Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill - Louisville Ratings and Reviews
Went to Stoney River trying to find a good steak in the east end of Louisville. The steaks were good, but priced for perfection. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night and they were running behind. We didn't get seated for our 8:45pm reservation until just after 9:00pm. Once seated it took a long time to get the food (about an hour). Our party was fun and we did have drinks and an appetizer, but other tables seated near us who arrived earlier than we did were quite upset at the service by the time they left. The manager personally checked on our table, informed us the kitchen was running behind, and asked if she could get us anything while we waited. We told her all was ok, but some other tables nearby weren't so kind. All in all the food was good, but everything was priced for no problems. We left feeling the food and atmosphere was solid, service was subpar and we were charged at a level that should have been flawless from start to finish.
This has become our favorite restaurant and we don't mind driving an hour to get there. The coffee-cured filet and carrot cake are easily worth it. To be honest, everything I've tried has been exceptional, except perhaps the crab cakes. Being from the Maryland area, they don't quite live up to my standards but most Southerners would like them. Service has always been the best as well.
Stoney River is ALWAYS crowded for a reason. The food is consistently good, they have a fairly extensive (by the glass) wine list, as well as speciality cocktails. There desserts are also top notch, if you have room after your meal. I’m especially partial to the carrot cake. It’s devine.
One of my favorite chains..
Upon entering the first thing I noticed was how noisy it was. Very hard to hold a quiet conversation. However, that was overshadowed by the service and the food. Our server (s) were attentive, friendly and well versed on the menu. The good was exceptional. The deviled eggs for an appetizer were interesting with sugared cured bacon and a little bit of cayenne pepper, very good. The wedge salad was wonderful with bleu cheese dressing g and Roma tomatoes. I don’t think I have ever had a “perfect” baked potato before tonight but they did this one right! And finally, the ribeye steak. Cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful. One of the best steaks I can remember having! Except for the noise level, this is definitely a restaurant I would highly recommend to all my friends
We go to Stoney River about 3 times per year. Years ago we tried it once or twice and weren't impressed but about 3 years ago but we gave it a second chance and it hasn't disappointed since. On the recent visit, everything was very good. They occasionally have lapses in service but this time our server was very attentive, gave useful suggestions, packaged leftovers quickly and processed our check expediently. Further, she worked with us to modify options for one of our party who prefers to keep gluten-free. I always have the cowboy-cut ribeye, my wife the filet and both were great. For appetizers, I heartily recommend the deviled eggs and steak rolls. Pricing-wise, Stoney River fits between the chains (such as LongHorn, which we frequent more often) and the high-end steakhouses, which get just an occasional visit. It's a good fit and high on our list.
Very good food and service I have been there five times so far and love it every time they always cook your steak to exactly how you order it through and through excellent taste they give you good portions for the price I would recommend the coffee cured steak or New York strip and the lobster tail
As great as the food is here, I was frustrated that with 2 weeks' notice through Open Table, including a note that I wanted a specific table, plus a visit the night before in person, I did not get the booth I requested for this special birthday dinner. We even arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time, as was recommended. That is just not right. Given the level of service and the menu, the customer satisfaction element is missing. And it was very cold sitting near the front doors.
The server was outstanding. The food was excellent. It was a little too noisy for us to have a conversation though. One disappointment was the wait. We made reservations for 7:00 pm and had to wait about 15 minutes, but other than that , we would most definitely recommend this restaurant to friends.
My wife and I have lived in the area now for 27 years. This was THE BEST dining/food experience of them all. (And we eat out a lot!) Our server, Allen, was totally attentive, but not "in your face." Very refreshing. The food was, well, out of this world. Never quite tasted anything quite like the coffee-cured filet, but I'll be going back again for it. A little pricey, for us, but definitely worth the special occasion visit. Kudos to the chefs and management.
We traveled to Louisville on our way to Florida. Had checked out the reviews, wasn’t overwhelmed but decided to try Stoney River anyway. Had to call from the road because we were running late. Hostess was very accommodating and moved our reservation for 2 to 7:00pm from 6:00pm on a Saturday! Place was packed and considerable wait list. We were seated immediately.
Wife had petite filet with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. I had one of the nightly specials, grilled grouper with jasmine rice and spinach. Both were excellent. If I ever go through Louisville again I will definitely make a point of stopping at STONEY RIVER STEAKHOUSE.
As frequent diners who are known at this restaurant, we were quite disappointed to be seated both next to the restrooms and immediately ahead of a station to reset table service. We've had far better attention from management with the money we spend. Scott and front of house staff always took care of us, and we are easy customers. He left in August; we hope the changes in house mgt improve. We are regulars who look forward to remaining regulars!
Been here countless times, but only one other time in 2017. Each time seems less good than the one before. Rolls were cold and hard, usually they're like fresh, warm donuts. Butter was rock hard. Prime rib didn't seem as high quality as before, slightly overcooked. Still a nice wine selection. I wonder if the management has changed? Fewer diners, too.
First time in and it was quite busy for a Wednesday evening at 7:30. Server was excellent and helpful but was a little disingenuous when taking our order. Seemed to be trying to upsell an already pricey meal. I had the 14 oz ribeye and my girlfriend had the filet. Ribeye was tough and not very marbled as advertised. Sides were smashed sweet potato casserole for me and brussell sprouts for her. Sides were tasty. We had tea and soda, no alcohol, no dessert and started with the steak rolls. A crisp clean $100 bill later we were on our way home. I've had better meals for far less. We didn't leave angry just not wowed! Probably will not go back at that price.
