Restaurant was understaffed for Vday weekend. Took us 10
Minutes to be greeted at the bar. Martinis were watered down and tasteless. Felt bad for the bartender because she had no support. We paid our tab and left instead of eating. Won’t be back.
Great experience! We had the Valentines Day Course and it was great. The service was excellent, and the the ambiance was just right. We will be coming back!
Great food, excellent service, all was very professional. Super experience.
We had the Chinese New Years dinner Tuesday. Because of the inclement weather the restaurant was not busy. There were 4 courses, amuse bouche, multiple appetizers, 6-7 entrees and dessert. As befitting a Suzanna Foo restaurant the dishes were expertly prepared, and one could not fault any of the dishes. The fried Branzino with sweet and sour sauce deserves special mention. We have patronized Suzanna Foo’s restaurants for several decades. She deserves her place in Philadelphia culinary history.
Unfortunately our evening was a bit of a disappointment. Our server was rarely available and our therefore we spent entirely too much time waiting. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy - but clearly our server was in the weeds. 3 of our entrees arrived cold - while the others were delivered piping hot.
When we expressed our disappointment- they brought Susanna over to our table. She couldn’t have cared less, and I am not sure if she could have appeared any less engaged or invested.
I think Suga might be best at lunch or sitting at the bar? The food was delicious, but the service and attitude really diminished our experience. Susanna should stick to behind the scenes - she does nothing to help the front of the house.
I have dined there many times. The food is always delicious. This time we had excellent salads for late lunch - one chicken, one duck. Although there were few diners, the service was much slower than usual. I will still return and recommend it to friends.
It was The Day of the Pig (2/5/19) and the restaurant was packed, yet we were seated, in the back, within 5 minutes. Then we sat, no water, no server, no nothing. I reached out to the server who was bringing water to a table of 10 behind us and enter "Claire". Claire said that she wasn't our server and didn't know where she had gone, but Claire provided us the most gracious, competent and enjoyable service that we could ever want. Hats off to Claire who turned a, potentially, bad situation into a wonderful evening!!! By the way, the food was real good too!!
SuGa has the perfect menu to celebrate Chinese New Year! The family style Chinese New year special menu is designed to serve 4 or more people, and our party only has three persons. They were, however, very accommodating and were able to serve us almost all items from the menu. The food quality was great, as usual, and the wine recommended by our server complimented the food nicely. Everyone was happy after finishing the banquet quality Chinese New Year Eve dinner in this nice setting.
It was alittle disappointing. Service was good. Tight quarters getting to dining area. Food was okay but not as good as expected.
Food was excellent as was the service. We didn't have the best table and they didn't have availability to move us. We were in bar area which was very tight and drafty. Regardless, would go there again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed another great meal at SUGA. We had a great table in the rear. Our server was incredibly accommodating, friendly and really enhanced the experience on a cold night. The crab & Shrimp wanton soup really hit the spot. My partner gobbled up the pot stickers. The Kung Pao chicken and the Sesame Cilantro chicken were both great. Large portions, tasty and well prepared. SUGA is very reasonable given the quality of the food. There are reasonably priced bottles of wine. It is fast becoming a go to restaurant for us. We are never disappointed.
Great food and service! Highly recommend the dumpling sampler.
Order the wild mushroom dumplings. Devour them. Order them again. Devour them again. They are superb. The BEST item on the menu. Don't miss them.
Excellent experience during restaurant week. Great options on the menu. Very attentive service.
Our meal during Restaurant Week was absolutely delicious. But, if possible, the service even eclipsed the food as our waiter provided care and kindness as well as timely, efficient service.
This was the first visit and it was restaurant week. The rice with lentils was very tasty. Enjoyed the Butternut Squash Soup and the cauliflower carrot tomato dish. My husband had the soup and the crispy shrimp dish and he was happy with all as well. I would go there again to try the standard menu.
Disappointed in the flavors of the food we ordered. The dishes were bland. The service was very good.
To be completely up-front, we went during restaurant week. Our waiter was nice but brought the wrong entree and green tea when I asked for jasmine. I felt like the table next to us was in our conversation. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table with a reservation. We can get better service and ambience elsewhere.
We brought our 3yo for Restaurant Week and had a good meal for a very reasonable cost. Our favorites were the ginger soda, short ribs, salmon and cab poached pears.
Best Chinese food you may ever have in your life. The chocolate cake was a perfect ending. The jewel box space creates an intimate space that elevates the dining experience.
Food was very tasty and dishes beautifully prepared.
It was restaurant week and this restaurant used the ocasion to show its stuff!
Wow - what a meal - delicious with great service and calming ambiance. Can not wait to go there again.....
The food was amazing and well worth the trip for Restaurant Week.
This is a wonderful Chinese restaurant with delicate flavor that is exquisite!
I’ve had an outstanding meal there in the past, so was surprised my meal this time was just good
The knocked it out of the park
Very disappointing. Popcorn pork ravioli appetizer had no taste at all. I asked for a sauce to try to make it better and it did not. My wife's butternut squash soup was ridiculously sweet. I like things sweet and it was so sweet that I did not want more than my first taste. We both got the same main course of crispy wild shrimp (I think that is what it was called) and while it was pretty good, it was for all intents and purposes General Tao's Shrimp.
I would have expected the offer of a replacement for my appetizer since I just ate a tiny bit and the server was aware of my opinion, and that did not occur. We asked for a table that was warm, near the back, and half way through our meal a very cold draft made for even less of a positive experience.
Haven eaten at Susannah Foo's on Walnut Street back in the day, with some outstanding dining experiences, we were quite surprised at the severe difference.
Great cocktails! The scallop ceviche was insane!
Can’t wait to go back! Food was incredible. Great for sharing.
Food was very good but a bit disappointing on the flavor profile given the Jams Beard reference.
New Years Eve, great food and service, ambiance could be prettier, especially private rooms
Awesome meal at SuGa with a large group for NYE. Enjoyed sharing our entrees - monk fish, Sichuan shrimp, and scallop dinner. All were prepared and presented in a unique way and all tasted amazing. Enjoyed their original cocktails including The Lotus along with an assortment of appetizers - dumplings and popcorn pork ravioli!!! We will come back again and again. Thanks for opening this up Susana it’s really great!
Absolutely fantastic, dumplings are to die for. Service was excellent and fast.
Food was really delicious, well-executed, and not too salty (unlike so many other fancy Chinese restaurants). The mushroom dumplings were amazing and I also really liked the eggplant and Mongolian lamb. The only low point was the tapioca dessert which was a little bland but otherwise I was very impressed!
The food is always excellent at this upscale Chinese restaurant. Decor is sleek but warm and inviting. Overall ambiance is great. Service is superb. Lunch or dinner equally appealing.
Great time for a holiday meal! We enjoyed the ‘Christmas Story’ vibe...
Great food and service, wonderful Asian takeoff's!
Our waitress was having s rough night and we waited a while for drinks and desert but everything else was great. Wayyyyy busier than last year though.
