Sukiyaki House Ratings and Reviews
Another memorable dining experience at Sukiyaki! We went to celebrate a birthday and it was perfect. The service and host were excellent as always and introduced us to some creative and tasty dishes. They also offer several vegetarian options which I appreciate. Thank you! We will be back again soon!
Well I must say THANK YOU to the staff. I was late getting there. I called, and they said "come on in, we are closed, but come on in." So grateful, as I love their sushi and atmosphere. Anna is an amazing host, and her daughter was so helpful. Cheers! Hats off to you! Lisa Marie
The food here is good and the staff is friendly, however it does seem like they get overwhelmed and forget simple things like bringing water, refilling drinks, and just checking up on the tables from time to time. If something is forgotten it is very hard to waive down your server who somehow disappears in such a small setting.
Not good. Service was terribly slow and the restaurant was half full. Took 1 hour to get our sushi. When it did arrive, it was one at a time with a solid 10 minutes in between the next roll. Don't be fooled but the gigantic role - it just means more cold white rice...,not more fish. Last and only time. Clearly this is my fault for choosing sushi in Calgary - stick to steak.
Excellent food and VERY FRESH! Not busy considering it was a Saturday and Calgary was buzzing with the Comic Expo which by the way we were not attending. Great for late night dinning if you don't want a heavy meal:) We'll go back! It's very centrally located downtown, just a block down from the Palliser Hotel.
Sashimi cuts are well pro-portioned, you get a lot for the price, very fresh and awesome presentation. Our daughter tried Hotategai (scallop) for the first time, and proceeded to eat the three peices I'd ordered for myselt, her new favorite apparently.
Rolls are very inventive and tasty (salmon skin roll is best in town, IMO). Nice selection of imported Japanese Sake and Whiskey.
Some of our party had cooked entre (beef tenderloin) that needed to be sent back to kitchen, as it wasn't cooked to med-well as asked. This was handled very professionally and quickly.
Sukiyaki House has consistently good sushi - I get here for business lunch whenever possible. One finding though is to make your reservations earlier in the noon hour if possible (prior to 12 noon) and to be efficient getting your order in to your server and the kitchen. They seem to get backed up pretty easily and you'll have a long wait on your hands if you don't prepare.
Our favourite sushi place in Calgary. Sushi and sashimi are the best quality and the rolls are creative and delicious. Mixed tempura was very good and the beef tataki outstanding. We have always found the service to be efficient and friendly even if there is a large group.
We hadn't been to Sukiyaki House in a while but the food was delicious and definitely good value for the price and quantity and high quality. Service was also excellent - very efficient but not overly intrusive. There is enough room so that you are comfortable and you can have a conversation without yelling. We will most certainly go back!
Honestly, their sushi selection isn't all that good, and sushi rolls were cut into giant pieces which were very difficult to eat. Tori karaage was by far the best I have ever had however. Did not try hot pot or any other main dishes.
Nice place, however there are better places to go in Clagary for the same price if not slightly cheaper.
Get the Bento Box. It is very good food and lots of it. I always get the beef. It is miso soup, then some pieces of sushi and rolls, then salad, grilled beef with rice and spicy prawns with some tempura veggies. It is all very fresh and tasty and a good sized lunch. Service is very good and friendly.
I'm rather critical when it comes to sushi and Sukiyaki House did not disappoint. I believe the quality to be on par with Sushi Bar Zipang (Bridgeland) and Sushi Roku (Royal Oak). Price point is higher than the typical sushi restaurant, but you are also being served better quality seafood.
Though the food was great, service could be improved. The server-to-patron ratio was low, thus we received relatively slow service. However I note that the servers were courteous and friendly.
Food preparation also took longer than we had anticipated--luckily the wait was worth it! I can appreciate that the chefs took their time to prepare good food.
Overall a positive experience.
This was my first time at this restaurant, and I was meeting with some old friends. I was initially impressed, because on my reservation I indicated we would like a window seat for viewing, and upon entering, we were guided to a window seat with a great view of the street.
The food was very fresh and tasty, with ample portions. We had sushi, and from time to time the fish is very thinly cut and barely fits over the rice, but not so with Sukiyaki House. the portions were more than ample.
Service was brilliant, and Anna's (owner??) ability to insure table needs were met, while not interfering with the service provided by the waitress was a nice touch and she is very likeable. One of my friends is an illusionist, so he had plenty of fun performing some of his magic, and kept the staff fully entertained.
Loved the place will definitely go back again!!
Sukiyaki House does dependable, fresh sushi and other Japanese dishes. The mood is calm, open (not dark like some sushi restaurants can be) and good to have a lunch meeting at. Service can get overwhelmed quickly if the restaurant is busy, make sure to order early and efficiently.
There's nothing overly trendy here and I've never been disappointed with my meal. Sushi is slightly less expensive than KABUKU, a better known downtown spot, but just as good if not better.
