Street and Co. Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic meal! We had the octopus, which was so tender, and the sole Francais which was amazing. My husband had one of the raw oysters and said it was the best he'd had. It's loud and the tables are close to each other (which was not a problem, just an observation).
I loved the setting and the decor. Service was warm and attentive. I think the main quality of Street & Co's food is the freshness and authenticity of the products and the seafood. Unfortunately we found that execution left a bit to be desired. The sole (a la Francaise) was overcooked for my taste (became mushy) and on the other hand the shrimp were underdone (a few were gelatinous). The beurre blanc sauce for the shrimp was really great however. The grilled octopus lacked flavor. So overall quite good but not great but we'll come back for the ambience and the service and hope the kitchen will have a better, more consistent night.
The last time I was here was 18 years ago on my first date with my wife. Since we no longer live in Maine, we had the chance to return there this past weekend for the first time, and the food and ambiance was excellent just like it was 18 years ago. It is a tribute to the restaurant that they are still providing the same experience as they were almost two decades ago. Highly recommended.
Busy kitchen, fresh oysters, and great service. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Seemed like a many locals enjoying a special night out. I would definitely recommend and will return on my next trip to Portland. It felt like Street and Co is a restaurant that works hard in the kitchen and that is all that matters, just fresh well prepared food.
Had been wanting to try this restaurant for years, and I was disappointed. The food wasn't bad, but it was very basic bordering on bland. I got the sole and it came with a few roast potatoes and some green beans, and was not very flavorful. For the high price, it would be better to go somewhere else
In the first floor of an old Portland building, lots of brick, comfortable seating, lighting just write, etc.
We really enjoyed all the food. Tasty fresh bread. Great and good sized mixed Seasonal salad for one starter. I had two small plates (manchengo cheese and duck confit salad), which together made a nice sized appetizer. Our mains were Sole Francaise and whole branzini over couscous - all was delicious.
The menu is basically ALL fish... this was fine for us, but should be considered in deciding to visit Street and Co.
The food above, plus a very nice chardonnay from the Alexander Valley, was $125 excluding tip.
Only small complaint was that the starter course came out very quickly. Otherwise service was very good.
We'll definitely go again.
My husband and I took my parents here to celebrate Christmas together. The lounge is very cozy! The lights were brighter in the main eating area - it would have been a little cozier when the lights dimmer. The food was excellent - sides were red potatoes and green beans. Simple and delicious. The sole francise was excellent.
We live in the Portland area and have dined at Street and Co many, many times over the years. They have never let me down......until this time. My usual selection is the scallops in Pernod cream, which I have been looking forward to since we made the rez three weeks ago. Sadly, oh so very sadly, the scallops were so incredibly oversalted I could barely eat them. This from a certified heavy salter. I suspect the entire pan was given the finishing salt treatment, as the vegetables were equally salty. They were properly cooked and sauced, however. Adding insult to injury, my husband's fish stew was barely warm. Delicious but way off in terms of serving temperature. Typically, the restaurant was packed but untypically, the service was sluggish. We were there with out of town friends to whom we had sung praises of Street and Co. Otherwise we would have sent my scallops and the stew back. We ate them but did not especially enjoy them. The service was adequate; our server was knowledgable, efficient and friendly. I do love Street and Co and will certainly give it another chance. When it is on, there is no place in Portland that can beat it. I am chalking it up to an off night in the kitchen.
My son, husband & I went to celebrate my BIRTHDAY!! THE CORNER TABLE FOR 3 WAS GREAT,out of the traffic,cozy....the food was fantastic as usual. We would always stop for supper on our visits from Long Island,NY about 2x a year...We now are Cape residence, & try to come in a few times a year....
The dining room is noisy and the tables are very close. My chair kept vibrating from the movement of the gentleman behind me. The server was very professional and welcoming. My entree, grilled swordfish, was cooked perfectly. However, the side of 2 roasted potatoes and green beans made the meal feel like something I could serve at home.
Absolutely the best dinner in Portland. Mussels were delicious and the appetizer portion was enormous - with the Large bowl overflowing. The salad with roasted squash and pomegranate was so delicious and light and tasty - I remembered for the first time how amazing vegetables can be when prepared without being drowned in dressing. The sole entree was perfectly cooked and the apple berry crumb pie was out of this world tasty. The atmosphere is great - with brick walls, an open kitchen and wonderful service. Enjoy!
These people really know how to respect the finest and freshest fish! Though we've been coming here for many years, it's always a special treat. Lively, but not so loud you can't carry on a conversation. We love the smart, helpful service and being able to watch the cooks in action.
We had our annual trip here in Portland, Maine. Street & Co was our last stop before we headed back home, and I'm glad we did just that. We ordered their 2 most popular dishes, the scallops and lobster diavolo. Hands down it was the highlight of the trip. Everything was well seasoned and portion was very generous. The lobster diavolo was supposed to be a 2 persons dish but it definitely could feed up to 3 people. The ambience was nice, not too quiet but not too loud. If you ever in the area you should definitely stop by. It was the perfect closing statement to our trip.
Been going here since 1980's. Never a let down. I can bring guests here and never worry about experiencing a less than perfect meal. I don't being anybody here who doesn't like seafood or fish. There are no beef choices. They do seafood and they do it great.
Had coworkers from the South in town for business meetings and wanted to treat them to a nice seafood restaurant. They loved the food and the Old Port area. The Mussels Provencal was a great start; plenty for four to share, along with dipping the bread in the butter/garlic. The broiled swordfish melted in your mouth, not over-cooked at all. Sole, Scallops and Tuna was equally delicious. Atmosphere was open and a little loud, but an enjoyable evening. One of the 4 meals was delayed slightly, and our server brought us a stuffed pepper with a white fish - she was very gracious. Look forward to our next trip to Street & Co.
