The Chef trained in his homeland of Italy in early 2000's where he honed his skills under some of the great chefs of the area. He also spent time training in Spain, Portugal, and Greece where he rounded out his knowledge of the Mediterranean Cuisine.

This is the 2nd time we have eaten at Strega and have enjoyed it very much. The food is excellent (love the Calamari). Service, Ambiance and overall dining experience was great. The only thing I noticed (as it was a crowded evening), the noise level is a bit high, but not a damper. I would definitely recommend Strega and we will be back!
Went to Strega for Restaurant Month. What terrific value. The food was delicious, wait staff was very attentive and the ambiance was friendly. The whole menu is very creative and we hope to return soon.
Strega was fantastic!! Two of us started with the mussels and slurped up every bit of sauce, a fellow diner had the calamari, a HUGE portion, incorporating sweet sausage and your choice of sweet or hot peppers. Again, two of us had the seafood risotto, delightful. The gentlemen ordered the short rib done in Barolo wine and the pork ragu over homemade pasta, very satisfying, excellent flavor. Although dessert was included in the prix fix, no one could finish it. If I had to say one negative thing, it was that dessert was OK but not as amazing as the meal. I would definately go back to Strega and highly recommend you make a reservation and try it.

Times are tough for all restaurants having to deal with staff shortage.

The food was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous. Service was slow. Wonderful for a very leisurely dinner. I would definitely say go.
Authentic Italian food. Salad, home made pasta, pork chops are all outstanding. This is our new go to restaurant!
We had a wonderful dinner with an old friend. The staff were attentive but gave us plenty of time to enjoy dinner and also get caught up with our friend that we hadn't seen in a few months. Overall a wonderful experience. We all enjoyed our meals also.
The restaurant special of 3 courses for $39.00 was an excellent value and portions were ample.

Food is pretty good but they seem understaffed
This is a tough one, because the food was good, but there were a few real turn offs. First, they refused to provide the table with tap water. Not the first time I've been asked to pay for water in a restaurant, but I never went back to the last. I don't drink fizz at all, and to pay for "still" water is just absurd. We had a real problem with flies too, believe it or not. They have some outdoor seating, so I suspect part of the problem is that the door is opened often for the servers outside. I might endure flies at a roadside food stand or even a pizzeria, but not at ANY fine dining restaurant. I can only imagine what the kitchen looked like! We also had brought champagne for a friend's birthday, and I had to ask for a champagne glass for her. Lastly, I had made a reservation and since many tables were available, I requested one isolated from people. The "host" declined my request with an implication that a party of five had reserved that table. Once the three of us sat down at our table for four, I noticed the table I had requested had five chairs, but only four place settings. No one ever sat at that table either. Overall, we had a nice night, but certainly not the fine dining I had anticipated. I would recommend with reservation.
Interesting experience. First of all, this is a BYOB restaurant, which wasn’t made clear at the time of booking. Open table should disclose this more openly. Likewise, no tap water available - you have to go for bottled. Food is exceptional and reasonably priced. Although clean and uncluttered, ambiance leaves a lot to be desired (unfortunately). The owner greeted us brusquely at first, there is no receptionist and we were interrupting his packing up a takeout meal. The regulars probably just go in and sit down where they wish. The owner and seemingly all the patrons are dressed as if they just got done mowing the lawn. With these limitations, as mentioned, the food is superb so have a cocktail at home, bring a bottle of wine, don’t overdress and enjoy.
Appetizers were ok, while entrees were great! Both the fusilli and pappardelle were really good, tasty, texture. Same with the pork chop, really good. They have espresso and good desserts. We will be back!
What a find!! My husband and I had never been here before and were greeted warmly by Anthony, the owner, who immediately apologized as two of his staff were stuck in Newark due to especially heavy flooding and road closures. We felt this was already a point in his favor to be so honest and direct. We were given delicious olive bread with butter and chose burrata as our starter. Delicious. Mind you, Anthony was hustling and taking orders himself, but still made time to exchange stories about taly and mutual places we’ve been. I chose Fiocchi pasta…o m g. Homemade teeny sacks of pasta with pear and Gorgonzola with walnuts in a cream sauce. Licked my plates. My husband has the veal chop special, Panko dredged, pounded thin with a marsala mushroom sauce and 3 giant homemade corn ravioli. He licked HIS plate. The double espresso was more like a triple (my husband was HYPER when we left), and the cappuccino panna cotta was just right to share with fresh berries. Anthony checked in with us regularly, and his staff was quick, polite and efficient. We are definitely going to be back. Thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

My family was visiting for the first time since COVID and we had a great time at Strega. The food is excellent. We did not feel rushed. We love the fact we get to bring our own wine. Excellent all around. Our favorite neighborhood place!

I ordered the packets stuffed with pear in gorgozola walnut sauce. It was outstanding. I had a similar dish in Florence 2 years ago but I had never seen it on a menu in this country. I will go back again just for this dish allthough the cioppino I had was also wonderful. I was told that thew chef is Mexican which surprised me as his Italian dishes were so good.
olive bread was great. Fish, lasagna, and vegetables were great. not o salty, tasty and everything cooked al dente. Watch out for pits in the olives...
Made an open table reservation for 7:30 and when we got there he told us the kitchen closes at 7:30. Why would we be able to make a reservation of the kitchen is closing. We ordered but felt rushed and stressed. And when we told him to talk to open table about allowing a reservation when they were closing, he said “I can’t be here until midnight”. I won’t be going back.
We did father day dinner here family style, 4 apps, 2 pasta's and 3 entrees. In a word, OUTSTANDING! One dish was better than the next, standouts for me were the octopus app, fiocchi gorgonzola pasta (must order) and the short ribs. Do yourself a favor, check this neighborhood gem out.
super food with and they were willing to tailor our dishes exactly as requested. Outdoor seating isn't much (parking lot view) but indoor space is excellent. Excellent value with the BYOB has me looking forward to returning
We have been regulars before the pandemic and went back for the first time with friends. Food quality is always good but I guess like everyone else they are having help problems. SLOW on everything!! Hopefully they can get more help. Thanks

Strega is the best restaurant around. The highest quality food - it is small, quaint and the service is impeccable. It's BYOB, which we love. Definitely our favorite in NJ!
This inauspicious little place in a strip mall serve wonderful Italian food The chicken shirley and pork chop saltimbocca are outstanding, but even the salads and desserts are deliciously memorable. It's also a BYO

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE GEM IN THE AREA! From the service to the food, everything was sublime from start to finish. I highly recommend ordering the Strega Calamari for starters and jumping into the specials afterwards. Incredible experience.
I ordered the fish special. Fish was delicious loved the sauce but the polenta was dense, made in a sheet pan instead of creamy. Plate was kind of sad. Could have used a veggie. Some broccoli or green beans or asparagus would have been nice and would have rounded out and made the plate complete.
What a great find in Berkeley Heights! We ventured there from Morristown and it was well worth the trip. I had the organic strip steak and it was outstanding. I gravitated to that because I try and eat organic as much as possible. The burrata appetizer was unreal. The flavors of the pesto with the prosciutto and the burrata was excellent! Capped off the dinner with the molten chocolate cake which was also great. We will go back for sure.
Nice variety of menu items, not your typical Italian fare. This is our second time here & everything was delicious. Owner & employees are all exceptional. We have recommended this restaurant to family & friends. Looking forward to returning & trying other dishes.
