This is an outstanding restaurant - we eat there early and don't stay for the music and we find the service and the quality of food both excellent. Highly recommended. Tell your friends.

Over the many years I have visited New York City, this was my first time at the Sugar Bar. It will not be my last! An exceptional evening of fine dining and music! Sharing New York with a friend on her first visit to the city, was the right enhancement to have this restaurant/club destination. Thank you Ashford (RIH) and Simpson! To top it off, after returning to my city, I heard an interview with Valerie Simpson on the Real Jazz with Joe McBride. I learned that Sugar Bar has been around for 21 years and Ashford and Simpson bought the building years ago! #Proudandgrateful! Blessings!

I came from Baltimore to celebrate my Harlem Daughter ‘s birthday. Her and her husband didn’t make it so me and my best friend had a wonderful time. The jazz band was amazing. I’d recommend the grilled snapper from presentation to tasting delicious!

The Hostess was totally on point! Wait staff attentive.

I’ll be back with friends!

The staff and waiter were friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent. My only complaint is that the food and drinks took too long to be served. I had to rush through the meal so I could get to my show on time.

The food was great. The drinks were, not too bad. Caught the happy hour so got reduced prices. The service was not the best or the worst I’ve received. The live band that was there this night, DJ and the yams were absolutely amazing. Must go back to see them. We also got to meet Ms. Simpson. She was super cool and down to earth. Good vibes at this place.

Really looked forward to date night in the city with my lady friend but this wasn’t what I expected. The room looked like a local bar on the corner of any street USA
Very small and if you needed to use a restroom you would need to pull a table out to exit.
Service was slow and not welcoming
Disappointed to say the least

Had a great time. The atmosphere was good and staff was friendly and good for the most part. I think an extra waiter would’ve made it even better, as our waiter was overbooked so we had extra wait time for service. The food was excellent and the music was great. We would definitely come back.

I went to the Sugar Bar restaurant for the 1st time with a relative from out of town. The experience there was quite impressive. The place was cozy with candlelight in each table. The restaurant also had a beautiful Islandish decor effect to it. The staff were all pleasant and the service was great. The food dish that we had of blackened salmon, cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and collared greens were very fresh and very tasty. We also were blessed with live Jazz entertainment on the night that we came there and the cover charge was very reasonable for the event. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We go to the Sugar Bar periodically for live jazz as one of our favourite bands plays there. Good ambience, great music, good food, great cocktails (the Manhattan is terrific). Will be going there for years to come.

Fantastic comfort food with great live music. Family style seating for much of the space turned out to be super fun. Service was a little slow but the great value and generous portions made it worthwhile. Drinks were strong so slow service was probably a good thing!

As always the Sugar Bar experience was fantastic!! Hugo the manager who helped with my reservation was on point. The evening was a birthday celebration for my cousin who wanted to have 15 family/friends in attendance. However because of the weather and distance (South Jersey) we ended up with just 5 of us. Hugo and the Sugar Bar made adjustments and a great time was still had by all.

We ate before a show. Did not stay for the show. It was nice and quiet until folks began arriving after 7 for an 8 pm show. The food was delicious. The Mac & cheese was fabulous. I enjoyed the jerk wings. They weren’t too spicy. The BBQ Salmon was different and flavorful. The greens were also good and so was the fried fish. Will definitely return. Kui was absolutely attentive and made us feel right at home.

they don't tell you about the $10 cover charge in advance but as long as you're there long enough to watch the musicians it's worth the investment. The food is good, drinks are great and the service was wonderful. Watching Valerie Simpson perform was the highlight of the night.

Soul food. Good choices, tasty. Friendly wait staff. Atmosphere OK, but tables/seating arrangement 2 thumbs down. Very cranped seating & narrow. Very small venue. Row seatiing which required the table to be pulled out to get in & out. Tables were close to each other. Did not like sitting across from the rest room. It would have been been less bothersome if what faced me was the sink, but i think dim votive lights in restroom lights & arranging the sink being what you faced rather than the toilet. Very offputting. I would go again only if i could choose my seating. Music was good.
