Strega Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Strega has a very nice menu, and we can always find something that we enjoy very much.
Our only criticism is that the tables are so close together you cannot help but find yourself listening to the other guests on the adjacent tables conversation, and it's almost impossible to get in and out of your chair. On Saturday it was so loud, my husband and I had trouble holding a conversation, which made our evening less enjoyable. They really try to pack way too many people into such a small restaurant. In future, we will plan on going during the week when it's less busy.
Maybe they should consider expanding into their pizza take out restaurant next door which only has a couple of tables and they don't appear to get many dine in guests for pizza.
Our friends came 15 minutes after us, and service was patient and appropriate, giving us water and (delicious) bread and butter while we were waiting. The food was excellent and service continued to be quietly on top of everything. Our friends want to meet there again next get-together.
It was our first time at the restaurant; service was very good & the food was delicious. We had the meatball appetizer.... you get 3 large meatballs, fresh ricotta and marinara sauce for dipping ... so yummy. Our entrees were also delicious & the cappuccino was the best I’ve had in a long time. I highly recommend Strega Bistro... give it a try😋
We enjoyed our dinner at Strega. The attentive staff offers superior service and the kitchen provides excellent food. The experience was enhanced with a soundtrack of top flight Brazilian jazz and samba music playing at the perfect volume level.
There are lots of good Italian restaurants in North Jersey. Strega is better than most of the others.
We could not wait to return to SB for our favorite appetizer, octopus in a rich paprika sauce and the Caesar salad. The Sea bass and chicken breast specials were both excellent, seasoned nicely with generous veggie sides. The service is always thoughtful and special requests are honored. Always an enjoyable evening at Strega Bistro.
The food is amazing! Seasonal, creative and served beautifully! If you haven't had their short-ribs, you are definitely missing out, but you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! Friendly and efficient service, and beautifully appointed. Definitely a go-to place :-)
My husband took me here for a birthday dinner.
Food was good. Though we ordered the fried calamari with hot peppers and got it with sweet peppers. The waiter and manager acknowledged the error but did nothing to rectify it. Was a little disappointed there.
But overall good food.
Starters: Wonderful Caesar salad and a grilled octopus with a paprika sauce that begged to be dunked with a crusty bread. Entrees of halibut with risotto and a veal saltimbocca, both savory and prepared well. I love that the chef is not afraid of seasoning the proteins and veggies. The service is always thoughtful and every request honored. BYO option makes this restaurant even more enticing because drinking your favorite wine with a splendid meal doesn't get any better.
Dessert, a cappuccino and coffee topped off a great evening. Thank you, SB, for a nice evening.
Nice local and friendly byob. The meatball appetizer is amazing. It's big so plan on sharing it. My husband had pasta which he is as offered two different sauces because he couldn't decide. We couldn't get over how nice that was. I had the seafood risotto. Unfortunately because of health issues I need my seafood cooked thru. Once mentioning it, they got right in it and made things great: couldn't have asked for a better response. We will definitely be back. Friendly and very professional.
We love going to Strega. The menu is excellent and the food is always first rate. Also nice that it is a byob restaurant. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient.
It is a small restaurant so I would recommend reservations. And did I say the food is terrific?
The food, service, and ambiance were all exceptional. Someone in our party had a gluten allergy. The waiter and staff went out of their way to recreate a dish she wanted to try so that it was gluten free. It was delicious.
The Fiocchi, nutella crepes, and valentina salad are a must try!
Crisp Caesar salad and braised octopus appetizers for openers. Both flavorful and plentiful. Entrees of Hangar steak and veggies and a chicken breast with pistachio and almond crust, were both winners. The servings are generous, the servers courteous, the prices reasonable. All things considered, this restaurant is a no brainer for a wonderful dining experience.
This place is just like it was described on Open Table as a "neighborhood gem". It's in a mini-strip mall with no real street frontage. The crowd was on the older side. The acoustics inside are extremely loud even though nobody is really talking loudly. It's like they have an amplifier in there bouncing things off the wall. It's unpleasant honestly. However the food was so much better than expected. Whoever the chef is back there is pretty talented. We ordered the balsamic calamari appetizer with sausage and peppers, the seafood risotto, and the salad with feta and pine nuts. All of it was terrific. The salmon was very thick and a little bland but still good.
We love the Caesar salad at SB and order it every time we dine there. Our last visit we enjoyed the seafood salad and we were so surprised when they prepared it for us again. The shellfish was tender and the lemon and olive oil dressing was fabulous. I really enjoyed the Parmesan crusted chicken in lemon sauce with potato croquettes and my husband thought the hangar steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Cappuccino and a delicious mocha panna cotta with biscotti crumble rounded out a great meal. The service was thoughtful and staff was engaging with patrons, getting feedback on their dining experience. It was an enjoyable evening and SB is now one of our go to places for care free dining.
