I have never had a bad meal at Stoney's, or I should say I always have a good meal at Stoney's. This occasion was a birthday celebration for my mother. We had a table of 16 and the one server was able to keep up with a table that size. We all had a good time. Crab cakes are to die for!
Our dinner with out of town and local family on a Friday evening was a success. The food was very good, service was efficient, portions were ample and we enjoyed an authenic waterfront view from our table. The crab dip and crab cakes were both delicious!
Wanted to introduce a good friend to local dining patterns and options. Fantastic seafood restaurant! We enjoyed the ambiance, the service, our meals, and the river view while we continued our conversation -- with no problems hearing each other. My traveling friend arrived exhausted, so I phoned less than 90 minutes prior to our reservation time asking to move it up. No problem! The staff was most accommodating: another plus in a great evening.
We came here to celebrate Valentine's day. The seating was nice, it was next to the fireplace. We had a view of the water. The waitress was spot on, her name was Lauren. The food was very good, the only issue I had was the steak was a little over cooked. The crab cake was perfect
I would recommend dining here if you like a casual but nice dining experience.
Waitress was fantastic and the food was really good
I visit this lovely part of MD often on business and Stoney's is my favorite place to eat. It's off the beaten track offering some really great seafood in a wonderful waterfront setting. Service is friendly and efficient and such a nice break from chain food establishments. The salads are fresh and healthy with a variety of seafood toppings as options to add some protein. Soups are nicely done making this place a wonderful soup and salad light meal option. You can also go all out with their many grilled or fried seafood offerings if that's your preference.
We ventured down to Stoney's at Solomon's for the seafood and for a quiet night pre-Valentine's Day. Since we went on a Monday in February, there were very few diners, which suited us very nicely! We were especially taken with the lovely sculptures of carved waterfowl -- a favorite of ours. The food was very good, but not huge portions. Since we are seniors, we were content but I'm afraid many modern diners with normal appetites may come away hungry for more. We could see lights on the water outside and the lack of highway traffic made for a very relaxing evening. Solomon's in the summer may be a different experience, but we were glad Stoney's was open in the winter.
'Twas good for. For the price I would have expected a more mellow atmosphere. Not quite as loud. But great service good food. Nice music
Food an service were very good. We had the crab/shrimp chowder, crab cakes and fish & chips. All the food was very tasty and served timely and hot. Server was very friendly and attentive.
Fabulous service for our party of twelve! Crab cakes were loaded with crab, calamari was the best we've had in years - light breading, tasty dipping sauce. Steamed clams were fabulous, everyone in our group was impressed with their dinner and the quick, friendly service for a group of our size on a busy Saturday night!
We've been to Stoney's Kingfisher before, we like it very much and that is why we keep returning . Keep ip the good work. 🙂👍
Did a wonderful job handling a party of nine. Good job all around
Good food and friendly service but a bit pricey. Would only do for special occasions.
Food quality very uneven. Salad, fried oysters and pasta Alfredo were great. Fried seafood platter was overly breaded and poorly cooked -- still raw on the inside in the case of the cod and scallops.
The Host did not have a record of our reservation. But he did find us a table.
Our party had the crab cakes, rockfish bites and cream of crab soup. Everything was very tasty. Would differently visit this Stoney's again! OpenTable was very easy to use. Our table was waiting exactly when we had a reservation.
With the live music, it was impossible to have a conversation with our family and friends.
Now they know their Crabcakes!!!! Unbelievable - best I've EVERY had. Went because the reviews raved and they were right. Reasonably priced with absolutely NO fillers. And the sides (fries - fresh cut, fried right !) and FRESH string beans... ridiculously tasty! (Note to chef: the soft shell crabs...just a little less breading would make them fantastic ...as it was, still good). Very nice and pleasant service definitely concerned if you're happy with your food. Not much in the way of décor (it has the feel of a local joint), but nice water views. Worth a go-back.
The food was excellent. We sat outside on the water. Service was good, and the weather was great! :)
Went to Solomons Island for a girls weekend birthday celebration. Had dinner and it was good. The crab dip with preztel was very good. We go the hushpuppies with the honey but but I put the crab dip on the hushpuppies and thought it was delicious. Crab cake was OK but a little on the dry side. Service was good and the server was helpful with getting all our questions answered.
Waterfront setting was beautiful, service great but crab cakes disappointing. They are supposed to be known for their crab cakes but too much filler and not enough lump crab meat. I've had better.
Sat on the deck for dinner with my son and it was so, so lovely being on the water. The food was fine, the service left no impression but the location is prime for a nice summer evening outside!
From the time we sat down until we decided to leave we felt rushed. Rushed to order. Rushed to eat. Rushed to leave. Wasn't even that busy. Get you in and get you out kind of place
Always a good meal, can get crowded which can slow the service, can also be noisy at peak times
I asked for my steak medium rare and it was really dry and overcooked. I could taste the breading over the crab meat in my crab cake. The food was overpriced. Luckily my brother gave us a gift card to use .
Our waitress Alexis was very good however. She was quick and checked on us frequently.
I would have liked more variety on the menu. For example, the menu had a crab imperial for an add on, but I could not get it as a meal.
The hostess was very welcoming and the waitress was very thoughtful. The location is awesome but we have discovered over the many years that we have gone there that all the different portions have got smaller while the prices are going up. It's the up keeping of the overhead that's costing the prices up and portions to get smaller; so we understand from a business point of view.
It's not the restaurant fault it's Solomon Island board of trustees has lost a lot of it main attractions over the many years and not that many people are coming down. It's still beautiful place to visit but they need more stores and add some more activities for families.
Again the food is good but don't got there too hungry because you will have wait until your food is prepared. So if you have kids and you don't have something to keep them focused on then you might was to ask the waitress for some crackles.
Crab legs were mushy water was dripping
from them. The outside floor boards were
Always a pleasure for lunch or dinner anytime we are in Solomons.
Explaining my ratings:
Overall 5 - Stoney's gave us a great time. I love the place, but you have to know what you want out of your dining experience.
Food 3 - I love the crab cake and know it will be consistently crabby, generously sized, and well-prepared: it's a 5 star cake. The menu is in general, though, typical Maryland fare: nothing unusual or adventurous. The vegetable of the day was nicely seasoned, slightly buttery, bright green beans, but my date had fairly generic fries and slaw - nothing wrong with them, but 3 star sides only.
Service 5 - Our waitress was an absolute sweetheart, a big smile, attentive but not intrusive, recommended a great wine (Malbec with crab cakes?!). She was absolutely right about the pairing and, significantly, didn't try to push a high-priced bottle. The great service started even before we arrived, though. My open table reservation included a request for a quiet table with a view, and earlier that afternoon a hostess called me to say there would be a live singer who could get quite loud. She said as it was going to be beautiful weather-wise, we'd be comfortable outside and would get our quiet and view. She was right. The outside table arrangement creates a certain privacy; there's a pleasant hum of others' conversation, but none of it intrudes. It was, for me, 5 star ambiance (see below!).
Ambiance 2 - Frankly, the inside of the restaurant is pretty basic with large tables, a rather booming acoustic, decorated with typically touristy monuments to fish. With live music on occasion, it can be hopelessly loud and therefore not the best place for an intimate date (see above :-) .
Value 4 - it's no cheaper and no more expensive than anywhere else on the island, but you're getting absolutely the best crab cake for your money.
Noise level - see above. As I say, Stoney's can be anywhere between blissfully intimate and frat party loud. Call ahead though, and you may well be able to choose your place on the decibel scale.
This may be the best seafood in Solomons but this is not fine dining. Keep your expectations in check and you will enjoy it. Good cream of crab soup.
Stoney's Kingfishers is a comfortable dining experience -- you can enjoy eating inside with a view of the river or really experience Solomon's Island and eat on the deck. The food selection is delicious Maryland seafood (with some land choices) -- the crab cake is one of the best if not the best you will ever eat. Service was very good and prices are what you expect when eating seafood.
Our third meal here this week, and all have been fresh and well prepared seafood specialties. Great view of the creek out back.
After ten days on and around the Chesapeake, this is one of the two most enjoyable restaurants we've tried. The seafood is fresh and well prepared and the regional specialties are exemplary.
The colorful wood carvings of regional birds throughout the restaurant add a distinctive touch to the waterside views out back.
Don't miss this one!
awesome soft shell crab! we had a large group from a conference and the staff handled them deftly. very happy with the whole experience
Came down from VA for my sister's graduation from St. Marys College. Had a late lunch/early dinner here at Stoney's. Food was awesome! Giving the size of the party we had nice spread of appetizers. Rockfish bites were great along with the fried oysters. Crab cake sandwiches are huge! Also had a seafood platter. Food tasted fresh and delicious. Love the location along the boardwalk. Definitely will be back in the future!
I have to say that I was very disappointed in my dining experience at your restaurant. I have dined at both the Broomes Island and Prince Frederick restaurants and found the food at those places to be excellent. I ordered the hot crab dip at your restaurant and it was so bad that i sent it back to the kitchen. My dining companions ordered the lobster and steak and the lobster was overcooked and tough. Overall, our dining experience was not up to the standards of your other restaurants. I will not return to your restaurant nor will I recommend it to others.
Casual place on waterfront with good seafood dishes. Cream of crab soup very good. Fish tacos were very filling; 2 large cod tacos with beans, corn and coleslaw. Enjoyable place to visit and eat lunch.
Apparently I made a mistake with the total number of people on my reservation. After a few minutes of confusion and some (understandable) frustration from the staff (things were pretty busy), they made it work. This was the first time I have been in the upstairs dining room. The view is excellent, though the room itself is very live - lots of sound from not a whole lot of people, most likely due to all of the windows. Had a great time, I just need to be more careful with my fumble fingers when making reservations.
We enjoyed the casual atmosphere here, and the fairly wide spacing between tables helped keep the noise level down. The service was very good, with helpful and well-informed staff. We can only comment on the crab cakes, not the other seafood, because that's what we both had. They were very good, almost all crab, with just enough other ingredients to hold them together. We'll be back some day.
