The term "Super Tuscan" has been in use since the early 70's. Producers such as Antinori and Tenuta San Guido released the notable wines Tignanello and Sassicaia in an effort to erase the damage being done to Italian winemaking with poorly made straw basket chianti. The only good thing those bottles were for was holding candlesticks after being emptied. Using modern techniques and facilities winemakers started producing world class wines even though, at the time, could only be called Vino di Tavola or Table Wine. Tenuta San Guido had been growing cabernet sauvignon and experimenting with Bordeaux style blends since the 40's. Their sharing of the previous unreleased vintages and success would influence Alceo di Napoli to produce his own cabernet based wine that debuted in the early 80's. Sammarco was born. Though not as well known as the big names, this is a wine that rivals all. The winery also was one of the first to go fully organic and biodynamic, further pushing the level of quality forward. They decided to produce the family's pinnacle wine, what is now known as Vigna d'Alceo, in 1990. Unfortunately, Alceo was unable to taste the bottling as he passed away during that vintage. His name lives on in the wine. Enjoy the selection.
Excelente Paco y la comida excelente
Rib eye and Manhattan cocktail were both disappointing. The steak was a bit tough and not too flavorful. Everything else was good but not great. Pretty underwhelming overall for the price and considering past visits. I’ve been coming here a long time and probably won’t be back for a while.
The quality of the food greatly exceeded my expectations. The tuna tartar was excellent with a touch of cucumber flavor. My bone-in fillet was perfect! Better than any steakhouse in NY, including Peter Luger. The creamed spinach with black oil was splendid. The service: excellent bar man (Ariel), and terrific waitress (Esme). Hostess a bit clumsy, and lacked warmth. Atmosphere is warm and old world.
Third visit now in 2 years and each time is just out of this world. Great atmosphere, amazing staff and superb meals!
What a dump! It’s basically a dinner serving steak. This place was good years ago but now it seems that it has been neglected. Service is so poor. We sat for at least 20 minutes before anyone ever showed up to our table. Food was ok at best. Nothing special at all.
They were amazingly accommodating. They gave my boyfriend a free glass of amazing wine for his birthday and they gave us free bacon and potatoes because our steak came out late.
Again it was a nice dinner: good food, good ambiace and great staff
Overall it was a good experience and the food was good, we were there for a birthday celebration and when we ordered the dessert it came with a candle so that was a very nice touch. the food was tasty, we had the ribeye which was cooked the way we asked and the foie gras and scallop appetizer was delicious, would definitely recommend them. the only awkward part of the entire dining experience was being seated right next to a table of two when the restaurant was practically empty since we had a really early dinner reservation. the matre’d led us to the table and asked loudly whether the table was okay, it was a bit uncomfortable to say it wasn’t okay, since we didn’t want to offend the other patrons, but why did she seat us right next to them when there were plenty of other seats available? even by the end of our dinner there were still seats available, so the choice to seat us where she did made the night a bit awkward because we could hear their entire conversation the entire night when we could’ve had a more private dinner.
Had heard good things about this place and it definitely held up its end of the bargain! We’ve been trying to eat through a list of great steakhouses in NYC and this is definitely on the list ! Great wine and cocktails, steaks are great quality and seasoned to perfection ! Make sure to try the strip house potatoes, broccoli and even this french press coffee is delicious ! Make sure to walk in with and empty stomach because you’ll want to eat everything !
Wieder Top Steaks in tollem Ambiente. Freundliche Bedienung.
