Strega North End Ratings and Reviews
Strega was cramped with blasts of cold air every time the door opened. No place to wait for a table and people standing over your table waiting to be seated. Service was very good and food was also very good but nothing spectacular compared to other restaurants in the area. Strega was just okay and will look for someplace with a little more atmosphere and not feel so rushed to turn the table.
A girls weekend in Boston and we were very intent on memorable dining experiences and this one did NOT let us down! The waitstaff was very solicitious, gracious in waiting as we talked trying to catch up before ordering, very eager to recommend dishes based on our interests, and paced the service so we were able to enjoy each course before tackling the next. Definintely recommend reservations! Look forward to trying another one of the restaurants in this group on a next visit to Boston!
They’ve squeezed too many tables into a room which is too small. Even taking into account that we had a Saturday reservation at 7:30 (not seated until 8:00), the place is too crowded and too noisy. The food and service were both very good however, so probably great either on a weeknight or before/after weekend prime times.
We arrived a few minutes early on a Saturday night and were seated right away in the corner table by the bathrooms. Not a good start to our dinner but asked our waiter to move us to a better location, they happily accommodated. The service and food were excellent; their special appetizer of fried calamari with shrimp and scallops in a balsamic glaze was delicious. Their crab and beet salads were another hit; we all really enjoyed. Dinner we had the stuffed fish with lobster and risotto special, grilled salmon and seafood Strega with homemade pasta; all were excellent. This is a great place - service and food are wonderful.
Very good food, excellent waiter service, educated staff on dining selections and wine selections.
Was definitely disappointed with one aspect of the evening.
I️ Uber was late making us 10 mins late and after calling they said they’d hold the table for 15 mins.
We arrived prior to 15 mins and they gave our table away and we had to wait 15-20 mins to be seated.
Assuming this was an isolated event.
We ate there before the Celtics game the other night and the service was very good. the waiter got us in and out timely but did not rush us. the food was very good. the pumkin squash raviolis were a big hit and I had the veal cachatori that I thought was very good. Wine as also very good.
definitely be back
We opted for "Family Style" dining and the food they brought, after we waited a half hour past our reservation time, was quite good.....however there was too much! We were six people...enough food for 10. And when you have food for 10 you get a bill for 10 but then realize you are only six so, with the mandatory tip they added, we were in for $115/head with only two bottles of wine and no dessert. Yikes. Lots of places where two people can dine nicely in the North End for under $130 rather than $230. Perhaps I am being too tough on the price...we just said "bring it on" without discussion however one would think that $115 per person is a bit steep. The food WAS good...no denying that. They have a really cheezy feature there....five or six large TV screen playing mafia movies like Goodfellas and The Godfather. Distracting for those facing the screens and there are some pretty disgusting scenes in some of those movies. PLEASE....we're trying to eat over here! For that reason alone we won't go back.
The food and the menu variety were very good as was the service and for these reasons I would recommend. The wall of 5 flat screen TVs playing mob movies ( godfathers I and II, Goodfellas etc) on an uninterrupted loop was overwhelming and honestly became a little disturbing. Personally, I love The Godfather series. However, I don’t need to simultaneously watch Sonny Corleone shot to death and Joe Pesci beaten to a pulp and thrown alive into a shallow grave while eating-causes some indigestion to say the least.
It was amazing! Our server was friendly and made our night enjoyable. Our food was delicious and the wine selection caters to all tastes. My husband and mum loved it and my mum complimented the service as a well done job. We will definitely be back in this restaurant in the future. Love also watching some Italian movies while waiting for our meals.
Strega is a typical North End red sauce factory. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation and were rushed by the waitstaff. The food was fine but the whole experience left us with the conclusion that we would avoid North End dinners on Saturday nights as they are always wanting.
Great specials....we had decided based on menu on window and then completely changed our minds. So many great choices and the specials we had were beyond expectation. Ate every morsel and every drop of delicious sauce. Had a more quiet corner booth so that was good. Very good service. A little odd that we had to wait outside for our table to be ready even though there was room in the entry way - it was okay weather wise but a polite explanation of WHY would have been appreciated. Just seemed odd. Fortunately table was ready within 10 minutes of reservation.
We made a reservation using OPENTABLE, Friday, October 13 at 8 PM, party of four.
The restaurant did not honor our reservation and only gave us a table at 9 PM.
They ruined our night because everybody was upset.
Will never go back.
They should not use OPENTABLE if they do not honor the reservations.
Strega is an authentic Italian restaurant in Boston's North End. The food is a bit above average. The service is very good with some good Italian Schmoozing. On the down side (depending on what you are looking for) table spacing is tight so be prepared to converse with your neighbors and the noise level is on the high side. All in all, it is still a good experience and very different from a suburban restaurant.
Read good reviews online, but, sadly, we were disappointed. Visiting the North End of Boston was a highlight of our trip to New England (being 2nd generation Italians). We wanted a delicious Italian meal before we headed home. The caesar salad was very good. My scallops were good and the bed of farro with pesto they were lying on was delicious. The roast chicken was also good. The fettuccine with seafood was not cooked properly and, therefore, inedible. The seafood was fine. Our waiter asked if there was something wrong and to his credit, when he heard the pasta was "troppo al dente", he did not charge us for it.
