Food was wonderful. Very unique flavors, and everything was delicious and served quickly.
Great! Will come again soon and bring friends. Lovely
Outstanding food. Familiar but creative cuisine. Hidden gem this place.
Great service! Delicious food! We will definitely go back next year.
Allowed us to change our reservation through open table. Then received an email that noted our reservation time was slotted back to our original time. This happened twice. No one called about this for an explanation. We called the front desk to ask why this happened, reason stated was that the restaurant is too small and that times cannot be changed as it messes up the chef schedule. My bf went to front desk staff to get clarification and was met with unprofessionalism and rudeness. We were told that the restaurant was not at full capacity but then the dining manager stated that they were and that was the reason our reservation time couldn’t be changed. All while every single slot on open table was open. Front desk staff even rudely stated we had to eat at that time or not eat there at all while walking away mid conversation. Really the entire situation made absolutely no sense and was an awful way to spend my birthday dinner. We felt VERY unwelcome and uncomfortable.
We explained the situation to these guys multiple times and they didn't want to accept that we are a small restaurant. They made a reservation for a specific time and were mad when we couldn't change it to someone else's time. Restaurant reservation times are for the chef and not really for the guest. The chef needs to be able to pace what is being prepared. A small fine dining restaurant is very different from a large facility.
Dinner was delicious!...Service was excellent!...Great table next to the fireplace! :)
My husband and I absolutely loved the 3 course dinner and dessert! Everything was delicious! The staff was very attentive and really friendly people. The atmosphere was very romantic with the beautiful fireplace lit. We really enjoyed our dinner and will be dining there again for my husbands birthday!
Update: I have noticed the owner of this establishment routinely leaves unprofessional and disrespectful responses to fair reviews, and mine was no different, with the owner blatantly saying I lied in my review. I would never disrespect a customer this way and I will not be visiting or recommending this restaurant again until it is under new, professional ownership.
The dining room was beautiful with large comfortable chairs and a real fireplace going. The food was phenomenal and our server Jacob was wonderful and very helpful as we had not been there before.
I gave this review four stars instead of five for a few reasons. One of the staff members was not as professional as a fine dining restaurant staff member should be, at one point laying down across one of the couches with their feet on the couch and wrapped in a blanket. For the first half of the dinner there was no music playing so there was an awkward silence, once they put some soft music on it was much more comfortable.
Lastly, and really the biggest reason for the lack of five stars is the portion size of the scallop meal in the third course. I got the espresso-rubbed sirloin and it was a good-sized portion with three large pieces of sirloin and four truffle-potato balls. At the same time my boyfriend's scallop plate came with nothing but three scallops on the plate. It seemed to be very disproportionate and disappointing so I gave him one of my sirloin pieces. All of the food was incredible but that was a let down. Because of that we actually declined dessert and went to a different restaurant for drinks and dessert after dinner.
Thank you for your review. We just wanted to clarify that nobody is taking a nap in the dinner service and putting their feet up!! February is one of the busiest months of the year. There is valuable feedback in this review, but that one goes too far. Staff can sit down in the bar area if they need to. We don't have the time to lie down during the shift. We have pride in the Sugar Hill Inn and we're not snoozing in front of the guests. YIKES!
Amazing food and service!
The place is a bit old but I guess this is the charm!
Only minus was they don’t looks happy if you bring kids!
Even if we can just get regular menu for them the place is mostly for couples!
Perfect ambiance. Unique entrees and flavor profile.
What can I say??!! Phenomenal experience from the light snow falling as we approached to the dessert...staff was exceptional and on point...the food was at a level that my wife and I have never experienced prior...if you ever find yourself in the area a must reservation...heck I’d go back just for the Sugar Hill Inn!!
Wonderful romantic getaway, everyone was pleasant...especially during these hard times. No need for concern with cleanliness and safety. There wasn’t an uncomfortable situation and look forward to going back!!
My husband and I spent Valentine's Day here and it was absolutely worth it. I work in the wine industry and they have one of the best cheese & charcuterie plates I've seen at a restaurant. If you are in the area I highly recommend this place - service was great and we loved the cocktails too!
A true gem! Our dinner was fantastic...the food was comparable to that which I’ve had at highly sought after restaurants in Boston. If we find ourselves in the area for dinner again, I’d love to come back. The setting is a quaint New England Inn, and very charming. Highly recommend!!
Our 2nd time back ! The food is amazing! Love the ambiance! Wonderful service!
Beautiful place and the food and service was excellent. Will definitely be returning!
Our reservation was moved out on us by 15 minutes without our knowing, that was certainly a surprise. Dinner was good but our server didn’t know the menu or what he was serving, he was very polite though.
We had so looked forward to our stay at the Inn. We had visited 2 years ago and everything then was just amazing....This time I hate to say wasn't the same experience....Our room was just okay and the dinner just wasn't very good....Food was barely warm and I had to send my fish back it was raw inside.....The breakfast which was over the top last time was lukewarm eggs no frills and no homemade pastry......To make matters worse we had brought our friends since we had bragged about the Inn so much.....So very disappointing....I so hope things will be improving....As of now I won't be returning or recommending the Sugar Hill Inn
It was amazing from beginning to end . Staff was great , beautiful space and food phenomenal.
Sugar Hill Inn was a great restaurant. Great food and great service!
The menu for New Year's Eve day was very limited and expensive. Oh, but so good. Value is low because of the cost per amount.
My party had a lobster bisque, frisee salad, and the terrine! All were delicious. Dinner consisted of the steak, duck and 3 scallops. Without a doubt delicious, but for the price? For dessert, the frozen egg nog souffle was loved by my party. Never had anywhere else, and oh, oh so good. Did not mind paying for that!
Chef and staff were very helpful in accommodating my wife's dietary restrictions (GF & DF), and she said the food was delicious. And, my meal from start to finish was out of this world great!
Amazing food and atmosphere....
The staff was amazing, I will eat here again when I stay here again
Booked your dream cottage for its amenities and were extremely disappointed that we could not use the fireplace. There was also soot all over the walls and the tile in bathroom needs to be regrouted, we did love the location. We also dined at the restaurant and felt it did not live up to its reputation as claimed.
My Wife & I loved Sugar Hill Inn. Food was A+ and the flavors perfectly balanced.
Would gladly return again if I’m ever in that part of New England. Highly recommended for a special occasion or intimate dinner.
Despite there being very few patrons the waitress got 1 order completely wrong and reversed to other orders. My salmon appetizer he was supposed to come with bagel chips and it came with some strange crackers that altered the taste of the salmon. The salad was excellent. The steak was good but did not have a lot of flavor. The apple strudel dessert was excellent. This was a very different experience from our last meal there 2 years ago that was outstanding in every way.
Typically when you dine out on a holiday as special at Thanksgiving or any other holiday, the food and the menu don't have many choices and even the best of restaurants can come off mediocre. This was NOT the case with Sugar Hill. We had one of the best meals we have had in recent memory. The choices were fantastic and we loved them all, especially the filet mignon. The fall sangria was also wonderful. Overall a perfect 10 from me! I highly recommend
Amazing food, superb service, fireplace right next to our table was awesome.
Beyond our expectations! Delicious food, cozy atmosphere with wood burning fireplace for ambiance, attentive service and an excellent selection of wines made this a memorable dining experience. The dining room is intimate and elegant. The service is relaxed so that we could enjoy each course. The food was plated to perfection. We cannot wait for a return visit.
Taking a break from CoVid by having a safe roadtrip, we planned to spoil ourselves with an “elegant” dinner out...having researched restaurants near Franconia and having stayed in the area before and having observed the Inn while driving to and from our top-of-the hill accommodations...attractive outside, welcoming...it seemed. Made our reservations online...no problem. Arrived on time...no problem. Good greeting on arrival, prompt seating, adhering to CoVid protocols. Service was good...fairly attentive server. We knew the meal prices were high...after all, we were seeking top-notch. Noted that we’d share a salad...which the kitchen didn’t split plate nor were we given two smaller plates on which to transfer our ‘sharing portions’. Thus, we shuttled the salad across the table for ‘my bite-your bite’ sorta like a hockey dosey-do! For our main courses, we decided to each get a different one...she the duck, me the scallops...for $36 and $34. Expected something GREAT...got something disappointing, relatively minuscule, and lukewarm!
The duck arrived just barely warm...and we debated asking for it to be reheated...afraid of what that might entail...in time and in quality. Decided to request that help...10 minutes later (while the other meal was getting cold) it came back - barely warmer than when it departed from us...BUT the squash side WAS warmer! The duck was also a bit grisly (??sp) and, together with the squash and the decorative flimsy greens on top, fairly small and unappetizing. The scallops, meanwhile, on one of those l-o-o-n-g plates, ALL FOUR of them, were likewise camouflaged by sprinkled flimsy greens and with little else...more of a one person appetizer than a full-fledged main course. The scallops, however, even in their cool state, were tasty...even though minimal in number.
We went back to our lodging - disappointed and hungry...and relieved of quite a stash of cash!
No chance we’ll be back on our annual pilgrimage to the area...!!
Very good experience, and food made with love. Food quality and presentation were phenomenal!
The food was delicious and so beautifully plated! I enjoyed every bite. A rundown from start to finish: I made a reservation for 6:00 pm weeks in advance for my Husband’s birthday. We dine on the early side as we have an almost five year old. The reservation was rescheduled twice without anyone contacting me. We were able to get in for 6:30, so not a huge issue, but I do wish I would have been contacted. We arrived at the Inn and the receptionist greeted us, showed us the restrooms and brought us to our table. She told us they do not have a kid’s menu as they don’t usually host children. That was fine, but I was a little nervous that we had missed the “no children allowed rule.” I reviewed Opentable and the Inn’s website and did not see a prohibition on children for the restaurant (the Inn itself is adults only). Any fears I had melted away when the hostess brought over colored pencils and a sketch pad for my daughter. So very kind and made us feel at ease. Our server was ok, a little abrupt and cold, but the hostess was far more warm and welcoming. We started with a half bottle of Moscato, which was divine and followed by another half bottle. I had the butternut squash risotto and my Husband had the cheese plate. Both were excellent. The salads we both had were so beautifully plated. This was my least favorite course (because salad), but it was still superb. For entrees, I had the hanger steak and my husband the scallops. I loved everything about my steak and it came with the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had! So creamy and buttery. My husband said he didn’t love the scallops, but he has an unrefined pallet and prefers Mountain Dew and Cheetos to fine dining. We finished with dessert, and here again, the hostess went out of her way to let us know what was available for our daughter. Dessert was yummy and comforting and a nice finish to the meal. I highly recommend the Sugar Hill Inn.
Drinks were very good. Entree was great. The Apple square desert was EXCELLENT!
We were very impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant and the presentation of the food.
The staff was very attentive and pleasant and personable.
We are definitely returning for our anniversary.
Thank you so much for an enjoyable evening.
Mironda & Megan
Get the crab cake!!
30 minutes past our reservation time we finally saw our waitress. 45 minutes later we received bread and our wine. After multiple complaints to the hostess we left at 50 minutes post reservation time having not received first course. I hear that the food is incredible, but unfortunately we did not get to sample.
The atmosphere was great. Staff very friendly. Food was VERY slow coming out. Next time I will plan tonstatbthe evening!!
The setting and ambiance are very welcoming. The food was excellent. Only complaint was the service was a bit slow, perhaps the staff was slightly overwhelmed on a packed evening. But again, beautiful welcoming setting and excellent cuisine.
Perfect experience! I couldn’t ask for anything to be better!
