About Stubby's Gastrogrub & Beer Bar
Stubby's Gastrogrub & Beer Bar, a new restaurant concept, was inspired by the travels of this culinary pilgrim: an elusive globe trekker whose affinity for the tastier side of life has spawned a new Milwaukee restaurant. Bridging the gap between fine Milwaukee dining and fun Milwaukee living, Stubby's prides itself on a gluttony of pleasure and experience. Milwaukee is becoming known as the gastronomic boomtown. Stubby's Gastrogrub & Beer Bar Ratings and Reviews
Waiter was very overwhelmed and left us without drinks for a while. They had also forgot the chicken for our Mac and cheese so we waited ten minutes for that which no one said anything about even though the manager knew. Just needs a better system. When you see your servers overwhelmed where are the managers to step in and help. Not much support staff.
Everything was pretty much what I would have expected. Mixed review on the food. I had the mushroom / goat cheese flatbread pizza which was really good. My dinner companion ordered the meatloaf, which was extremely salty. I have to think it wasn't supposed to be like that and that it accidentally got salted twice. It tasted like a French Onion soup mix was part of the recipe, which is already salty, and then it got salted again.
We have gone to Stubbys many times for evening burger, sports, and beer . This was our first visit at brunch/lunch time. The brunch was outstanding. Skillets are excellent. For our non-breakfast eaters lots of yummy lunch choices. Will definitely need to come back
Visited Stubby's with a friend on a weekend in March 2016 - had dinner and several beers. The room was noisy (sports on TV everywhere) but not obnoxiously so. We were able to converse pretty normally. The menu was interesting, offering something for most taste preferences. The choice of brews was outstanding. Great spot for bar food, drinking and fun.
Went on a Thursday night to have dinner with a friend. We shared a large plate of nachos which was a good size for two people. My buddy had three beers, I had one. 4 beers and nachos was $14 and some change. Thursdays are cheap taps night and because we ordered our food before 6PM, it was happy hour priced at 50% off. For $14, we were very happy.
I always enjoy a visit to Stubby's! Good food, great service every time, and an extensive beer menu! My one issue is how often beers on their menu end up being on the unavailable list (check the chalkboards). The staff is always ready to help you choose a replacement and let you sample till you find the right one though!
We had one of the worst dining experiences in memory. Stubby's pretends to be a beer emporium and "gastrogrub" pub. The food, service, and selection of beers on the menu is a joke. They advertise 53 beers. It took me 5 trys to find a beer on the menu that they actually had. The server was apathetic and had no clue what any of the beers were, and had no concern whatsoever that they were out of most of the beers on the menu. All we got was poor service and excuses, even after the manager came out. We will not be going back here, and with service and selection this poor, I doubt they will be in business much longer.
Food is always very good here. Service not the best.but it was the 4th, so no problem.
Great outdoor spot for dinner before we head to the fireworks.
Was disappointed that for the 2nd time at this restaurant we were marked as a cancelled reservation after we arrived on time and were seated. More training needed ?
The service was slow, in fact our drinks came out two minutes before our food. The $9 drinks were nothing spectacular. The nachos had microwaved (and minimal) cheese. The food/drinks are overpriced and the service was slow- note that they were NOT busy at the time of our visit.
We went to grab some dinner and watch the NCAA tournament. Open Table screwed up our reservation. Stubby's manager made it right and was able to accomidate us. Our server was extremely attentive. Which was amazing considering how crowded Stubby's was. The food is solid and the beer selection is incredible.
Last minute reservations handled with ease and we were seated promptly. An extensive beer menu satisfied the tastes of all and the menu is extensive and fun. We arrived in time for Brunch or Lunch - so the plates at our table had omelets, and big juicy burgers. Service is exceptional and the view of the river capped off a fun day in Milwaukee.
I dined at Stubby's on a Thursday evening with a reservation at 6:00pm. The place isn't overly large and it's set up well so we never felt crowded. They have an extensive beer list both tap and bottles which is why we went. We ordered our appetizer and drinks first and just before our appetizer came out we ordered our meal - so far so good. The food did take a little while, but overall we were having a good time and the food was pretty good so we were pleased. My only complaint is the TERRIBLE service we received at the restaurant. Maybe our server was new, or maybe he just had a lot going on, but we hardly saw him. It took us 45 minutes AFTER we finished eating to get our bill. Now because of bad service, I won't go back.
