Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill - Deer Park Ratings and Reviews
Service was fantastic as was the appetizer, salad, steaks and wine. Their bread was the only disappointment as they tried to go with a southern style bread ball, but I'd much prefer a typical warm French, pumpernickel or light rye that you get from other expensive steak houses.
We have been eating at Stoney River for many years. The restaurant used to be privately owned; however, it is now owned by J. Alexander’s Holdings. Ever since the ownership changed the quality of the food and service has diminished. Last Saturday I ordered a beef filet and my wife ordered a blackened swordfish steak. My filet was very tasty, but my wife's swordfish was a disaster. First off, the so called swordfish steak was only 1/4" thick. That is not what I consider to be a steak. I have never experienced swordfish cut that thin in my life. Next, there was so much blackening seasoning on the fish that it was impossible to taste the fish. The next tie we go there we will both stick to the beef filets.
I haven't been to Stoney River in awhile but it hasn't changed and the food was great. Can't get enough of their little dinner roll served with honey butter. The quality of my steak was worth the price. I've been to a few other similarly priced steak places and the quality of the steak wasn't worth the price. When you pay up toward $30, you expect a tender, well-aged steak.
Stoney River never disappoints! Great food- personal favorite is the coffee crusted filet. The waiters and waitresses are always very friendly and accommodating! We celebrate all of our big events here! I’ve been coming here for years with my family as well. Never had a bad experience!
Great food and service; especially loved the fireplace on a cold January day. Would highly recommend!
The ONLY issue -- you have this beautiful, dimly lit area with a fireplace, and then someone turns up the music -- not live, but piped in -- it was incredibly loud and out of place with the ambience of the dining area. Music is fine, but please, turn it down!!
Otherwise the food was outstanding.
The filet is absolutely amazing! Flavorful & tender. The ambiance is perfect. Fireplace, dim lights, lit mindful paintings and jazz music makes for a great romantic dinner. I’ve also enjoyed a work lunch on he main floor. Tops most expensive steakhouses I’ve eaten at. Highly recommended.
The lobster bisque was good, my husband ordered the crab cakes. Probably the best crab cake we ever have had. Big enough to share. I took the opportunity to put some of the crab cake in the soup which took the soup from Good to Amazing.
The Sea Bass was finished perfect. The key lime pie was excellent as well. Besides sitting under what felt like an opening in the roof with a cold breeze blowing on me throughout the dinner the experience was great.
I mentioned it was our anniversary... and it was never dealt with! Blown off completely! Our server was nice, but very obviously brand new.. didn’t really know anything about the wines or menu.. we had to ask for bread, we had to ask for water! Very upset that our Anniversary was not acknowledged:(
My first server I had to ask to put a drink order in and she only have me (2) tiny rolls. I then asked for my regular server who is always outstanding! The food was wonderful!!!!! There was a strong gas smell from the fireplace that was annoying and unusual.
We had a pretty good waiter. Only complaint was we were promised water right away, and waited a bit for that (came after cocktails). We had a six month old baby with, and everyone was so nice and great to assist with seating of him etc. We all loved our food, even my husband loved the meatloaf but it didn't love him back in the middle of the night. We had a nice corner booth, which kept it quiet. Stoney River is still our favorite restaurant in our area (Deer Park Il).
