Stroubes Seafood and Steak Ratings and Reviews
HOME RUN! My wife & I could NOT have had a better evening and dining experience if we scripted it! We arrived a tad early for our reservation (which I recommend) and we were seated very pleasantly and promptly. Our waiter arrived and took our drink order and returned very quickly with water then our drinks. He then explained the evening off-menu specials. We ordered appetizers - Lamb Chop Lollipops and a cup of the Corn, Crab & Brie Bisque (to die for!!). My wife absolutely went 'ga ga' over the lamb and totally loved the bisque labelling it the best she has eaten. We ordered our dinner and enjoyed our drinks and appetizers. Our filet steaks were prepared perfectly and I had the Gouda Grits and my wife had the Garlic & Mascarpone Cheese Whipped Potatoes and we were both blown away by everything. Our evening was absolutely perfect from stem to stern and we will definitely be back My wife called Stroube's one of her 2-3 Favorite places to eat!
Stroube's is the place to go on evening's the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra is playing at concert at the nearby River Center. Let the wait staff know you have to be in and out by the beginning of the concert and you will be. And you won't seem rushed either.
Meal and service was good, there was no single problem that stood out. We just felt the over all quality was not that impressive, or in line with pricing. Great location, but incredibly loud even when half full.
The filet was just OK. If not for price would probably give 7.5-8 out of 10. But value did not seem there. Just underwhelmed.
Outstanding menu. Our server, Vadim, was exceptional; patient, knowledgeable, answered all our questions about different menu items, good sense of humor, non-intrusive yet attentive. Would like to see some more reasonably-priced wine selections. Bread pudding for dessert was fantastic!
The server was friendly but was very absent minded. It took forever for him to get the bread and he ended up bringing out the bread with our entree at the same time. He did apologize for the cocktails taking a long time, but when they arrived they were watered down. He served us steak with no steak knives and the fries were cold. The rest of the food was bland. Oddly enough, the complimentary bread was the best part of the entire meal. A few people at the hotel recommend this restaurant and I am really disappointed we went.
My server , Ed, is an a gem to your establishment, my fiancé and I travel a lot and were in town for LSU festivities. Our server took the time out to suggest menu items but also gave us the history of the restaurant. I truly enjoyed my evening and Ed just put the icing on the cake!!! Please advise Ed, we are singing praises for his exceptional service!!!!
Service was friendly, unhurried and efficient, but not hovering or overbearing. The bleu cheese wedge salad is the best in Baton Rouge, if not anywhere. The sweet caramelized onions on top take it to the next level. The 6 oz filet was tender and cooked perfectly to order. The side was a nice, creamy mushroom risotto. The appetizer was shrimp and grits - absolutely delicious. The grits were creamy with smoked gouda, and the Abita barbecue sauce set it off beautifully. Looking forward to finding another good excuse for dinner at Stroube's!
Went for restaurant week. Started with the ceviche. Expected more of a citrus flavor that was present. Pieces of fish were too large for the dish served in. Too large for comfortable one piece eating and dish too awkward to allow easy cutting. Spouse ordered the fried cheese curds. Would not recommend, may be a favorite in dairy land, but a little off for down south.
Had the pork porterhouse which only had one down side, for some reason the chef is heavy handed with salt and there was a distinctive iodine taste to the sauce. This can be a shock to people watching their salt intake. Again, cook with a light touch and let the customer add salt at the table if felt necessary. Over all the dish is a good combination of pork and mashed potatoes.
Desserts were the star of the meal. the berry cobbler was rich, perhaps a bit too rich. The parfait is something that if you eat elsewhere, stop here for dessert. The parfait is that good.
Overall the food was okay. I find the quality far better when ordering off the regular menu and not much different in what you spend.
It was our one year wedding anniversary. The fresh baked bread was amazing! I had a Cesar salad which was not bad and the Parmesan mashed potatoes were pretty good. The filets were good too, but for the price Ruth's Chris has them beat by a mile. We went on a Sunday evening and there was only one other table occupied our whole experience was less than an hour. The service was on point. Not sure how they do with a crowd though.
My wife and I celebrated our first anniversary and the welcome we received was beyond compare. They wished us a happy anniversary when we walked into the door and our waiter made sure we were taken care of from the beginning to the end. Also, the food was amazing. I would recommend the Gnocchi and smoke gouda grits to anyone. Wonderful Atmosphere and food.
Brought the family to Stroube's as there were 3 birthdays that week. Food was delicious, as per normal. Excellent choices and presentation. Stroube's has the best bleu cheese wedge salad in town- it includes caramelized onion strings on top, along with the bacon and that just takes it to the next level. I think I'd probably be happy with the wedge salad and the freshly baked bread, but the steaks are perfectly cooked, and so tender that a steak knife is not necessary. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service is attentive without being overbearing. Looking forward to returning to Stroube's!
