Strega Waterfront Ratings and Reviews
Went in for lunch -- we got the cheeseburger and chicken parm sandwich. both were good. Burger was on small side and came fries and some chopped lettuce and a tomato slice - looked more like a side salad than burger accompaniments, but no dressing. It was a pleasant.
A regular to the Strega family of restaurants for years. Have also had the occasion to meet and speak with Mr. Varano and have met and spoken with Chef Sal Firicano many times when he was working at Nico's. Food has always been very good. Service varies from fair/excellent. Recently had a special dinner on Friday (12-1-17), at The Waterfront, with my wife + two friends. We have dinner together, every year, as our way of celebrating Christmas and our long friendship. We had reservations for four for three+ weeks in advance.
1) Food choices excellent
2) Prices high, higher than previous visits to this location, much higher than historically found at Strega - Hanover St. and at Nico's.
3) Waiter was very impersonal and dry. He did make a good suggestion when one of our party was comparing two seafood dishes as to which would be better, and it turned out to be a good recommendation.
4) When he gave the "specials" (3) for the night, as we would later discover when we got our check, we realized he neglected to state any pricing. Perhaps an oversight, but important to our experience, nonetheless, as I will explain.
5) When we received the check, we were somewhat shocked at the overall cost. In looking at the detail of the check we saw that one dish, the "surf & turf" special had cost $85.00. Yipes, was that an unexpected surprise/shock.
6) I know, for fact, that if the waiter had stated the price of the entrees, I never would have ordered it!! I blame myself also for not asking, but in general, specials are usually priced somewhere within the price range typically found within the printed menu.
a) An overall lack of attentiveness from the wait staff and the waiter specifically. We received more attention from the young man filling our water glasses than anyone else and it seemed that he too was indirectly apologizing for any delays or inattentive service we were experiencing from the waiter.
Please take as constructive criticism.
Our waiter, Michael, was very good. Appetizers (beet salad & mozzarella with prosciutto) were good Entrees very disappointing. Branzino over cooked and dry. Penne had some parts of dish cold and way undercooked and chewy. Mushroom and scallops in pappardella: pasta very heavy and chewy, scallops chewy. For desert the cannoli was good; tiramisu was bland and heavy, not light like a real tiramisu should be. The managers spent a lot of time chatting up regulars and passed our table multiple times without ever asking about our experience. Expected much better.
Went to Strega Waterfront on Sunday afternoon, November 20th, and Vinyl Groove was playing. They were fantastic! What beautiful voices. My friends and I even got up and danced they were so good. Very entertaining. Loved the waterfront, loved the authentic Italian food, loved the band, what a great time! I have since told all my friends about it and they are excited to try it.
We booked Strega on a Sunday night to enjoy the live music, this week Vinyl Groove, from 6pm. Each of us had tried this place once just after it opened and found it just average BUT tonight the food was really good. The service was friendly and good. The live music made it a really great night out in the city! We’re looking forward to going again.
Strega Waterfront was first class. The restaurant was very well decorated, great atmosphere, ambience. The food and the service were both spectacular. The entire staff paid great attention to detail and even customized my food order. I strongly recommend for either a special occasion or a group gathering
I have to thank Strega Waterfront for the excellent meal we had celebrating my husbands birthday. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the ambiance was everything we could ask for. I recommend them so highly for any occasion. I can't wait to go back. Kudos to Strega!
Very loud and somewhat a tad pretentious!
Some of the food was very good and some was barely hitting the mark. If you’re an Italian specialty establishment and cannot present a good plate of pasta with meat sauce, it’s like going to a diner and they can’t make an omelette. Would you go again?
My husband and I have been going to Strega Waterfront for 5 years now for special occasions because the ambiance, location and food are excellent. We took 4 of our friends out for a Veteran’s day dinner on Friday and l, unfortunately, this past visit was very disappointing. The food was sub-par and our server was rude and condescending. When you are spending top dollar you’d expect only the best and this is not what we got. I’m disappointed because this was always one of our favorite spots, but we will not be back. There are too many other top notch choices in the Seaport to waste time and money elsewhere.
Very disappointing!!! Strega Waterfront has NO water views. In fact the restaurant is very dark and had heavy curtains all along the ceiling to floor windows in the room we were seated.
We were there to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday, so we wanted it to be special. It was anything but special. Food was ok not worth the 1.5 hour drive from NH.
One other annoying fact is that they do not have a coat room. It was about 19 degrees the night we went so all the patrons were wearing heavy coats. No coat room so we had to hang our coats on the back of the chair.
Will not go back.
Seven people at our table and not one said there meal was even good. Homemade pasta recipe is a complete diaster...need a new recipe!
The setting was lovely. We had a great table and enjoyed some very nice wine, cocktails, and conversations.
I might go for a drink and to watch a sporting event, but would not order any food here!
Disappointed. Had lunch there before and really enjoyed it. Decided to invite friends to try it for dinner and we were all disappointed with the quality of the food and very high priced. The salmon with sweet and sour sauce was so average and the lamb chops were tiny portions and really fatty.
