A progressive perspective of classic Southern favorites. James Beard Award nominee Edward Lee brings his Korean roots and Southern repertoire to a soulful Southern menu.

SUCCOTASH is named after the classic dish that has been a longstanding staple of the Southern table. While many know “Succotash” when they see it, the dish has been interpreted, modified and passed from generation to generation for centuries. While Succotash between families will share similarities, each family’s recipe is deeply personal and reminiscent of those special suppers that brings kin together. Our “Succotash” is special to us and we invite you to experience the South from our point of view.

I love Southern food so I was really excited to try this place. The overall look of the place is nice and warm. The service was great. The food was mediocre if you ask me and if you ask my husband it wasn’t good at all. I had fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The chicken was good. The macaroni was off. I love macaroni and cheese and I always have to try it whenever a restaurant has it. This one was too oily and too rich. The collards were not my favorite. I understand that some people like them tart and some like them with some sweetness. These are tart and I like mine with some tart and sweet so I’ll just chalk it up to different taste. I had the seasonal cobbler but to me it wasn’t a cobbler it was a cinnamon cake that had a little fruit baked into it, it was good but not a cobbler. Overall I would go here again if someone made the arrangements but I wouldn’t plan it myself.

Making my reservation was simple but I called to ensure that I had made the right selections for the number or guests I was bringing with me. The Reservationists was nice and understood my concern. I had to make a change and she was very accommodating with my increase of guests. My husband and I stopped by to check out our seating arrangement and again I received the best care. We arrived right at opening and the staff was ready to receive us. The atmosphere and food was enjoyed by all. Succotash made it easy to say, "I will be back".

After waiting quite a long time for our appetizer and mentioning it to our waitress, she replied that she had nothing to do with delivering our food... very poor customer service/response. Ironically, the restaurant is name after one of the signature dishes which tasted freezer burned... also, one of the crew touches all the forks with her fingers after picking them out of the dishwasher container, very unsanitary then she picks up her phone.... this is the 2nd time visiting and the last time!

i went here for my birthday brunch and it was bomb. we went to the harbor and the place was pretty on the inside, prices were regular i’d say since it was a nice place. food wise the shrimp n’ grits were the best part, the waffles tasted like funnel cake (and we’re delicious) and the chicken was crispy though it could’ve been seasoned more but that’s me being picky and their mimosa’s were the right amount of strong. The service was 10/10, our waiter constantly checked on us, he was patient and very polite. we were seated swiftly and the experience was a pleasant one, i will be back for sure

Prior to visiting the National Harbor, I checked reviews on various Restaurants & selected Succotash as one of the Restaurants to celebrate my Hubby's Birthday! We selected the Taste of the South which provided a more than ample sampling of the Menu! It was DELICIOUS !! We had to take a major portion of it home as it was too much for us to eat in one setting!😋 Dillon, our Server, was very good in providing a Great Experience! Keith, the Manager, was awesome in ensuring that the food was delivered fresh & hot to the patrons! Kudos to the Chefs as this was an amazing culinary experience!!

From the moment I walked in the door the service was incredible. They noted my uncommon but serious food allergy and checked every single item I wanted to order to make sure it was safe for me to eat. They even saved me from a reaction by noting that the shrimp was cooked in a broth that included my allergen! The succotash itself was the best I have ever tasted. Each individual ingredient sang with flavor and the combined textures were delightful. My salmon was perfectly cooked. The French fries taste like what McDonald's fries dream of being. I ordered desserts to go and they were packaged carefully and thoughtfully. The banana pudding was incredibly luscious and the cobbler was so flavourful! I was fully satisfied with my experience. I hope to return!

I have been looking forward to having shrimp and grits at Succotash since the first time I walked past the F Street location in Washington. For our anniversary, I made a reservation at the National Harbor location. We arrived early, but the staff seated us promptly. It was graduation season, and the celebratory noise level was elevated. Our server offered us seating in a separate room with a new server. No one told her it was our anniversary. Happily, we arrived on the cusp of brunch and dinner. The best of both worlds! The sticky buns and crudite with pimento cheese, buttermilk biscuits, and apple butter from the brunch menu ushered us into a delicious interlude. Fr dinner my husband ordered the steak, but I realized that he forgot to order side dishes. After the new server reminded us that the sides were ala carte, the hubster ordered collards since, after all, this is Southern cuisine, and I was having the shrimp and grits of which I have dreamt since 2017 and desired no embellishments. Finally, the entrees arrived. The steak was perfectly delicious! It came with rice and green beans, which tasted more Asian inspired than Southern. The collards were not bad, but, certainly, we have tasted better. In my travels, I've enjoyed various takes on shrimp and grits, which I love. I have had the cream-based version, the soupy version with too much lemon juice, the version where the heads are still attached to the shrimp; the Chef John recipe that I make at home; and a restaurant's take on Chef John's recipe sans the andouille sausage. I had never had the version in which the shrimp were not quite done; not blackened; not pink. Just plain white like the grits. I packed my dinner to go along with the chicken and waffles we ordered to go for his Father's Day breakfast the next morning. I figured I would rescue the shrimp at home. When I told the server about the undercooked shrimp, she said she OK, and she would mention it to the chef. I certainly hope she did just that.

The food was pretty good. Came for a birthday dinner. My appetizer of fried pickles tasted a bit over cooked and the oil could have been changed. The chicken and waffles was good, though could have used a bit more seasoning on the chicken. Had to ask for a bit more syrup because the waffles were dry but otherwise good. The only down point really was our waitress. It was an act of god to get her to do anything in a timely man. Maybe that was due to the automatic 20% gratuity she was already going to get because she certainly wouldn’t have gotten nearly that from me. We had to glad her down continuously for simply things like straws. She didn’t check on us at all. Just took orders and dropped food off. Then I’d see her standing around doing nothing. The place wasn’t even that busy. Absolutely unacceptable. I’d come again but maybe not on a weekend.

The food was mediocre but not overall good or bad. I had the tamarind glazed salmon. It was cooked medium and came with succotash vegetable which is main staple. My husband had the trout and said it was good not the best but good. Had the fried oysters for appetizer which was delicious. The service was up to par but felt somewhat rushed. The ambiance was loud and as the night went on the restaurant was busy. Overall worth a 4 star. I did have the banana pudding for dessert. It was ok. The restaurant offers southern cuisine and at best, it’s not bad or good. Just mediocre.

The food was disappointing. We ordered the fried green tomato appetizer, pan cornbread, and the bone-in beef short rib entree. The short rib entree was okay but not great. The cornbread tasted burnt even though it did not appear to be. The fried green tomatoes were not adequately described on the menu -- there are three fried tomato slices on the edges of a plate surrounding a green salad smothered in ranch dressing. The dressing was too much and the fried tomato slices were soggy, as if the oil used to fry them had been used too many times. The service was also disappointing. The waiter seemed to be in a rush. He never asked whether we were enjoying our meal and did not seem concerned that we had only half-eaten our food (and refused to-go boxes) when we asked for the check. If a manager was present, he or she was not evidently on the dining room floor. I would not recommend nor return for another visit.
