The Straight Wharf Restaurant in Nantucket offers refined seafood dishes in a handsome modern setting right on the waterfront. It is only open during the season.
At the Straight Wharf Restaurant, the focus on fresh food means ingredients are taken from local farms and fishing boats. There's a brunch menu that includes offerings such as huevos rancheros, eggs Benedict and French-pressed coffee. For dinner, choose from the oysters, mussels, scallops, swordfish, seared Nantucket fluke and a clam bake. For dessert at The Straight Wharf Restaurant, you can have Banana Fosters cheese cake, chocolate pots de crème, seasonal sorbets and fig cake.
Dinner just after labor day - we enjoyed a few appetizers and the swordfish. The green beans were amazing, the sauce was perfect. The swordfish was cooked perfectly and the veggies that came with it were delicious. Awesome meal from start to finish.
Amazing as always! The Straight Wharf will not disappoint. Delicious food, excellent service and a fabulous view. Keep up the good work!
So disappointing! We were kept waiting over 30 minutes for our table -- and then we were stuck in the corner where we had to keep flagging down the waitstaff to ask for water, our drink order and food. The appetizers could have been a meal -- watermelon gazpacho was delicious but the salad could've been a main course and got tiresome. The chicken under a brick was perfect -- although not as flattened as it should be if it was really under a brick. Charming atmosphere but screaming noise from the bar next door.
The staff were professional and attentive. Even when John Kerry walked in with his secret service entourage the hostess apologized for making us wait a few minutes! Unbelievable. The food was phenomenal and I never say that. From the amazing oyzrers
Went here for a special birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. Dark, candlelit, romantic dinner right on Nantucket Harbor (I bet the daytime views are great). The food was awesome - a perfectly cooked steak and the local catch of the day: hake - and the service was great. Would definitely recommend to a friend and will be back for sure. Might be more of a special occasion place however as it was quite pricey.
This is a lovely restaurant in Nantucket. Cooking and preparation is less impressive than setting. I had the Straight Wharf clam bake and the lobster was slightly tough and the dish included chorizo which was also tough and overwhelmed the delicate flavors of the lobster and clams. There are other restaurants in Nantucket with more refined cooking but the real draw for this place is the view.
Food was best we had so far this season on Nantucket.
Food is excellent. View of the harbor is great. Service was a bit off. I think the waitress had too many tables. Food is pricey, like most nice dinners on Nantucket. We went for dinner, not for lunch.
Our family of our had a delicious meal here on our last night in Nantucket. We enjoyed the watermelon gazpacho and sustainable catch of the day, fluke that was perfectly seared. Also recommend the galette. Service was not snobby as in some other Nantucket restaurants. Would definitely recommend.
My wife and I had a great meal here. We sat on the deck overlooking the harbor, though next to the ice cream spot, Stars, was still scenic Nantucket. Service was excellent and they were accommodating when we wanted to change tables. Nice wines by the glass.
Super oysters to start, followed by the best clam bake!
The food was absolutely delicious and the whole dining experience was amazing. We ate the sustainable catch farro verde, broccoli, pickled peppers, cherry tomatoes, lemon cream and the lobster special, with a side of pan-roasted broccoli rabe, garlic & parmesan followed by basil-vanilla ice cream for dessert. These dishes were cooked to pure perfection and it was all so fresh. We were in heaven as we savored every single bite. The basil vanilla ice cream was unlike anything I have ever tasted. The restaurant is very beautiful and overlooked the beautiful port. Our server was excellent and made the experience even more enjoyable. We are already excited at the prospect of returning again next year. This restaurant is a definite must for anyone visiting Nantucket. It was the perfect way to finish our day there before boarding our ferry back to Provincetown.
The pasta appetizer was a disappointment. The galette was excellent.
We made our reservation several months ago. When we arrived they seated us at the 4 top right behind the hostess station at the very front of the restaurant. I think it was probably the worst table in the place. We requested a different table and were told by our waitress and the hostess that no others were available. Even though we could see one. After speaking with the manager we were seated at the other open table.
the food was very good but not memorable.
Service was excellent- food was amazing - wine was delicious - can't wait to get back!!
The place is located in a beautiful spot, but the food was average. Definitely not impressive food wise.
This was an amazing dinner
Get the clambake it was soooo good
My boyfriend and I took my teenaged children for dinner. My kids are foodies, but that being said the menu does have something for almost anyone who appreciates good food. The service was excellent and the ambiance is fantastic. There are tables in the bar area which is unbelievably loud but a good scene. We ate in the formal dining room which is dark and elegant, but still very hip Nantucket. We are regular ACK vacationers and SW is always on top of our list. As with any popular restaurant in this town-advance reservations are a must in August.
My first time to straight wharf was ideal, food, setting, service were just perfect. The timing and presentation were impeccable. Fresh, simple elegant .
The food is always amazing, the service is the best & the atmosphere is very special. We love dining at Straight Wharf Restaurant. It wouldn't be summer without dining there.
SWR is ideally located, and when the weather is nice there is no better setting in all of Nantucket than the outdoor deck overlooking the harbor. The chef's complimentart bluefish pate is still a tradition after decades--and I hope it remains so. The watermelon gaspacho soup was outstanding, as was the swordfish and hake. The only downgrade on our recent occasion was the vegetable serving, which was a bit overcooked and mushy. Still, the restaurant is highly recommended.
The lobster and clams were good. I thought our server was a bit inattentive. The room where we ate seemed too hot
Perfect harbor setting on the patio for a fabulous night with my family. The clam bake exceeded our expectations and the galette for dessert was incredible!
Every dinner experience at Straightwharf we've had has been superb
From 15 years ago when we stumbled into the restaurant in beach duds and were welcomed -- to this weekend for our 25th anniversary dinner.
The food service and view overlooking the harbor all contribute to a magical experience
Wonderful food, sophisticated service, great ambience....a totally pleasant experience amid the hub-bub of Nantucket.
I went here with my mom last week and we were sat on the patio outside overlooking the wharf. Perfect table, awesome weather, just perfect all around. I started with the oysters and I had the clam bake as an entree. Everything was delicious and I appreciated we didn't feel rushed. The almond dessert was awesome too. This is definitely one of the best restaurants on Nantucket and the view matches the experience.
Our mediocre experience is belied by this restaurant's obvious popularity. Contributing mostly was our server's cavalier, almost dismissive attitude. Never underestmate the importance of a server's ability to make or unmake the overall dining experience, especially in a restaurant in this higher-price category. In this case, however, she had help, first in the attempt to put us at an undesirable deck table next to a constant noise, which was probably an air conditioner. Having avoided that, we found our new table to have chairs too low for really comfortable eating, something that reflects unforgivable management arrogance (surely they know, but obviously don't care). Finally, the food fell short of expectations, the menu swordfish dish, which we both ordered, placed on a mound of ratatouille, was, we found, swimming in liquid; while some fish do well in soup, we prefer our swordfish to end their swimming careers prior to being served for dinner(the swordfish itself was, however, properly cooked). And the faint-at-heart should avoid reading the wine list, where many bottles are priced at or in excess of a hundred, and even several hundred, dollars. For us, this restaurant is an example of an empress without clothes, whose long lasting popularity, which it hastens to remind you of, results from customers who are far more accepting of deficiencies that might well be dealbreakers on the mainland.
Several local Nantucketers recommended this restaurant, situated prominently on a major tourist path, the Straight Wharf. This made me, although a tourist, skeptical. But all my doubts were blown away. Upon our arrival, the host made a special effort to seat us on the beautiful deck as we requested. The food was out of this world: the cucumber soup was chunky and generously enhanced with lobster; the three of us had swordfish, scallops and the special, hake. Everything was declicious, totally fresh and interesting. We didn't have room for dessert, but they brought us three little rosemary shortbreads with our coffee. Make your reservations early and often!
Maybe it wasn't their night! The restaurant is stuffy, too dark, and the tables are too close for comfort. My chicken dish was acceptable but I was expecting to see an extensive seafood menu in this "wharf" restaurant.
Always a treat to eat at Straight Wharf. One of the most beautiful and subtle settings in America. The chef keep getting better and every dish is a delight.
The music is always the soar note. Please reconsider to a more appropriate play list.
