Brunch here didn't really need reservations (only two other people eating) but it was nice to have the reservation for ease of mind. The service is impeccable. Waitress very professional and unobtrusive. Brunch food very good -- fresh butter and fruit was fantastic. Bacon -- this is the best bacon I've ever had. It must be from a much better source than the bacon you get at the grocery store! My omelet was average, but that's okay. This restaurant is in a hotel, but it's just inside the main entrance, so you can park outside (free on street) and it's easily accessible.
Beautiful bar, smallish restaurant space. Wine and drinks were excellent. My dinner was excellent; salmon with couscous and asparagus. My wife’s steak frites lacked seasoning. The staff took care of that issue and could not have been nicer about fixing the issue. We enjoyed the restaurant and will come back soon.
We tried the restaurant as part of Naperville Restaurant week. The portion size was perfect for my Salmon entree. The flatbread appetizer had a tricker crust than expected. The mousse was wonderful.
When this restaurant opened the menu struck us as too frou frou and too pricey for the entrees. A recent visit for lunch proved that the menu has been revised to be much more comfortable in all areas. A very nice selection of food which was presented very capably by the staff. We will make a visit for dinner in the future since that menu looks enticing. The restaurant is conveniently located in the Hotel Arista (a boutique hotel) with a parking garage nearby that makes a winter journey super convenient -- just a short trip up an elevator if you park on the ground floor and then a walk past two hallways to the small restaurant decorated in black tones. Only two other tables were occupied, but it was New Year's Day and very quiet. Recommended for a subdued lunch with a good selection of sandwiches and soups. A good selection of beverages as well. The room might get noisier if more guests come since the tables for two are set rather close together.
Service was slow and food was cold. Wait staff friendly and helpful.
The food was very average. Definitely not worth the prices they charged.
The menu is very appealing. However, they didn't have what I ordered. The baked onion soup was inedible...lukewarm and badly seasoned. The sandwich lacked substance. Service was pleasant. Ambiance was good.
Great food and great service. The atmosphere promoted conversation.
The hotel is new, Atria, and convenient off of rt59 and north of I88. Waitress was very polite. Food was quite good and reasonably priced.
Food was good, well prepare, visually appealing but then we noticed that the fruit served in our brunch was moldy. The manager was very gracious however that left a lasting impression especially as a first visit experience. I would come back but would have my critical eye on every bite.
Visiting family and selected Sugar Toad for dinner. My wife and I are Vegan and the kitchen team created a very tasty dish of polenta with a wild mushroom ragout. Nicely done!! Thanks team!!!
Enjoyed everything from the atmosphere to the service to the meal. Was meeting with a friend and we did a lot a of chatting, but didn’t feel pressured to hurry through the meal.
We went for a Thursday lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. Hotel is hard to find, parking is difficult. There were only 4 customers, including us, during the entire lunch hour, although there was one couple that took food out. I would have to stand up and wave to get the waitress' attention. She stationed herself at the bar, and we were out of her sight much of the time. There was also a bus boy who couldn't have cared less. The food was excellent -- worthy of a crowd, but they couldn't handle more than 3 diners with the staff they currently have. We won't go back -- there are far better restaurants in the Naperville area.
My Saturday breakfast the the Sugar Toad was the perfect compliment to a glorious weekend wedding. The salmon Benedict was unforgettable. The heaping helping of smoked salmon was perfectly cooked and season and proved a great pairing with the breakfast potatoes, which were a tender, flavorful surprise. The coffee was bold, but not overpowering. The delightful servers made sure my cup was never empty. This is one instance when I wish I had two stomachs.
Not impressed with the food - menu changed from online
One of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. French Onion soup tasted like water, cheese wasn't melted correctly. The grilled calamari was the most repulsive food item my wife and I have ever seen/tasted. Absolutely disgusting.
I was looking for a special restaurant for Father's Day brunch. Decided on Sugartoad since we'd never been and I'd heard good things. When we arrived, was so disappointed to find out that it was just an ordinary hotel restaurant. No view. No ambiance. We ended up pulling two tables together (ourselves) and sitting in the bar since the dining room was packed with kids and dirty tables.
Food was disappointing as well. Eggs Benedict tasted like someone had mistakenly dumped the whole salt shaker in the sauce. Bloody Mary was a glass of tomato juice with ice.
All in all, a very disappointing first visit. Will not be back.
Went for brunch but they didn't have their brunch menu just the breakfast menu. Super disappointing.
Excellent service with attentive staff. The food and cocktails were imaginative and wonderfully flavorful. I love this gem of a place. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and had our 1 year old child with us and our waitress was so thoughtful and good with her. We enjoyed our meal without feeling rushed and they went the extra step to really making us feel special. The food was superb and the drinks were incredible! My drink even had smoke in the glass!
Poor service despite hardly anyone in the restaurant- order was incorrect, no bread offered yet other tables had bread- food not at a level expected for nice restaurants
I was pretty disappointed with Sugar Toad. The reviews I read were very positive...I did not find this to be the case.
My boyfriend and I tried this place for the first time last Tuesday for our 3 year anniversary. It was amazing. The food was great. Service was outstanding! And they were really great with us because we are a young couple who come from a small farm town and don't eat at fancy places a lot so they were really patient with us and took the time to explain things that I maybe had never heard of before. Loved it. Will definitely recommend and return.
Server was great. Don't remember her name but she was blonde. Bartender was great too. Disappointed about being out of lamb and scallops.
Only 2 couples in restaurant, one of which was us. No reservation needed. Food was acceptable. Nothing special about it.
Restaurant adjacent to the lobby inside Hotel Arista, ample parking. Modern dining room. Limited "Brunch" menu, pricey breakfast items, good food, attentive service, enjoyable experience.
Trash straight trash. Will never go back this place is the worst place I have ever been at. Server might have been stoned and management was awful
We went for lunch during restaurant week. It was really quiet and the food was great. Really a great value at restaurant week.
Service was poor. Food was mediocre. The wine pairing was eliminated and choices very common. We enjoyed NYE 2016 at sugar toad so decided to return. We will not go back for 2018,
Had an unfortunate experience at sugar toad. Made reservations on open table, but checked the menu first since it was New Year's Eve. The menu was reasonable. When we arrived, however, we were presented with a fixed menu at $110 a person. Not at all what we had expected and certainly not what he had been posted as the menu through OpenTable. We decided to leave. I spoke to the manager as we left. He was very polite and surprised that their special menu had not appeared through the OpenTable app. But he offered nothing but A lame apology. As a result, I Can't really comment on food or service. Ambience, however, was underwhelming.
New Year's Eve
Some of the food was cold or stale. Hard to get refills on our drinks. The place was empty. You would think the service would be a little quicker. The $35 per person was a little over priced for the quality. I would not go back.
For an upscale restaurant, we were extremely disappointed with the service. It was not busy but we still had to ask why what taking so long for our drinks. Unfortunately, the inattentiveness continued. Four of us split 2 Ceasar salads and they left it to us to divide. Never had that occur at any other high end restaurant. Refills on water were not up to par. Overall, not a good experience compared to Capital Grille, Eddie Merlot's or Sullivan's for example.
Extremely cozy, intimate dinig experience. Small restaurant, adjacent off hotel lobby. Very relaxing, Staff most attentive. Great service & food. Limited brunch menu, bit pricey. Definitely will return.
We celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary here and would definitely return. The food was outstanding...a little high priced, but well worth it. My wife had the fettuccine with scallops, mussels, clams and shrimp. The scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. The presentation was great as well. I had the ribeye, which was fantastic and cooked to perfection. The Caesar salad was delicious as well. We arrived earlier than our reservation, but we're seated immediately. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic...perfect for a romantic dinner or special occasion. It was a tad noisy because of a wedding cocktail reception in the adjoining bar area, but it was not a distraction. Our server was exceptional. We even got a champagne toast in honor of our anniversary. I would definitely return! This is truly a hidden gem outside the river walk area of Naperville.
I was disappointed in that the menu was limited. The food was excellent, but would have like more of a variety in salads and entrees.
First time I've ever dined at a restarant this fancy - expensive, but excellent food. Server was helpful and friendly. Bar area was slightly noisy.
We always enjoy SugarToad because the food quality and taste is consistently delightful and the service is consistently outstanding.
Service a mite slow, but polite...menu rather limited, pasta dish a gloppy mess but filet and ribeye cooked properly...can't say that for half the "steakhouses " around here...ambience here a problem...it's the resto for the Arista hotel; just has that feel, almost gave a rm # for my bill...so not a destination, and a bit pricey.
The food was excellent and the environment was conducive to conversation. We will be back again.
Absolutely perfect experience. I follow a vegan diet and they were not only very knowledgable, but went out of their way to offer multiple variations of their normal menu items to accommodate me. The vegetable tempura was great. I had a vegetable paella. Their strawberry salad was great. A special desert was created with peaches, avocados and strawberries which was the best desert I have had in a long time. I would recommend any vegan come here at least once. Great wine selection. Service was spectacular. Definitely coming back.
