First time here for dinner (had come here for lunch before). Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend. The only issues we had came before we got there and right as we arrived. Issues #1: We tried calling multiple times before we got there to see if bringing our own wine was OK and what the corkage fee was. No answer after multiple after 3 tries. We brought the wine with us anyway and were finally able to get someone on the phone on the car ride there. Issues #2: When we got there, we were immediately seated which was great, but it took a loooooong time before a server or anyone acknowledged us. Probably a full 5-8 minutes. But I am pleased to say that after that inauspicious start, everything else was great. Staying true to their pig logo, we went mostly with bacon/pork/meat dishes. Country Meatloaf was great- great flavor, especially the hot sausage in it, perfect texture- not too dry, and the bacon gravy was enjoyable as well. Bacon wrapped scallops- the scallops were slightly overcooked but the flavor was good. Fried Brussel sprouts- exactly what it sounds like, nothing special but very solid. Short rib was to die for- great flavor, juicy, moist. Desserts were good too. They substituted a different kind of ice cream in my sundae that I requested, so that was nice of them to accommodate that. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable. At the end, I was shocked that our bill was only $112. For two apps, two entrees, and two desserts (no drinks because we brought our wine) I felt that was good value for what we received. And they didn't charge us corkage. Bottom line, it was an enjoyable experience and I would definitely return.
Very pricey for the amount of food you get. Service..Eh we got better service from the food runners than anyone else. It was good but nothing spectacular.
We decided to share two appetizers and a main dish. Making those choices was extremely difficult because so many things on the menu sounded wonderful. We settled on the Brussel Sprouts and the bacon wrapped diver scallop for our appetizers. The Brussel sprouts were caramelized with balsamic vinegar and bacon. The scallops were cooked perfectly as was the bacon. The sauce has some heat to it and made for an interesting juxtaposition of flavors.
Our main dish was the three little pigs. Gorgeous presentation and amazing flavors. The pork was fork tender and the potatoes crispy.
It was my birthday and Succulent treated me to a fabulous caramel cheesecake with a delicate crust, was amazing and also wonderfully complementary to the rest of our meal. We will be back to try more of the menu.
First, I love dishes that are well thought out. You can easily tell original ideas from copy cats, and that originality is hard to find on the Central Coast. I had the "Three Little Pigs" entre, and bacon on a pork loin might sound too oinky, but I found they complemented each other deliciously. The dab of pork vermouth sauce (the third pig I presume), the creamed spinach, and potato cake foundation (yes, each bite should have all three on your fork) resulted in a great composition. Bravo. Our party shared the scallops and brussell sprout appetizers, both excellent and made with twists on these typical dishes, and we ordered them with a crisp yet smooth bottle of Viognier from Kaena, a local winery (a great buy for $30). Also worth noting, as soon as we sat down, I realized we weren't battling the typical loud music and poor acoustics where we have to shout to hear each other. The music is soft and the ceilings lower, which allowed for easy conversation and an intimate feel. Marty our waitress was attentive, knowledgable, accommodating, and personable. I came with my mom and sisters, and will now return with my husband for a romantic dinner. Succulent Cafe in one sexy restaurant.
Wonderful location, good service and ambience. Rack of lamb was the star of the show. Duck disappointing - overcooked and no crispy skin, with rice and cauliflower basic and dull. Charcuterie and cheese top shelf though. Simple and super reasonable local wine list, with an excellent wine-based spirits cocktail list. Overall a fantastic restaurant if you’re visiting Solvang, right up there with First and Oak.
Had dinner there which was excellent. Also had breakfast one morning which was good but not as good as dinner
My spouse and I spent the afternoon wandering around town and wanted something a bit different. The café had southern fried chicken and greens, with macaroni and cheese. We shared a bacon sundae afterward which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, the service was attentive and the food quite delicious.
Host was polite but 2 lady servers were horrible and extremely rude.
enjoyed everything except the flatbread. Didn't like the crust, but loved the toppings including the fennel sausage. Truffle fries were exceptional, the bacon wrapped scallops were delicious, despite being a bit overcooked. No complaints on the wonderful Sundae with candied bacon....oh MY!
Service was great.
Had a wonderful dinner and dessert. The food was very fresh and delicious and the service was excellent. Highly recommend Succulent!
Food was spotty. Service was good. It was a bit noisy. Oujtside dining was nice but there were bees.
If you like wine and charcuterie this is a great option. They don’t have an extensive menu and the meatloaf and tenderloin are not prepared the traditional way and just ok. Complimentary bread was good. Server was great although it seemed he was the only one working the tables outside that day.
Another fabulous and satisfying meal from one of our local go-to restaurants. This meal from the 3rd Wednesday Pre fixe menu was an exceptionally good value. Smaller more manageable portions that were just right. Our favorite server had us laughing out loud with shared stories. The support wait staff were friendly and responsive to our requests. We prefer to sit inside because, while we love dogs we’re a bit weary of other guests who have their dogs on the patio outside and disturbances are created when strange dogs are close together
Awesome peach cobbler!! Fried Chicken was moist, fish cooked perfectly! Server pleasant.
Wonderful food! Good wine selection. Indoor and outdoor dining available. A must if in Solvang.
The food at the Succulent Café was amazing! I will say I had ordered a second side of vegetables with my meal instead of mashed potatoes and I received 1 order and it was quite small at that. While it did not lack flavor it was a little disappointing. The service was amazing, we never had to wait for drink or bread refills. Overall, the food was good even if the portions were small. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Service was solid, seated fast, but food was not so great. Steak was legit, but fried chicken was hard (over cooked) and mac and cheese was nothing to write home about. For the price, it was underwhelming. Ambient was great, however, so if they can get their food up to par, it would be a gem.
Best dinner we had during our trip. Everything from the drinks to the food was way above average. Knew we were in for a treat from the ice tea. It was sun tea which you rarely come across. My wife had the pena, she couldn't stop saying how good it was. I had the cattlemen cut. Nice size with mashed potato and vegetables. Everything done to perfection. To finish it off we had the flourless chocolate cake. decadent, well worth it. To finish the whole experience was our server, Kelly D. Thanks for the attention it made the evening. If your in Solvang you can chose all those tourist restaurants with the same food and noisy atmosphere. Or have a dinner experience at the Succulent Cafe. Thanks for a great dinner!
Really enjoyed our dinner and wine experience at Succulent. Fantastic service!
This was our second visit to Succulent Cafe. The menu item I ordered the first time was so good that I was tempted to order it again but I ordered a different item and it was well worth it. I now have two favorite items to choose from, or a new item to consider when we go again. Thank you for a great meal, served by a wonderful staff.
We had a wonderful time. My Alaskan Halibut was seasoned perfectly as we enjoyed our date at the outside table with our two dogs.
Lovely time, delicious food. Please add my open table reservation points.
Food was delicious and we had a great waiter. We requested an outside table and it was perfect weather. I made a reservation for 6:00 pm (play was at 8:00) and they sat us right away. We started with the charcuterie and cheese platter, which everyone enjoyed. I had a delicious soup and ordered a salad for dinner. The salad was just okay, nothing special. My husband had the 3 little pigs and it was delicious, cooked perfectly. The dinner is a little pricey but that seems to be par for the course in Solvang. I would definitely eat there again.
The pastry chef, Susie, ageed to make us a birthday cake and it was THE BEST CAKE I have ever eaten! Many thanks to Succulent Café for making this a delicious meal and special celebration. (That was on July 11, so I am late getting this survey back to you.)
I’d rather be leaving a good review but am searching hard to find something good to say. It came highly recommended and we had high hopes but they quickly diminished due to poor service, actually nearly non existent service. The drinks and food didn’t improve our experience much either. We ordered a simple salad which was OK and ended up being the highlight of the meal, sad to say. The pizza was confusing as usually such a thin crust flatbread is either not done enough or burnt when not done right. This seemed to look perfect but you could barely chew the gummy substance but looking at the positives we burned some calories trying to eat a couple slices each. We would have complained but there wasn’t anyone at the table for 15 minutes at a time. The tables around us didn’t seem to fare much better as I heard two different times “would you like a box?” for the heaping amounts of leftovers no doubt. To which the answer both times was “no thank you” but never anyone to check in and ask if everything was at least OK or even good. Disappointing and not cheap either. I mentioned to the hostess on the way out we were disappointed and wouldn’t be back when visiting next time. Restaurant of the year in Solvang for 2019? Hmmmmm
I was not impressed with my $18 hamburger, the tomato slices were not ripe and the lettuce was wilted. My wife's Martino pizza was only okay, the sausage was tasty but the rest wasn't. Service was very good, very attentive.
We had a great meal and Tai, our waiter, was excellent!!
Lovely outdoor patio, yummy biscuits and preserves, kid friendly.
Who don’t come back
Servers are nice and work hard
Owner is absent and seems more concerned about overhead than a quality dining experience
Service was very warm and friendly and genuine. The food is delicious and menu very creative. Portions are very generous and you leave feeling like you left a friend’s house, not a restaurant. Highly recommended!
Great restaurant. Ended up going twice.
We love this place. Shrimp and grits were amazing. Wine selection is great. We did not like the 3 pigs entree. Best bisquits EVER!!!!
Love this place. A family favorite great for a simple family dinner or a family occasion. Or even the rare date night😇 Food is fabulous. And Kelly takes great care of us every time!
I haven’t eaten in Solvang for my years, this reservation was made solely on others’ reviews. Three of us all ordered different main dishes and were not wowed by our heavy, not so yummy choices. The charcuterie looked good on someone else’s table as we were leaving...maybe we just misordered.
Great dining experience.
Wonderful dishes to choose from on the menu.
Great service & charming ambiance.
Expensive and uninspired. Upscale prices for mediocre food. Will not return
We had a wonderful charcuterie plate that was just enough for a light dinner. The staff was very conscious of our gluten allergy and made sure to let us know that our food was gluten free.
The service was very good. I ordered the spicy hen. It was good but I thought it was a little over priced. My husband had the three little pigs. He said it was good but maybe another vegetable on his plate would be nice.
We had a light dinner. The best salad was very good. I recommend their version of a margarita.
Very polite and friendly staff, delicious food and a great drink selection.
