka be ok?” That happens a lot, but $8 for a brand up sell? Way too much.
Enjoyed dinner at Summer House while on a long weekend trip with my mom and son. The ambience was nice. It was crowded and a bit loud but overall enjoyable. Our food was good, my only complaint was my burger was very red in the center. I realized after I ordered it I wasn’t asked how I wanted it cooked. Partially on me for forgetting to ask for it medium. The server was very nice and attentive.
The avocado toast was delicious!
We went for my birthday brunch. Menu selection was great, it was the execution of my choice that was so disappointing and I ended up not eating in the end. They tried twice, maybe I was too picky, but I didn't get what I ordered and that was that. I ordered their avocado toast with poached eggs - what can go wrong? Let me just say that avocado and poached eggs on bread isn't nice. How difficult is it to toast bread? Needless to say my partner thoroughly enjoyed the eggs Benedict on hash browns, just don't order toast.
The waitress Mayrum was great!!!
Loved the atmosphere of the place for an early brunch. Friendly wait staff staff and the one manager, I think his name was Matt, was absolutely wonderful!
Our table was not ready at our reservation time and our entire party was there early. The tables are really close together and my husband was bumped many times during our dinner. Our server never offered us bread, did not put a water bottle on our table until we asked, and was not familiar with the menu (one of our party asked about a sauce on a pasta and server did not know, asked the kitchen and still could not describe it) and our bill was wrong, they double charged us for one of the dishes that had to be sent back because of an allergy. Food was good but there are many other restaurant choices with good food and service.
We had a snippy person at the front desk who was annoyed that because I had a reservation, I shouldn't have to wait 20-25 minutes for a table to become available. Then, instead of being put at an available booth, we were put at a table in the midst of everyone. Of course the booth had no fan, so it was quite stuffy on a 95 degree day. The food was fine, the wait staff was okay, but it was not only unremarkable but the front desk person, who was clearly overwhelmed with volume, just set a really bad tone for the start of the evening.
Service was not good. Nice enough guy, but not on top of things. We wondered if he was new, but he wasn’t. He got our drink order wrong three times. Never brought out the bread we asked for four times. Drinks and food took a long time to come out. Food quality was okay, not great. Definitely not worth the price. The best thing about Summer House in my opinion is the space and ambiance. I won’t hurry back.
Ordered blueberry pancakes and found 1 blueberry baked into pancake. Had to ask someone to wipe down chair upon my arrival. My over easy eggs were over cooked and my hash browns appeared soggy or soft, not crispy at all.
